Stellar career with recent patchwork of clubs

500

In the space of three days, Celtic have gone from having a goalkeeper deficit to looking like they are sorted for the coming campaign, and possibly for a few years to come.  Kasper Schmeichel will fill the leading role this season with Viljami Sinisalo as understudy.

Kasper is four years older than Joe Hart was when he joined in 2021.  Whereas Joe only played around 40 games in the four seasons before then, Kasper has been first choice everywhere he has been for 15 years.

While at Leicester two years ago, Brendan Rodgers sold then 36-year-old Kasper to Nice for £1m.  After one season in France, Nice promoted their reserve keeper to the top spot and released Kasper, who spent last season at Anderlecht.

That recent patchwork of clubs is the only concern in a stellar career for the Denmark captain.  At Celtic he will be required to cope with high pressure environments like cup finals and Champions League games, while helping to develop the career of the man who will hopefully succeed him.  His form at the Euros suggests he is ready for the task.

  1. lets all do the huddle on

    We need 2 strikers in,not 1

    thats true

but if you are a club that plays with 1 up front how do you convince a 2nd striker to sign knowing he will be on the bench for most of the season?

  2. lets all do the huddle on

i mean specifically getting a striker to come to Scotland to sit on the bench

It’s very simple logic. Young development players improve. We sign players with a particular profile for that readon

If we signed a bunch of players at their peak you’d have a point but we don’t, we sign them to improve them, and turn them into first teamers.

It’s not an accident when I happens, it’s a very basic part of the plan

So assuming young players improve it’s hardly a stretch to suggest all those players who are a year further on in their development, bigger, stronger, coached by Brendan for a year, settled in a new country, would be better.

And the squad would be better

    It’s the plan

  4. Sorry wi fi malfunction.

There is no valid reason why we cannot play two strikers in domestic games.

For most games we are playing teams with only a fraction of our resources.

While prudence is always advantageous, There is scope and justification for substantial team investment.

    HH.

Let’s- we need to try and plan for different possibilities, and against different opponents, I wish we would play 2 up front personally…

i agree with that as well, no reason at all.

but we dont and dont think we will

    totally agree

but i dont think we will

  8. We have sold Oh

Rocco Vata chose to leave despite being told he would be one of three strikers at Celtic

    Adam may not return….

That is weaker all season long

Tommy Conway could be a good option, young, looks like he wants to move….

Still leaves us weaker up front numbers wise though

  9. Anybody debating whether we are weaker or the same or stronger this season than last are debating without full knowledge of the variables.

We will only know if we are better , worse or the same in season 2024/25 when we start playing competitive fixtures in 2024/25. Even then, we won’t know it from the first month’s fixtures or the first few months unless there is an either a spectacular up turn or spectacular downturn in either our domestic or European results.

We don’t know what our squad will be when the transfer window closes so any current comparison is premature. Yes we know who has left and who has come in but we don’t know who is yet to leave and who is yet to come in.

And it’s the same every close season. People confidently predict there will be no more new signings even before we’re halfway through the window (even though they know there has never been a summer window recently without some late signings). Others confidently predict we’ll get so and so and, they’re sometimes right, but they’re often wrong too. We are constantly surprised by signings like Hatate and O’Riley and Frimpong who are immediately declared as projects while we tend to welcome players like Shane Duffy and Nat Phillips because they’re battle hardened EPL players.

The only thing we can say with any confidence is that our pre-season fixtures are undertaken with a weaker squad. Our Internationalsts have only recently returned and the likes of CCV and Al Johnston have still to do so. Coupled with 2 new keepers who promise to be our number 1 & 2 options and we have a very experimental defence, at least, to play with. We cannot and should not expect Kyogo and Greg Taylor to play 90 minutes in each of the 3 USA fixtures so there will be more experimentation with a False 9 and a False LB in Kobayashi or Scales. We do have a plethora of midfielders and wingers mind so we can rotate.

Our North American fans are going to see a heavily rotated team because of pre-season preparations and the heat and the short time between matches. Boys with only 5th tier experience in Scotland and very little of it in Dane Murray’s case are going to be expected to go up against Man City and Chelsea. Thankfully, they too will be fielding experimental sides too for similar reason. Only problem is their reserves and back ups and new boys are better than those we have brought.

I have no idea if we will be competitive or slaughtered in any or all of the 3 games and anyone claiming they know is delusional.

Even if we get pumped in all 3, it will have no bearing on who we buy or when we buy them between now and the end of the window but that bold truth won’t stand in the way of posters confidently declaring we won’t sign anyone- they just disappear after they have been proven wrong yet again., just keeping themselves warm with resentments over the Willo Flood window.

Absolutely spot-on. Let’s hold onto our emotions until the season kicks off and/or the window closes. Then we’ll know how strong we look for the new season.

We do seem to take a lot of time singing players though and can understand why fans get frustrated with it.

Agreed. Although I’d argue the timeframe should be over the whole season

Broonie lost it over the course of the COVID season while we’ve seen a plenty of players become difference-makers over the course of a seadon

  17. This time last year Matt O’Riley wasn’t wanted by some of the best teams in Europe.

He hadn’t made his debut for Denmark, he wasn’t the best player in Scotland. That all happened over the course of the season

Hopefully Matt is one of them. Would likely be his last season for us though.

  20. Guy told me earlier, that Hun game tommorow is Man U home match, and that they only get expenses,Rangers that is,no ticket money,as the organizers have made this a friendly, included in the deal by them when Rangers reneged on the Oz tour.Anyone know if this is fact?.

  21. Lets all do the huddle

The only guy we have signed so far to sit on the bench is Viljami Sinisalo

TB- True,it’s a trade off from the legal action the organisers, against the huns reneging on Ange Homecoming Game, another genius move by Bisgrove

So if we only have 2 first team strikers, both are injured, who plays up front, we have zero coming through the academy. Conway from Bristol City for 300k is well worth a punt
