Standard Watt

545

Two years ago, Tony Watt was putting a light under our fire. The debut goals at Motherwell, the point rescued at Dingwall, then came THAT goal, his future looked secure, but it’s been downhill since.

Tony has the athletic abilities to be a firm favourite, but Neil Lennon shipped him out a year ago, amid comments about the player sorting himself out. His manager at loan club Lierse was soon singing the same song. Now the player is in Liege as Celtic have accepted a bid from Standard for a player, who under different circumstances, would be considered a prodigy.

It is no surprise Ronny Deila has decided to cut him loose; what little we know about our new manager suggests he doesn’t offer too many last chances. For Tony, this is likely to be the last chance to build a memorable career, if he slips up at Standard, next stop will be the likes of Kilmarnock.

The truth about what exactly? I have never seen any poster refer to their support for Hamas, so what is your point in posting the video?

Ole Tony Watt has left the building, but still causing mayhem as his departure sees Neganon, SydneyTim and MadMitch all making an appearance on the same page!

If you can’t see my point then I’m afraid I can’t help you.

Calling for boycotts, accusations of genocide etc etc but limited or no criticism whatsoever of Hamas speaks volumes.

Sometimes it’s what people don’t say rather what they do say that tells the story!

So are we to believe that Hammas have outsmarted the state of Israel and the IDF?

Provoked them in to retaliation and in the process killing children?

Makes the Israelis look like a bunch of schmuks though, doesn’t it?

Oh FFS.Why dont you give it a rest?.

I could easily post the fact that Hamas killed 150 children, digging tunnels into Israel.Would broken, crushed bodies of kids look any worse to you?.

Hamas just love people like you.Only see one side.Give them the propaganda victory they want. The problem is,while you are on your crusade,Hamas, buoyed by the fact their tactics are working, will carry on using Palestinians as cannon fodder, human shields, their hospitals, schools, apartment blocks as firing ranges for their missiles, prompting more reprisals from Israel.

You and people like you are not helping by running around with blinkers on.

You are going to solve the problem by showing some video,a gruesome video. How will that help?.Some idiotic talk on here of boycotting if we draw an Israeli team.

Fekin getting ridiculous.I said I would not comment on this matter again, but sometimes,it really gets to me.

    —————-

Someone posted a piece last night about Hamas using children to build tunnels. Firstly, I have not and will never claim that Hamas are the good guys. If they are forcing children to build tunnels then that is outrageous, but the piece that was posted suggested many were voluntary. Since the average age in Gaza is 17, it may be hard to get an over 18 workforce of any description. Also you need to consider why they are building tunnels in the 1st place.

As for using Palestinians as human shields, you may want to include some reputable sources for that claim. Even If they are using Palestinians as human shields, does that give Israel the right to just massacre these human shields anyway? Here’s proof of Israeli soldiers using an 11 year old Palestinian child as a human shield.

    http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/idf-soldiers-convicted-of-using-11-year-old-as-human-shield-in-gaza-1.316867

As for the missiles, where would you suggest they store these effectively futile missiles? Maybe they should build a missile storage centre, with a missile launching site on one side and the Hamas HQ on the other. I’m sure that would last long. I don’t agree with firing missiles into Israel, I guess they feel it’s the only act of defiance they have in response to the massacre of children, 7 year blockade, and an illegal occupation. BTW you should check out where the IDF HQ is.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/24/gaza-hamas-fighters-military-bases-guerrilla-war-civilians-israel-idf

That video isn’t going to solve anything. But since I’m pretty much helpless, apart from my donations to save the children, this is the only thing I think I can do. If it moves one person to boycott or donate then I consider it time well spent. Everything in that video is well sourced. You can ignore it or refute it but I intend to repost it for some time yet.

You like videos? Here’s one for you to watch and for anyone else who may be interested in the truth.

    ————

Yeah I’ve saw that before. For those that didn’t watch it, it’s about Mosab Hassan Yousef, son of a Hamas founder, who worked as an Israeli spy for 10 years, wrote a book, and now lives a comfortable live in California.

I’m not disputing his claims. Other people might, but I look for trusted sources. Regardless, ff you could point out where I’ve praised the idealogical missions of Hamas then I could see how it would be relevant.

For comparison you could read Miko Peled’s book, son of a famous Israeli general, book is called The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine. Since I like videos, I watched his video instead

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9_OcCXvT6Y

Interesting family given his sister is Nurit Peled Elhanan, whose child was blown up by a Palestinian suicide bomber. Here’s what she had to say:

In September 1997, Peled-Elhanan’s 13-year-old daughter, Smadar, was killed by a Palestinian suicide bomber. Following the death of her daughter, Peled-Elhanan commented,

“My little girl was murdered because she was an Israeli by a young man who was humiliated, oppressed and desperate to the point of suicide and murder and inhumanity, just because he was a Palestinian.

“There is no basic moral difference between the soldier at the checkpoint who prevents a woman who is having a baby from going through, causing her to lose the baby, and the man who killed my daughter. And just as my daughter was a victim [of the Israeli occupation], so was he.”

  9. Sad to see Tony go. I am obviously not privy to what has went on behind closed doors here. There was no guarantee if he was ever going to be good enough for us.

Still, I am not exactly please with our striking options. I have never thought Griffiths and Stokes were good enough and Pukki & Balde have so far failed to impress.

The thing is most of the posters on here are actually quite intelligent and therefore we are aware of the actual politics being played by various posters.

Out of the 1.8m population of Gaza only about 15 thousand are members of Hamas so it’s not a coincidence that when we call for boycotts etc it’s on behalf of the 1.8 million innocent civilians not the 15 thousand Hamas supporters.

