Still no excuses

274

I expected Kairat to be fitter, which they were, but I didn’t expect them to be better organised, which they also were.  Celtic’s first half performance was a passive throwback to the Horseshoe of Death we hoped to have moved on from.  Nothing was reaching Adam Idah, who was as much a spectator as you and I were.  James Forrest seemed to have the wrong boots on, while Daizen continued an unproductive run on the wing which reiterated his poor crossing.

One of my pet dislikes in managers is their refusal to drop expensive signings, so Brendan Rodgers deserves credit for his response at halftime.  The team returned with his entire £32m of talent recruited last summer watching from the bench; Daizen in his favoured central position, with Yang and Forrest wide.

Yang (who knew!) made an instant impact which led to Celtic’s best chance of the game, when a Forrest shot hit the post, but Kairat soon settled.  As the visitors tired, Celtic dominated more of possession, but this game had 0-0 written all over it.

Kairat are not a good team, it would be humiliating to exit the Champions League to them.  Brendan is right, we can and should win the away leg.  However, I do not encourage you to bet on that suggestion.

The decision to swap (it was) Kyogo for Jota was not everyone’s choice but had merit.  Jota’s subsequent injury could have happened to either player.  Selling Kuhn so early in this window, though, that’s an odd one which, contributed to the lack of creativity last night.  The manager is the only source of information on squad development and he says little on the subject.  He could shed some light on why Kuhn was allowed to leave so soon.  Hmmm.

More needs to be spent and quickly, that’s for sure.  Maybe if we had £64m of last summer’s signings on the bench everything would fine this morning!  Surely that would be enough to overcome the newbie managing Kairat?

When the draw was made I wrote, “No excuses”.  I didn’t want to hear them on the radio going home last night.  It’s not a good look.

Surely the powers that be and the player/agents etc decide who leaves?

    Hammer the manager again……….

  2. bournesouprecipe on

Celtic supporters were well entitled to think we’d beat the team ranked hundreds of places below at home, (bravado had a 6-0 ) A team sheet that could have made you greet, – Sack the Board was inevitable for many with any summer listening ears on. Rumours of anti Brendan Rodgers sentiment coming from boardroom chicanery, a lucky 0-0 now sends a shadow Celtic side, spiralling towards the CL plughole. Some experts might prefer ‘that squad’ somewhere in a Europa pot, either way it’s behind the couch TV nights this autumn , any cavalry are now well late, with the cowboys already headed off at the pass.

Brendan disnae get what he wants clearly should have been Paul67’s leader though he did get cataclysmic retrenchment spot on, potentially. Probably much sooner than he thought, £40M is a helluva gamble for mild and mute, obscenely well paid ‘custodians’ to take, but take it they have. It could be they were right about stashing all the money in case we didn’t qualify ( if that’s why they do? ) Maybe they did it all deliberately, they’ll claim ‘ told you so ‘ and not notice they’ve shot the club, the supporters and themselves in the foot, with their magic bullet.

‘The board’ had one job and couldn’t have been handed an easier task, but they decided not to back our manager – it’s out now, no more fibbing?, Whether you love him or loathe him, isn’t a factor, they definitely did it and now they might reap what they sow. The transfer market where they couldn’t get more money in any quicker, than they did, a comedy to the extent the no replacements policy might not matter anymore, when the patch up starts. The red flags were there from the day it opened, there really is no excuse for ‘one shot on target’ not in the ‘Jamie Vardy phew…only a rumour’ window – shirley? Jetting in “ club signings “ that nobody knows from the East really looks farcical, some are already welded to contracts till 2029 and can only be loaned away.

A couple of quality signings might have gotten a home win, but probably not, a first team ‘transfer freeze’ and a suspension of supporters money, however, is verging on the ridiculous and gets you nothing. The writing was on the wall, spray painted at that, since last January until May at Hampden where we witnessed tired minds, who couldn’t get up for it, a look that’s still there . Soundly thrashed in pre season, even lone star Daizen Maeda hasn’t kicked a ball since he got his own song, is he fully fit? A hat- trick of vital misses Ibrokes, Hampden, and Parkhead won’t prevent what looks like the next ‘sell high’ , – watch them double down on a successful policy, if we get any serious bid. A trip to a horrible, menacing, hostile ground, with an alien atmosphere, straight after we get home from Kazakhstan, is not really what we would have wanted at this stage.

With a holed below the waterline relationship with power brokers fully exposed Brendan Rodgers has already told us, ( nobody else has told us anything ) he’s ambitious, and not a maintenance man. That’ll be the next Ronny, Jonny, or wee Shauny, nobody wins forever but the truest thing ever said was that Celtic themselves, are the biggest threat to Celtic.

Why is no one questioning the performance of our head of football operations, Paul Tisdale?

    TT

You would think the job of a Celtic blogger would be to do that very thing? Hmmm……

  5. Why is no one questioning the performance of our head of football operations, Paul Tisdale?

Maybe because none of us really knows what he’s meant to be doing?

  6. Tiny Tim

    Great question

Because Tisdale is Brendan’s man and it doesn’t suit the pre conceived narrative of ‘hard of thinking’ who seem to think the ‘Board’ somehow control who we sign.

For the millionth time there are 2 board members who are anywhere near recruitment plus the guy who has most of the shares. Not the other 5 or 6 board members who have nothing to do with it.

  7. What exactly does this

Sack the Board shite mean ?

The dominant shareholder sacks all those he has appointed to deliver his strategy which they have done effectively for 22 years ?

  8. I think most fans blame the board. The silent and anonymous execs happy to take their near million a year while leaving others to continually front up for their failures will rightly face scrutiny.

Good luck selling Europa league packages, Mr Nicholson. Time to get the top tier seat covers out off cold storage I fear.

