Two years ago, Tony Watt was putting a light under our fire. The debut goals at Motherwell, the point rescued at Dingwall, then came THAT goal, his future looked secure, but it’s been downhill since.
Tony has the athletic abilities to be a firm favourite, but Neil Lennon shipped him out a year ago, amid comments about the player sorting himself out. His manager at loan club Lierse was soon singing the same song. Now the player is in Liege as Celtic have accepted a bid from Standard for a player, who under different circumstances, would be considered a prodigy.
It is no surprise Ronny Deila has decided to cut him loose; what little we know about our new manager suggests he doesn’t offer too many last chances. For Tony, this is likely to be the last chance to build a memorable career, if he slips up at Standard, next stop will be the likes of Kilmarnock.

I think there are about half a dozen ‘rubber nuts’ on here.
Largely it’s populated by genuine Tims just with differing opinions.

I thought my last post would instigate a bit of sensible debate. The first quote is from Peter Lawwell at the end of February 2014 and the second quote is from Ronny Deila last week.
I thought the change in tact that I highlighted would help sensible civilised debate between the different camps. The quotes and the highlighted quotes highlight issues that are worthwhile being debated and possibly is the reason for the discontent.
Not one comment . Zilch. The ability of nearly all the posters to analyse our strategies and polices. Is I repeat Zilch… whether they are roasters, attention seekers, hunfiltrators or disciples of the Board.
That´s why CQN is dying. It is like the comments page on the Record after a Keith Jackson article (when allowed) without any moderation.

Condemn the Israeli atrocities outright without reference to any other force and I’ll believe you are simply trying to bring balance, from what I’ve seen you are the most vociferous about evening up numbers. Something I have been asking you about since this horrible discussion started.

I’m hopeful I’ll get through customs as the puss has congealed and is no longer in liquid form.

Balanced debate does not mean one side is as bad as the other. As a Celtic fan, you should be more aware of that than most.

I agree completely with you. The rubber nuts are in some cases multiples posters though, padding out their “presence”.
You could speculate WHY they are relentless in their attempts to dumb down the blog, but then I’d probably be called paranoid eh? :-)

I actually thought it was in reply to someone.
I thought the quotes were interesting.
I believe Celtic are ready to deal in a striker from Cardiff City who Ronny had on loan a while ago. Berget.

Thanks for that mate. Sometimes i feel i open myself to the “do you go to the games” brigade.
I’ve been away from Scotland for 11 years now but have posted (and “lurked” more recently) since the inception of CQN.
I still have my season ticket and now tune in for every game on Celtic TV so feel my opinion is still valid.
I just can’t get my head around this nonsense about PL and the board. These guys are all Celtic supporters. For some reason the conspiracy theorists would have us believe they are hell bent on running our club in to the ground.
Our new manager seems to be a very headstrong individual. The very suggestion that he would give up a position in Norway where he was highly regarded to come to Scotland (that footballing land of milk and honey), simply to become the “patsy” of some board of directors is beyond absurd.
Yet, incredibly, this seems to preoccupy the minds of some on this (and other) forums.
I’m far from being a “happy clapper”, but i do pride myself in seeing the woods from the trees….
HH to you mate, and hope to speak to you on CTV (under the name of deecfc67)

Tony Watt £80,000K? – percentage profit for Celtic much higher than Wanyama.