BTW you are right it’s what some people don’t say that tells the whole story.

1.Do you think Palestinians have been/are being treated fairly by the Israelis?

2.Do you recognise that Israel has stolen and occupied their land?

3.Do you accept that Israel has broken or ignored more UN Resolutions than any other country?

4.Do you condemn, without any whataboutery around Hamas or any other group, that Israel is guilty of the wholesale murder of innocent children?

If you were a Palestinian living in Gaza, what would you do?

    Genuine questions btw

I think we all must remember Celtic are a big step up for Rony and he is effectively on trial and that in my opinion should allow the guy some slack as he is bound to make a few mistakes but just as long as he makes more good calls than bad ones he will do just fine.Tony Watt has never managed to hold down a first team position at Parkhead so 1.2 million was good business if it transpires that he moves on.I think Wednesday nights match will be the biggest in Ronys managerial career to date.H.H.

    Ellboy..,

I’m with Eddie, I can’t see why the atrocities of the deaths of Palestinian children forced to work in tunnels was not important enough to be publicised with the same exposure in 2012 and before than it is now during the whataboutery phase of the propaganda war, I find it disgusting that anyone would use such a strategy, where were you and your outrage when it was actually going on ?

The best you can muster is to offer it as a boon to justify the current murder of children, that is sickening.

The whole thing is an absolute mess and contrary to your insistence of allegiance to Hamas, not one single person on this site has tried to justify Hamas using innocents as shields it is abhorred with the same weight as the condemnation of the Israeli army slaughtering those innocents.

There are no winners in this except for those who try to justify any of it.

  14. I haven’t posted in a long, long time, but reading the pash about PL and the board selling TW is doing my nut..!!

More than anything, i wanted TW to be the next “big thing”, but to read this BullS*** that our new manager is a “patsy” is unbelievable.

If you watch Celtic TV (as i’m resigned to these days), they had the players summing up their team mates. It seemed that the general opinion of TW amoungst his team mates was “thick as…”

I really wanted him to get a chance “through the middle” but for various reasons it didn’t come to pass.

Why are the board and PL seemingly to blame for absolutely EVERYTHING??

I really can’t be arsed with this anymore. I’ll go back to lurking and contributing to the team i “support” via my Celtic TV subscription….

I avoided this debate yesterday and personally found it depressing reading.

Hamas are wrong in their continual attempt at firing rockets into Israel but attempting is pretty much all they’re doing.

Millions of pounds of American Dollars have equipped the Israelis with a shield that makes them practically impenetrable from Hamas or anyone else.

25% of the population of Gaza are below the age of 17. The maths is simple, if you fire into Gaza you have a 1 in 4 chance of hitting or killing a child.

What Israel is doing is barbaric and evil yet I haven’t seen anywhere your condemnation of their actions.

You refer to anti semitism on CQN. I’ve yet to see one shred of evidence to support your assertion.

Opposition to Zionism is not racist or sectarian.

I draw your attention to my initial point. Hamas are wrong.

Where is your condemnation of Israel and their current murderous tactics? And they are murderous, the death toll doesn’t lie.

  16. BSR

Happy rebuilding is continuing, we’ll judge Ronny Deila and Celtic, after they’ve attempted to repair last seasons wastefulness, in attacking buys, and the squad is trimmed for the new manager, to bring in his own players.

No we should sack him now… and sack whoever we get to replace him because he’s rubbish as well…

No that IS a lie. I’m glad you were called oot.

I accept that you are more pro Israel. I don’t dispute your right to voice your opinion.

Many on here simply disagree with you. That is their right.

If someone posts pictures which show the carnage Israel’s bombardment is causing, surely you cannot object. Maybe you are ashamed of what Israel is doing. I would be if I were you.

When asking us to consider what Hamas are doing, feel free to post pictures of the damage their rockets are inflicting on Israeli cities. Whataboutery will not settle this problem.

Re Tony Watt. If he is good enough he could play well anywhere up front and should be glad of the chance to prove it.

I liked the look of the guy but I was not impressed by his decision making in his last game. Got it consistently wrong and certainly not as effective as Griffiths, Stokes or Pukka whom I had doubts about but see signs of improvement.

I’ve seen guys like Bobby Murdoch and Big Yogi make their debuts and think that guy will be some player.

I even thought Charlie Mulgrew would do Celtic a turn when he was at Aberdeen. I saw nothing in TW to make me think any hassle would be worth the perseverance.

  27. I thought this was a Celtic related site, where todays subject was the tranfer of Tony Watt. Not for the certain few to discuss the rights and wrongs of the Israelies and Hamas. I for one do not come on this site to be enlightened on the subject. I come on for news of what is happening at Celtic and other fans view on that.

  28. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Bada Bing. I was unaware of his contract situation and Thomsons comments so maybe we would have a chance of getting him if we are genuinely interested. H.H.

  29. Further very depressing news from Gaza, I have made my views very clear. I do not support Hamas or any Islamic Fundamentalist group, I do support the Palestinian people in their struggle to survive and in their struggle to have a land of their own, where they can live and prosper without outside interference. In my opinion Israel is guilty of heinous war crimes and because they have the US in particular by the short and curlies, they are largely getting away with it. I know this is a football blog but we are human beings, we have an obligation to speak out, I urge everyone appalled by the slaughter of children, to (a) Boycott Israeli goods and (b) Use the Social Media to spread the message. The MSM are effectively muzzled, but they can’t muzzle Social Media. It will take a bit of time but we can really help stop this senseless violence.
