You and I have discussed the need to upgrade Celtic Park for a long time. It is a 20th century stadium that is showing its age through the second quarter of the 21st. I am unfamiliar with the South Stand, but I hear that is most in need of renovation, which is hard to believe, as I am familiar with the condition and facilitates in the North Stand.
I have raised the question many times over the years with the club, with incredible budget estimates thrown back as the determining issue. Post-Brexit and with geo-political issues going on, the cost of construction skills and materials have risen to new heights.
Glasgow is not London, which is its own special category of crazy when it comes to construction costs, but Crystal Palace redevelopment of their main stand caught my eye. Work is underway to increase capacity from 26,000 to 34,000. The initial budget when the project was conceived in 2017 sat at £76m (not much above what I heard redeveloping the Main Stand at Celtic Park would cost). Current cost estimate is £200m.
For Palace, it is not really about the extra 8,000 seats, those seats will have a higher average price, as they will bring significant new hospitality facilities. £125m of the funding requirement comes from Goldman Sacks. The rate on this was not disclosed, but Goldman replaced Palace previous lender, who charged 11% (costing £9.2m interest, and that was before construction).
We look back on the 1990s as a time of trauma: one league title, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup. £40m was also spent that decade on re-building Celtic Park. That was an astronomical figure for the club back then, but the new ground brought additional income streams online from season 1995-96. When the stadium was finished in 1998, Celtic were in an unrecognisable income position.
I don’t think we can put off stadium upgrades forever. Fans of the future will expect (and will pay for) better facilities. But I’m not sure a Crystal Palace-type project is a viable risk.
CQN Golf Day 2026
This year’s CQN Golf Day will be at Dunblane Golf Course on Friday 10 July. Our guest speaker is celebrated film and TV actor David Hayman. David broke through when he starred as Jimmy Boyle in a Sense of Freedom (1981), and went on to appear in major cinema successes such as The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008). More importantly, he founded the charity Spirit Aid, which works with children whose lives have been devastated by war, genocide, or poverty. I will be speaking as well.
It is a great day, if you would like to attend, email Taggsybhoy: cqngolf@gmail.com . See you there.

Good morning all from rainy Govanhill.
Seems the ‘delay’ is Maloney and Fotheringham being offered derisory contracts, what a surprise…….
Good morning CQN
Another fine day to be a Celt.
Watched highlights of 3-1 game against blue bogeyman last night.
Daizen has so much to do to turn this situation into a goal.
This is the best goal scored in the SPFL season just finished by a street … regardless of what other groups with other interests say.

The nightmare scenario;
The Maloney and Fozzy contract talks are protracted , no resolution so they walk .
Unable to have the assistants he needs ,Martin walks .
Keane is hurriedly appointed with not enough time to prepare for CL qualifier .
Couldn’t happen .No , definitely couldn’t happen . No ,no , our board would never let that happen . Nope , no siree .
Anyone see any change in how Desmond and Celtic plc run the football club?
If the maloney fozzie story’s are true……I mean how much could we possibly be talking here in the grand scheme of things
Buttons absolute Buttons
I think we were better off with Lawwell……and by fk that’s saying something!!!…..
The financing of a new stand ….is everybody taking the pss….we can’t put the easiest of deals together!!!!
“ It was the best of times it was the worst of times “
This board needs chased
I see the Chicken Licken tendency is out in force today.
Sakes…

Hail Hail
Bada @ 08:32am
See what you’ve started with your “seems” quote Bada
😜
TBB @ 09:36am – Lol
By 5pm tonight the story will have developed massively …
… with DD having eaten the livers of Shaun and Fozzy with some fava beans and a nice Chianti
Staff should know it’s an honour to work for the famous Glasgow Celtic and should just accept what they’re offered.
squirrelstoryCSC
Well the story seems to have some merit with McGowan chipping in
Couldn’t really make this up
Sorry ..we are a very poorly run football club
If this is anything to go by ….we better have really looooonng lists of players because it’ll be 5th and 6th choices at least……yet some seem to think it’s fine and dandy 🙈
As TBB @4:37 pointed out…….
Remuneration Committee: Brian Wilson (interim) Vacancy, Vacancy
So who else is involved in the remuneration of staff?
who decided to frame this scenario as “derisory” ?
what does it mean in this context ?
millionaire ex professional footballers recently successful are offered what ?
less than they earned before?
just the minimim wage ?
having to downsize from bothwell to kilmalcolm ?
what does it actually mean ?
Chairbhoy
Nothing like a list
Between yours and Dexter.T. Bampot’s ‘ the board ‘ won’t know whether to laugh or greet. How can we spend or not spend anywhere near the amount of money coming in that will mend the fractured support and satisfy the notion that we are ‘a well run club’ and not just a well run PLC complete with its welded on world class information vacuum.🤣
We couldn’t spend fast enough on deadline day last summer and even panic bought ‘ doublers ‘ one struggling, one invisible. A large volume of Celtic supporters that use the internet share a common theme, lots don’t believe the club’s overall size and financial strength is being matched by its sporting ambition.
Always one or two on CQN ‘batting for the board’ even although they drown in a cause célèbre of Celtic matters. The new phenomenon of cash stashing? – £100M could easily underpin the upgrade of the South Stand. ( Yesterday’s Quicknews) The board like Paul67 prefer to ‘kick it down the road’ mibbees towards the unbuilt Celtic Hotel and Museum with planning permission granted years ago.
C’est La Vie CSC
Hail Hail
DR tries to stir the sh*t about our managerial appointments, and of course the pile-on begins, assuming the SMSM is telling the truth. Short memories, but this blog was started so that Celtic fans could discern this sorty of stuff for what it is.
There could be a million reasons for contractual delay, as anyone who has negotiated contracts can tell you, but no, let’s go with a trouble-making explanation from some uninformed hack working for a paper that hates us.

What Bada B8ng sa8d earlier.
Hopefully it’s not true, but n9ne of us would be surprised.
Ops , sorry about that. It was about MON’s backroom staff.
Apologies again. More haste less speed especially on pesky fone.
News broke on Kerrydale Street two days ago.
