Standing in, or walking to, the right place

I watched Moussa Dembele’s goal on Saturday again. Danny Wilson left his post which gave the Celtic striker the opportunity. The weight of his mistake was immediately apparent to the Newco player, who swung his fist into the turf three times.

Wilson made a mistake which will damage his reputation, but in violently punching the pitch, he was acknowledging the error, and its consequences. You’ll seldom see a player displaying this level of dissonance getting grief from a team-mate.

Compare that to the reaction to Scott Sinclair’s goal. Newco had two central defenders on Dembele. As the move developed, Tavernier was on Sinclair, but the Celtic midfielder jogged 10 yards clear of his marker.

Just as Stuart Armstrong played the ball to Patrick Roberts, Tavernier looked around, but not in the direction of Sinclair, who was already free. When Sinclair converted Kiernan yelled at Tavernier

Part of the game is just standing in, or walking to, the right place. Failure to do this isn’t an indication of lack of talent, more, Newco have not done the basics on the training ground.

A catalogue of his least favourite pets? My least favourite pet was a goldfish named Reggie. Named after Blinker…which is odd because goldfish don’t have eyelids…

  5. Reading back saw a few people yesterday talking about bringing in another striker. I’d be very surprised since we rarely play with 2 strikers and have enough problems keeping the two we have at the moment happy. I think resources will be concentrated on the 1st team and not squad players, and give the likes of Aitchison or Crossan an opportunity as and when required. I’m sure we’ll be scouting players to replace Dembele, but I think / hope he’ll be here till the summer of 2018, where hopefully he bangs in a hat trick for France in the World Cup final!

  11. Great to see that we now have more than 50 entries for *** GOALS FOR SHAY ***. And with 10 days or so before the competition kicks off I’m confident we could get close to double that, meaning a potential prizepot of £500 and, of course, the same funds for Walk With Shay.

Wonder how much he left Hunco with? If he ecieved any kind of pay off it means they are effectively subsidising his wages from Burnley? Got to think he’s been a bargain signing for Sean Dyche as nobody would touch him otherwise surely?

Well said re VFR’s “best manager we have had since Jock Stein” claim.

Brendan inherited a team that had just won the league by 15 points, while Martin had the challenge of taking charge of one which had finished the previous season 21 points adrift.

Nice bit of symmetry there, given that that 36 point difference was the total of the miraculous turnaround achieved by Martin in his first season against, as we now know, a club that was cheating, and was “able” to spend 12 million pounds on one player that same season.

Of course, 2 cups were added, bringing us our first treble since 1969, and only the third in our unbroken history, all at a time where I’d’ve been happy just to at least have put up a fight for the title, never mind walk it!

Whatever he achieves this season, Brendan won’t surpass Martin’s first season miracle, and that’s without me checking in which games Rangers (1872-2012) fielded improperly registered players that season.

I’ve checked 2002-3, and 2004-5,and, not being the vindictive sort, I’ll just deduct 3 points for one improperly registered player in one match in each of those seasons, and that only leaves Brendan 5 titles short of matching Martin’s haul. In a row, of course.

To me this season was huge.

They have been building up for it since their creation but now the reality of their situation is biting.

They wont stick about to see much more of it.

Keep tanking them and they will begin to vanish.

A wee wind up along the way makes it all a bit more fun.

While not being the major hub for trading the slaves, the Tobacco Lords of Glasgow made their fortunes off the plantations that the slaves worked, and their ships were involved in the “Triangular Trade”.

  29. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Plus of course,no point in having slave ships if you don’t have slave buyers.

    The plantations were disproportionately Scottish-owned.
