Stick to what you’re good at Celtic

597

Spartak Moscow have appointed Valery Karpin as caretaker manager.  The former Russian international has had an active role in the club since 2008, variously as chief executive and manager.  He took control of the first team when he replaced Michael Laudrup in 2009 until Unai Emeri’s appointment this summer when Karpin returned to his executive role.

He is an experienced pair of hands who is likely to stabilise things after the spirit had been drained from the club.  Spartak are already out of Europe but will pose no less a threat than Inverness when they arrive at Celtic Park next midweek.

Neil Lennon will not be particularly concerned by the impact of Celtic’s defeat by Inverness on Saturday on the league table but the experience will still be arresting.  Celtic have won three of five away games in Europe this season, losing the other two by a single goal, but there is clearly still work to do when faced with a home challenge in the SPL.  Valery Karpin will be keen to prove he can exploit this.

Celtic have established credentials in three areas this season: they can defend adroitly when setup to do so, they are a major threat at set-pieces and they are an effective counter-attacking side.  Any other attributes remain a matter for conjecture.

The first instruction against Spartak should be ‘stick to what you’re good at’.

    Kojo,

I wasn’t being in any way derogatory, just simply being honest in saying that I tend to scroll past Celtic Conservatives as I categorise them as oxymorons.

However, although I might disagree with your political views from the nickels that I’ve spent I’d say you’re a pretty shrewd assessor of a football player.

  5. Re: Sam Allardyce and West Ham fans behaviour at the w/end.

Reports in the Italian press over here suggest that some West Ham (and Leeds) fans MAY have been involved in the attack on Spurs fans in Rome last week before the EL match against Lazio, whose fans are the most racist in the country.

If I’ve done my sums correctly, it amounts to £125,044,162,708.00.

If Oldco has been liquidated it is because they gave this money away to current and former employees (why? To entice them to stay and gratify Minty’s ego by dominating European football – something else they miserably failed to do – or what?) and have not had a penny of it repaid!!

Good management, I’m sure you’ll agree. They have no-one to blame but themselves for their own downfall.

    Keep smiling.

    PS. Try saying that amount!

One hundred and twenty five thousand and forty four million, one hundred and sixty two thousand, seven hundred and eight pounds.

the truth……the stones sounded alright but i along with many got seriously bored at times.the hits where good..but the lesser known new album stuff was beyond boring…value for money NOT ..band on stage 2 hours ish.

mccartney though much maligned character he seems to be was impeccable….never even went near a ‘new’ song..wasnt flogging a latest album and just blew us all away with a beatles hits show ..added to that being scottish and hearing ‘mull’ with pipes and all was inspirational……the stones where not bad but mccartney was in a league above..ANYONE who was at that hampden gig in may 2010 will tell you the same

not been reading comments since Saturday but I think it was a wee bit petutant of NL saying that if the support want him to go then he will, especially to chick young, its exactly the stuff they want to hear. Lennon has the full backing of the support and should be big enough to handle a bit of criticism from individuals in the crowd, not that Im condoning them

I think your idea is unlikely, though I suspect it was probably a factor in allowing the tribunal to sit in private.

I also wonder if Dr Poon was in the minority on that decision too, and whether the reason her dissenting opinion was so lengthy and so detailed was to frustrate the effect of the tribunal sitting in private.