Fair enough. At times there is only so much Celtic news that can be discussed, and in down times the CQN community will debate events that dominate the news. These are emotive issues so passions run high.
Haven’t commented on Tony Watt, my take is that some people rate him highly. I’m not one of those people. Thought he was the only player that looked dangerous against St Pauli, without him playing particularly well, but that is damning him with faint praise considering how poor the team performance was.
Given our lack of quality up front I thought we may have hung onto him a few more weeks to see what we bring in, but given my view that he wouldn’t make it, and the persistently reported attitude problems, I’m not surprised to see him go.
Despite his pre season goals, Pukki still doesn’t convince me, I think Griffiths is our best striker, saying something since I was vehemently opposed to his signing, and would like to see him given the chance through the middle. If he tried to model his game on Robben(diving aside) I think he could play on the right, but he doesn’t look quite comfortable there. I suspect he’ll remain there until more options open on through transfers or Forrest returning.
On Mackay Steven, thought for a few years he could be a Celtic player, yet he hasn’t quite kicked on. Take him before Derk right enough. Gutted we missed out / never went for Gauld, hard to attract a number 10 type to Scotland, so when there is one on your doorstep that I think could be a star, I think we should have got him long ago. Good luck to the kid though
Auldheid
Maybe you saw nothing in TW but Celtic did. The club signed him twice. He had nine starts at Lierse and scored 8 goals. Also, Liege see something in him.
I think he was the most direct striker I have seen at CP in a few years. Just surmise but TW himself said the other day that he was rusty. I think he showed up to training out of shape and RD likely didn’t appreciate that. I hope TW gets his act together, would love to see him back in a Celtic strip one day.

Bom dia,
So.
Tony Watt.
Gone.
…just glad he didna sign for Maacabi Tel Aviv or this place would’ve been in total meltdown !!
Whatever. Facetiousness aside – I wonder how much of that 1.2m GBP transfer fee would be actual profit when all the wages, costs associated with developing Mr Watt is taken into account.
Anybody any idea?

Aye, I got the gist from reading back and I see your point. Not everyone has that analytical, mathematical brain of yours though-me included! I do appreciate your tech advice on occasion though and still use one of your suggested free malware applications from way back.
In fairness to Ronny and his management team, I’m willing to give him two seasons to build his own team and see where he takes us. Any less than that is turning us into our hysterical, financial doping neighbors down south.
Which senior player was it who when asked ” Where do you see do you see Tony Watt in 5 year” replied “Driving a taxi.”

Berget started his career at Lyn and played twice before left the club.
Udinese[edit]
Berget signed a reported 3-year contract with Udinese in July 2008.[3] The club also signed team-mate Odion Ighalo and they played at Primavera U20 team.
In March 2009, he was loaned back to Lyn until 2 August.[4] and later extended.
In December 2009, he was loaned to Strømsgodset for one year.[5] In January 2011, his loan extended to 31 December 2011, but the loan deal was terminated when Berget was sold to Molde in July 2011.[6]
Molde[edit]
Berget made his debut for Molde in a 1–0 win home against Lillestrøm, replacing Mattias Moström in the 74th minute. He scored his first goal in the title-deciding match against Tromsø on 2 October 2011. On 30 October 2011, he and the rest of Molde FK celebrated their first league championship.
Cardiff City[edit]
On 24 January 2014, he signed for Cardiff City, to once again play under the manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who was previously his boss at Molde.[7]

The idea of the new manager cutting him loose is laughable. It’s sell sell sell all the way at Celtic park, take the season ticket money early, buy no-one, gamble we get into the champions league, then throw a few crumbs to the manager.
Is it any wonder we can only half fill any home stadium we occupy now.
Lawwell used to came away with “we always look to come out a transfer window stronger”, funny I’ve not heard him lately on this, since it has been a long while since it has actually been true.
C’mon Celtic, give us something to look forward to, constant speculation about who is leaving is just boring.

Maybe we should all just close our eyes and cover our ears and pretend it’s not happening then ?
Maybe we shouldn’t have supported Mandela or the Hillsborough campaign either then
……………………………………….
Out of all the football teams on this planet, why do you think that it is incumbent on Celtic or Celtic supporters to be the one(s) to make a stance against Israel? We are in enough trouble with EUFA re the divisive political protests of the Green Brigade. Likewise Nelson Mandela, we are a football club. He was a great man and almost every human being wanted him freed but it was sod all to do with Celtic as a football club. Hillsborough is an entirely different case. It could have happened to us at Nottingham. It is football related and we have a friendly relationship with Liverpool Football Club and (most) of their fans.

Boycott, call for Israeli football teams to be suspended you are free to do whatever you like. Except if you’re living under an Islamist extremist regime, which is why they should be stood up to wherever they appear. This is all I am doing here it’s just a shame you guys don’t realise it.