  9. bournesouprecipe on

Apparently over on ZZ, they’re still calling Russell Martin a charlatan.

You’d never hear a Celtic supporter saying that about our manager?

  10. James Forrest

Away back to your maws living room and churn out more anti Celtic crap to make you a few cheap pennies for clicks.

Or get a job so you might one day be able to afford a season ticket.

  11. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Still a 50-50 tie. If anything I’d probably have us as slight favourites.

Been banging on for years about the futility of trying to ride the Champions League and old firm horses at the same time. One requires improvement, the other regression. Just can’t possibly be done! Better to pick one and do it well rather than doing both pretty badly.

  12. Its more than reasonable to question BR since January this year. Inept performances against Rangers..barry Fergusons rangers… a woeful display in a SC final . BR high profile signings not making the grade, with arguably the best of the 3 being kept out by the worfull scales .

His passive aggressive cryptic messages feed the paranoia .

  13. An Dun

Celtic bloggers dance to Brendan’s tune to get clicks and cash . MSM gleefully align and magnify.

    Nothing sells like Celtic negativity.

Agree Nicholson does nothing in terms of coms and seems to be an administrator at best. Hides and lets the fact that the history of Lawwell living in people’s heads rent free get him off the hook.

  14. All Rodgers fault. 😂😂😂😂….

Stevie Wonder could see how short we are …we are THREE forwards short…we are a left back short and we now are a right back short…..as a fan when AJ went down…3 months out..I immediately thought right we need a replacement for first half of season irrespective of cost

Do people in charge of finances think like that 🤔

As time goes on the more and more I think ….mmm ..that’s what you get for getting my boy removed!!!

  15. As predictable a blog post as we imagined, blame the manager, blame, the manager.

Thankfully, P67 is one of the lone voices howling at the moon. The vast majority of the support are right behind the manager. If they though last nights chanting of STB was bad, wait till they hear Saturdays songbook.

  17. If people can’t see Rodger’s pathetic game since he arrived then god help them though.

We had a winning team playing great football and now we have a shambles.

The difference is at Leicester he got them relegated after being a top tier team and nearly bankrupt them and they are still recovering.

Rodger’s playing our idiot support is entirely the largest shareholders owners fault. Predictable from day 1.

Pity as the guy inherited a great team playing great football.

Do you think the board will sack Brendan or force him out the door by not sanctioning any transfers?

  22. Bournesouprecipe

    More than Rodger’s to blame

He is to blame though. How else do you take a dominant team winning a treble and exciting us all every week to the level we are now at ?

I accept an invisible CEO does not help. Also very poor club coms allowing clowns and BR to run the narrative. Lazy and weak I would say but BR is disruptive and his horseshoe style is outdated.

‘He (BR) could shed some light on why Kuhn was allowed to leave to soon. Hmmm’. You said.

Do you honestly believe that Brendan called Nicholson or Dermot and said, ‘ you know what would be a good idea? Let’s sell Kuhn.’ ?????

Seriously. While it is abundantly clear that you don’t like Brendan, do you honestly think that he would want rid of a top player – especially when there is little probability of him being replaced?

Really. I have been in and around this blog since the very early days. I know that you are capable of better.

People can think for themselves. Board apologists like the host and yourself are howling at the moon.

A much needed rip up of the status quo within the boardroom is fast approaching.

Prepare for chaos, starting with Saturday.

  26. The shite is we are no better off from the Whyte and Kelly days, richer yes better off no, the plc is first and always will be, this has been caused by the way McCann sold his shares, he said he wanted to make 10% he made 400% if my arithmetic is correct, the wee guys had no chance, the vast majority of these shares have ended up in blocks owned or controlled by Desmond, we’re a plaything to him to sit at big games/occasions and play the owner role, if he ran Sandy Bay as he does Celtic denying it proper investment against competitors would it still be visited or of the standard to visit it, is he a good businessman or just lucky, buys at the right time sells at the right time, I wonder.

  27. P67,

    The gaslighting continues.

Forget about the complete lack of support for the manager in terms of replacing the multiple goals we’ve lost in our team since last January.

Let’s look at our stadium that’s slowly decaying year on year. An increase on season ticket cost, year on year any benefits eradicated (such as a free pre-season friendly game). You can’t even wash your hands in the toilet with warm water – an absolute disgrace, that Rodgers fault as well?

Brendan Rodgers is the manager, not Desmond, Lawwell or Nicholson. You let him manage, you back him, or you sack him – simples.

The club belongs to the supporters, always will, not Desmond’s plaything. Not the boards plaything, the lack of communication at AGMs or any other time of the year from the board is a downright disgrace.

Where’s the vision? What’s the 5 year plan? One toenail ahead of Rangers, is that it?

The condition of the stadium will only get worse year on year, it’ll only cost more ever year the issue is ignored.

The board still think it’s 2000. If they don’t want to take the club forward sell up Desmond. The fans will be there a lot longer than you.

Absolute amateur hour, the gaslighting is cringy Paul.

  28. Brendan had a team that played Bayern off the park in Munich last year…his team and his tactics worked….

The board and an injury have taken away his best players and not even TRIED to replace them….but it’s Brendans fault we’re in this position…Burnley 78…you’re definitely a board plant…as are you, Paul67…

  29. bournesouprecipe on

The only thing Brendan Rodgers is to blame for is having won 13 from 15 trophies available to him since he first came to Celtic.

  30. onenightinlisbon on

Some on here won’t be happy until we have wee Sean and big John in the dug out.

  31. Burnley78

    You are a sad person.

I don’t know what your connection is with PL but it is certainly clouding your judgement.

BR is the best manager we have had for years ,but it looks like the board would rather have a puppet,so they can pull his strings.
