Standard Watt

545

Two years ago, Tony Watt was putting a light under our fire. The debut goals at Motherwell, the point rescued at Dingwall, then came THAT goal, his future looked secure, but it’s been downhill since.

Tony has the athletic abilities to be a firm favourite, but Neil Lennon shipped him out a year ago, amid comments about the player sorting himself out. His manager at loan club Lierse was soon singing the same song. Now the player is in Liege as Celtic have accepted a bid from Standard for a player, who under different circumstances, would be considered a prodigy.

It is no surprise Ronny Deila has decided to cut him loose; what little we know about our new manager suggests he doesn’t offer too many last chances. For Tony, this is likely to be the last chance to build a memorable career, if he slips up at Standard, next stop will be the likes of Kilmarnock.

Clearly Ronny is not being given the same rope as Lenny was given in February as far as PLs quotes are concerned.. I do not think Lenny believed Peter Lawwell and hence his subsequent resignation. It is the usual spin and was designed to keep Lenny on side. Ronny is clearly singing from the same hymn sheet as Peter. He has no other option. The quotes went from spending before the CL and millions to not being able to. Season ticket sales are also a factor in all of this. The pair of them are hardly media darlings and it amazes me how few on here pick up on these things.

I found PLs comments about three out of five being not too bad as jaw dropping. I would fire him for that alone considering all the factors involved. I truly believe that he was softening everybody up for a CL failure and buying Ronnie time to do it they way they want to do it. The parsimonious way while banking millions. Shocking behaviour as far as I am concerned.

    Hope that makes things clearer

  9. CELTIC Football Club today announced the signing of Jo Inge Berget from Cardiff City on loan until January 2015, with an option to buy the player.

Jo, who will be part of the squad which travels to Warsaw tomorrow, is delighted to be joining Celtic.

The Norwegian internationalist told the official Celtic website: “I am delighted to join Celtic and I’m looking to make the very best of this great opportunity.

“I know what a magnificent club Celtic is and what the club means to the supporters – it is a real privilege to be here.

“I also know the manager very well and I am delighted to be teaming up with him again and, of course, the great squad of players at the club.”

Celtic manager Ronny Deila added: “I’m really pleased that we have been able to add Jo to our squad. I know his qualities and I am sure he can add something new to the team.

“He is a player who will work hard and give everything to the team. I hope he can enjoy a successful time at Celtic.”

The 23-year-old attacker joined Cardiff City in January from Molde, where he’d spent the previous three years. He’s also spent a season on loan at Stromsgodset between 2010-11, during a three-year spell with Italian side Udinese.

I’ve no idea and, to be honest, could care less.

As for your point about, “Surely some are not suggesting the murder of innocents should be silently ignored” with the greatest of respect to you, Canamalar, I don’t see why Celtic supporters should feel that we are obliged to do something at a Celtic game to show our revulsion. There are other forums for such political displays usually in the form of a march or a rally at a venue such as George Square or Glasgow Green or wherever. This can be advertised with reasons given for the protest and aims of the protest.

A potential Celtic v Maccabees game has a reason – a football contest between two teams – and an aim – one of those two teams emerging as victors and gaining entry into the CL group stages. Why do any group of Celtic supporters feel that they have the right to make any protest in the name of the club without first of all consulting the club.

I see certain posters using multiple blog names. Sure, Kojo was caught red handed last week and I imagine that Paul can trace if the same server is the source for different nom de blogs.

Forgive my ignorance or naivete, but how can this bring down the blog? It can certainly annoy the honest posters but what real damage do these guys do? Some of the right wing nut cases annoy me but I just scroll by them. I’d be quite lost without my CQN fix.

You seem to be au fait with the technicalities and I’d really appreciate if you or someone else could explain it.

  23. JonnyRambo67 on

I understand people wanting us to spend to get in the CL. I really do. If you’re not happy with the quality of this player then fair enough.

    But

Every club in the world would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy on every transfer as opposed to buying outright.

I don’t see that part as a negative
