Stand up for the Champions

I know when you begin to dominate a championship that when another team eventually lift the trophy it can seem like an intolerable failure; compare our distress in 2009 to our resolve to do better after the final home game in 1996.  Time adds perspective to our triumphs.  As does not being there and seeing photos of the presentation hours after the event.

These are special times, enjoy them.

Many thanks to the Columba Club in Blantyre for Friday night’s Question and Answer event, and to the irrepressible Phil Agnew, who organised the event.  I was delighted to share a stage with Paul McConville and Phil Mac Giolla Bhain.  Great to see so many CQN’ers there too, my only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to catch up with everyone. With supporters like those in Blantyre on Friday night, we’re in good hands.

Remember to buy Heart of a Lion, Willie Wallace’s magnificent autobiography, available below.

  1. Bobby Murdoch…

Thanks for great company and a cracking day out yesterday.

I have no idea how or when we parted ways and woke up in the “naughty” bed this morning but I do know I had fun.

Paying for it today with a splitting headache that began somewhere around the back of my ankles. I’ve spent the morning hiding from everyone at work as I’m convinced my head is about to start revolving 360degrees at any moment.

Let’s do it again soon :)

Went on the phone to renew my ST on friday at 1600 hrs to be told I was 6th in the queue. Remember these calls are up to 10p a minute. Was on for about 25 mins to be told my position in the queue was 6th. Wtf is that aboot. Decided to leave it till tomorrow morning or will probably be cheaper driving up to the stadium for renewal. Incidently, the price for old codgers is £299. Great value unless you add on the phone bill. :))

  4. Sounds like a great day kikinthenakas. I had a good day yesterday at my Grand-daughters First Communion but missed all the craic at Celtic Park. Sat down this morning and watched recording and soaked it all up. Great days to be a Tim. Just seen QPR gone 1 up at Newcastle, ever since Ashley hitched his wagon to the Deid Club, I’ve been praying that they get their come-uppance.

Fergie, never one to dodge controversy, leaves Wayne Rooney out of his last Old Trafford squad.

And Michael Owen spends his last career home game as an unused sub. He achieved a lot in his career – just think how many he would have scored had he stayed fit.

I got rid of mine the hard way. Dig down to expose the roots a cut through them with a dirty big axe. Imagine you are chopping the heid off your favourite Sevco personality or pundit, it makes the job quicker and less painful.

You’ll then be left with a big hole in the ground.I turned mine into a pond!

You guys talking about the Paisley pubs would get a

laugh if you went into Kennedy’s just down a bit on the other side from the Afton Bar in Causeyside Street.

For years it was the most well known hun pub in the town with the picture of old Lizzie on the wall, but nowadays the David Hay bus leaves from it.

I never thought I would be able to walk into the place with a Celtic scarf on and get a pint of Guinness with the shamrock on top.

    Changed days indeed

You can hire the smaller ones – but serious kit that will make light work of it come attached to a contractor (not cheap )

If your not urban you can burn them out – that’s what we have been doing, diesel and sugar mix to get it going !

Ernie, I believe that’s correct, but it had a few name changes over the years, and has finally reverted back to Kennedy’s.

I tended to avoid it up until recently, but its OK in the bar and a nice pint

I think you’ve nailed it. They crave acceptance. Then they look for opportunities to demonstrate to their new masters how they have turned from their “stupid, ignorant” ways or beliefs. There are any number of such people at the BBC in sport and news, never mind the rest of it.

The trouble is they will never be accepted as they would like, and therefore require themselves to go a little further each time to justify their change and to prove that they really are enlightened. So, they reinterpret their past experiences, start to deny what is as plain as the nose on their face or start hearing things that were never said (sung).
