Stand up for the Champions

I know when you begin to dominate a championship that when another team eventually lift the trophy it can seem like an intolerable failure; compare our distress in 2009 to our resolve to do better after the final home game in 1996.  Time adds perspective to our triumphs.  As does not being there and seeing photos of the presentation hours after the event.

These are special times, enjoy them.

Many thanks to the Columba Club in Blantyre for Friday night’s Question and Answer event, and to the irrepressible Phil Agnew, who organised the event.  I was delighted to share a stage with Paul McConville and Phil Mac Giolla Bhain.  Great to see so many CQN’ers there too, my only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to catch up with everyone. With supporters like those in Blantyre on Friday night, we’re in good hands.

Remember to buy Heart of a Lion, Willie Wallace’s magnificent autobiography, available below.

  4. Summa of Sammi re your cough, learnt this in Thailand at a herb and spice stall, here it’s called cha em = licorice root,as kids we ate it as a cheap sweet alternative and called it Spanish wood. Best about fag width, just suck the end, cut off and start again as required. No harmful effects, cleared a 5 year cough for me. Really helped before going to sleep and on rising the next morning.

I have read on CQN (I think) Yorkshire miners used it. Hope it helps.

  7. Manchester City are poised to sack manager Roberto Mancini and replace him with Malaga’s Manuel Pellegrini.

  8. “Everton fans respond to West Ham chants of ‘Where’s your Moysie gone?’ with ‘We want Sam Allardyce, we want Sam Allardyce’.”

Irony surely? They couldn’t really want Sam, could they?

  9. Allardyce, over rated manager and complete arse of a man.

As for the info on the tree stump, I would rather just pay someone to get rid of it. It’s bloody huge.

What do they put in the lager up in Blantyre? My head was so numb on Saturday morning I thought I had turned into a Zombie during the night.

Still, I soon sobered up after sitting at Celtic Park for 20 minutes in the ole Artic conditions for our title party.

A great weekend all round and brilliant to meet a few of the Bhoys in the Columba Club – P67, BT, OT and Jobo among others … including KJ without knowing it.

  11. On the day of Alex Ferguson’s last home game, here’s a wee tale from his early years.

In October 1977 I was in the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool with some friends. It was the wee small hours and we were celebrating Scotland’s victory against Wales earlier that night. Thanks to the hand of Jordan, we were on our way to Argentina ’78.

Despite being tipsy, I noticed Alex Ferguson sitting alone at another table. I invited him to join our table of Tims, which he did. Now one of our band, John Murphy from Moodiesburn, was a very good player. John played for Dulwich Hamlet in what is now the Conference League.

When I told Alex this he quickly named a handful of Dulwich players and their strengths and weaknesses. John confirmed the accuracy of Alex’s analysis.

I asked Alex how he knew this. “That’s my job, son” he said.

This guy will go far, I can remember thinking.

At that time, he was managing St. Mirren.

I wonder if our current SPL managers have such a broad knowledge of the lower depths of English football.

To get rid of a tree stump?

    try this perhaps:

I found it on the net.

    Potassium Nitrate.

You can buy it at most garden centres, Depending on the size of the stump, drill one 1/2 hole in the centre and another intersecting hole at at 45 degree angle. Fill with potassium nitrate and soak with water. If you want to speed up the process soak with kerosene instead. Wait a day crumble charcoal on top and light it. It will do a slow burn until gone. BTW, if you don’t let it soak in and just light it, then you will find out how they make Roman candles! I have burned out 3 stumps this year that way, from 18 inches to 3 inches in diameter..

    Good Luck!:)

Walker knows exactly what he’s doing,he,d be out of a job if he stood up for us,so he says exactly what his bosses want to hear,if you ever listen to him after we get a pen(I know it’s a rare thing) our pens are always dodgy or soft while the deceased clubs pens are always stonewallers,he just makes me puke, perhaps we should invite him to do the draw at half time and we can let him know exactly what we think of him,why do espn always make sure they have anti celtic people in the studio for our matches especially that git Mccann

  19. steinreignedsupreme,

Seriously? Are you in London? Give John all my best wishes. If it is him, could you tell him he can get my number from our Polish friend? Thanks.

  20. Afternoon bhoys from a very warm hun free mountain valley.

Have been trying to educate a few english football supporters on another blog, jeez they are thick.

One came away with he fears for the spl without the huns…..I replied……

The media have been spinning this line, the other clubs will manage fine.

All it takes is an extra 100 season book holders to compensate for them not being there.

Celtic are a very well run club. we don’t rely on euro money.

Rangers are not a well run club. they do rely on euro money, hence there is a major problem with a level playing field, everything is tilted in their favour, down to the referees.

That is not paranoia, it has been proven the past season.

They were liquidated last year, and did not meet the criteria for a licence, yet they got one, more deserving teams were above them.

The SFA have broken rule after rule to accomadate them, yet they will go bust again, all because of their suppremacist attitude, win at all costs.

Sir David Murray spent nigh on half a billion pounds of the bank of scotlands money in the persuit of the big cup, the CL as it is today, they don’t do coming second, especially to a perceived Irish Catholic team.

They are built on hate, they had a sectarian policy for over 100 years, they only changed when uefa told them to, otherwise they still wouldn’t sign a Catholic today.

They deserve to die a death, but alas, due to the people in power, right through from the judiciary, the police, the politicos, the sfa, the cabal will see them survive.

It’s strange that no scottish jurno will tell the truth about them, they are fear of their lives, it will take the likes of Alex Thompson to expose them, which early next week I understand he has a story to break.

As you will gather I have no love for them either, I want them and their sectarian hate gone from the land.

Just ask the good people of wherever they go if they want them back again.

When they sacked Manchester in 2008, their CEO even tried to blame Chelsea fans, anything but blame themselfs, it was a big boy that done it and ran away.

Sorry for the rant…but it’s made me feel better.

…………..he came back with …..now I know you are paranoid……

    I give up >}

Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Kano 1000 :

I had a tree stump in my garden, the size of the centre circle in the huns floating pitch, that for more than four years I tried to get rid off. The stump grinders wanted $2,000 dollars to remove it, I said “Yeah”.

For four years I smacked that stump and wore out four good axes and two chain saws. Every weekend I had blisters and blood weeping hands.

It got personal. But it also got boring.

Then I had a party for my kid and I had fifteen little kids collecting firewood and we had ourselves a fire. What stump?

I miss that stump some days. I have a rowing machine but I don’t have a punch bag and I don’t have bleeding hands anymore either.
