Stellar career with recent patchwork of clubs

500

In the space of three days, Celtic have gone from having a goalkeeper deficit to looking like they are sorted for the coming campaign, and possibly for a few years to come.  Kasper Schmeichel will fill the leading role this season with Viljami Sinisalo as understudy.

Kasper is four years older than Joe Hart was when he joined in 2021.  Whereas Joe only played around 40 games in the four seasons before then, Kasper has been first choice everywhere he has been for 15 years.

While at Leicester two years ago, Brendan Rodgers sold then 36-year-old Kasper to Nice for £1m.  After one season in France, Nice promoted their reserve keeper to the top spot and released Kasper, who spent last season at Anderlecht.

That recent patchwork of clubs is the only concern in a stellar career for the Denmark captain.  At Celtic he will be required to cope with high pressure environments like cup finals and Champions League games, while helping to develop the career of the man who will hopefully succeed him.  His form at the Euros suggests he is ready for the task.

  4. Good work out for all the Bhoys that played, streets ahead of the MLS team, and could have been a few goals even better. Like the way we we tried to play, like the template, everybody bought into it. Good to see the new keeper get some game time too.

Well done Celtic FC in er DC!

Have to say…I enjoyed tonight’s game.

Quick, accurate forward passes were the order of the day. If this is the way BR is going to have us play, then I am all for it. That said, it might not be quite as successful against the Low Block that is all the rage in Scotland.

I felt sorry for Bosun Lawal. Subbed on and subbed off shortly thereafter. Unless he has picked up a knock, I’d imagine that his time with Brendan will be coming to an end.

The 2 young full backs looked good. Donovan and Anderson.

    Cheers,

    Weeron.

  7. Good workout against a very poor opponent. Finished 4-0 when it could easily have been 8-0, with a missed penalty and a number of good chances wasted.

Hard to judge defensive performance as we were not tested, other than when playing out against a high press, which we did well in the main.

Bain looked very comfortable on the ball, more so than the new keeper who got the 2nd half. Both young full backs also looked comfortable on the ball and never hid. Matt in the right place at the right time to score twice.

Good energy shown by some of the subs in the 2nd half. Holm looking lively in midfield. Lawal on the other hand looks very raw still imo, and might benefit from another loan spell.

In summary, a good workout. Got match time into legs, including a couple of young ones. Also highlighted what we already know in that there’s much room for improvement still.

  8. We obviously need to get another centre forward in asap. Though if we want quality, we will likely have to wait until late in the transfer window as those kind of players (and their agents) will be holding out for a better offer than coming to the SPFL. If we are serious about Idah, and agreeing a fee is the only issue, we need to make a final offer – telling Norwich to take it or leave it, with a dead line, otherwise we withdraw the offer and move onto the next forward on the scouting report.

Relying on Kyogo is a risky game. Injury or loss of form and we’re in trouble.

I’m not expecting to see another CH or LB to be signed before we get players off the payroll first. We can’t just keep adding players to an already bloated squad, whilst also adding to our wage bill. We need to get some of the unwanted shipped out and off the wage bill first. Easier said than done.

    Bhoys,

Just back from the game. Had a blast and drove my family up from Alabama, 12 hr drive. Got to meet Brendan today and got my pictures taken with the trophies from last season. Got to see my special cuz Theresa who works for the Tic, best day in a long time. Game was great , Celtic fans were brilliant. My American wife and kids got to see their old man in his prime.

Team looked good and set up many chances. Will be much tougher next two games, but some of the play on that cow field tonight was excellent. Got to see Big kasper 👍👍👍

Overall, best day in a long time and my family really understands what it means to be Celtic!!!!
