Still pathological roulette football 10 years on

211

You and I have seen it dozens of times.  The manager rests half the team in a cup game against lower league opposition and those who participate somehow play as though the game was less important.  Whose fault is that?  Nothing gives out signals that we are not at fully strength like rotating seven players from the starting line-up.

Players are not machines; they cannot climb the mountain every time as though this time was the most crucial.  That is why systems need to be robust enough to see them through mundane days.  Ange Postecoglou was right to rest so many ahead of an important European game.  This act, however, rendered him unable to convince those selected that their adrenalin should be pumping at full throttle.

The angry manager routine from the touchline, and no doubt at halftime, was enough of a top-up to comfortably see the game over the line.  I doubt he was truly angry, as he has seen as many of these type of games as we have.

That ball from Reo Hatate to Jota for the second goal is totemic of how Celtic are playing now.  In any season of the last 10, that ball would have been carried into the final third before circulating down either flank looking for an opening.  This ability to exploit the space behind defenders separates the talented from the earnest.

If you wander down Buchanan St there’s a good chance you will see someone doing a Find the Lady trick, where a queen card is shuffled around a board with two others.  The object is to not take your eyes off the card until you make a decision (you will still lose).  Refereeing can be a bit like that.  When an offence occurs that you decide is punishable with a card, keep your eyes on the player until you have sight of his number.

Referee Steven McLean decided to book the Raith player whose arm met the ball for Celtic’s late penalty.  Steven, however, let his eyes wander off the already booked Sean Mackie, who handled the ball, to the uninvolved Ross Matthews.  A second yellow would have been harsh for Mackie, but still………..

10 years ago today the “they are going to crash and burn” predictions we made of Oldco Rangers for 8 years came to fruition.  Chairman Craig Whyte stood on the steps of Ibrox to say he was putting the club into administration.  Subsequent attempts to negotiate with HMRC failed.  The basket of assets were sold to a consortium and administrators Duff and Phelps wrote a letter of comfort for Companies House to permit the Newco, which had applied for membership of the SFA as Sevco Scotland, to adopt a similar trading name to Oldco: “Rangers”, would be the name.

There were dozens of ways Rangers fall from perpetual debt and losses could have ended, liquidation was not inevitable.  Pain was, though.  You live within your means, or you face consequences.

Newco are approaching their 10th year in business and have yet to live within their means for a single season.  Like Oldco, they are playing roulette football, with no more than a gamblers chance of leaving the table with their shirt.  Like Oldco, I predict they will crash and burn.  It is as though there is something pathological going on.

This will drive celtic fans away these yoons.

    ————

Do you mean Euro yoons ?

However assuming you don’t and your referring to SNP derogatory speak.

Many Celtic fans are sceptical about ” Independence “, with many more doubting the economic prowess of the SNP / Green ” government.

We are not interested in flag waving, soundbites or ridiculous slogans. What we are interested in is our economic future and our children’s economic future.

One of many such issue is pensions. Scotland has an aging population, more so that the rest of the UK..

Who said ” We would guarantee all of the accrued pension rights for the people of Scotland ” ?

I’ll give you a clue : It was our glorious leader before the last referendum.

Now they are tryng to backtrack and there is no coherent policy. What a gamble they are asking the people of Scotland to take.

In summary: There is no economic case for an ” independent ” Scotland and this is becoming increasingly obvious to the many, including swathes of intelligent Celtic supporters.

In 2014 the case for independence was built around North Sea Oil. That industry has now been trashed and demonised by the very people who should protect it, as we seek a realistic transition away from fossil fuels.

Many of our citizens are already suffering fuel poverty and we have a buoyant oil price of circa $94 per barrel.

Show me a viable economic case and then I will take them seriously. Being called a ” yoon ” will not change that.

HH to all on this fine diverse site.

The interesting article from the administrators today in the Mail

An agreement in place with a Bill Murray ( the American Billionaire) to buy out of Admin for £11.5m, agreed with Administrators, FtSFA & FtSPFL

    Until

They good Sevco fans flew over to America and threatened Bill Murray’s wife

Administrator words, they Sevco not prepared to spend any money on removing from Admin.

  4. Anyone else notice how everyone being interviewed in the media around the 10th anniversary of Administration Day claim to have known Craig Whyte was a “fake” and a “charlatan”.

Ally McCoist, Paul Murray and Gordon Smith never did or said anything in 2012 yet in 2022 they’re queuing up to say they didn’t trust the “Motherwell-born billionaire” and knew the club was in dire straits.

    Aye right.

You’re the fraud – how many blog names

At least I use my real name

    ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

    I don’t follow your point?

    How many blog names?

Its me, “park the bus”, somebody posted yesterday to me that “nobody wants to play like Walter Smith.”

    Neither do I.

But the best manager at Celtic since Mr Stein, namely MON, parked the bus and played on the break, a lot, and got us to our first Euro final since the days when Europe hugely respected the status of Celtic fc, and I so wish that MON would’ve, parked the bus and hit on the break, in Seville 2003, however he didn’t and here we are.

Park the bus happened as well on I’m sure it was 2 beach ball Sunday’s at Ibrox? I might be wrong? I viewed MON parking the bus as, smart, street wise, avoid a mugging type of football like we did away to Barcelona in 2004 and put them out of Uefa cup, nobody breathed a word of “anti-football, etc, ” when it works for us, NFL the 1st time as manager played the same tactics in an entire CL group, including Barca with, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, etc, and NFL defeated the amazing Barca team by, parking the bus like MON did, with Efe Ambrose and Kelvin Wilson as our centre half’s, just think about that. There’s a smart, MON, NFL, way to park the bus, and hit on the break as well too. Park the bus adds a bit onto that blog name in an attempt to clarify that there’s a Celtic way to park the bus as well too.

    Its the same bus. 👍

” It isn’t about what the huns think. It’s about what the rest of the football world thinks. They’ve been allowed to get away with gaslighting because they haven’t been challenged.”

If fans are included in that `rest of football`, then my own experience is that supporters at games regularly let THEM know that they`re `not Rangers anymore`. Are you saying that what the fans say and think is to be dismissed?

” And don’t forget when this started there was universal consensus that the old club had died. It wouldn’t have been in the least bit controversial or confrontational for Celtic to have made it absolutely clear what the truth was and were they stood on the issue.”

As there was ` universal consensus` why would Celtic need to have said anything?

” I`m reminded of something Brecht said, ‘If you fight you might lose. If you don’t you’ve already lost.’ Celtic didn’t fight.”

What about ` If you fight you might lose so pick your fights with a degree of forethought` ?

    TM

the thing about that sentence is that it makes it sound like NATO is charging on east

i had this arguement with my mucker in the boozer the other night (the best place for such arguements 😂)

because using that phrasology makes it sound like NATO is trying to invade towards Russia

which is exactly the narrative that Putin is peddeling

but the reality is that it is Ukraine that are heading west, in political terms

so as much as we could talk all day on here about the war-mongerers of Washington anf London, this one is on Russia

    or more specifically Putin

because as with all conflicts, its politicians who decide to start them, and send the citizens to fight them and die, while they sit in their offices back home

does anyone think the majority of Russian people want a scrap?

    naw..

You make a number of understandable points – understandable in as much they are the view of those standing on the sidelines. If you are in a position of power at Celtic, the question must always be “what is best for Celtic?”

In my opinion, and obviously the Celtic board, what was best was to let Ibrox ‘stew in its own juice” and carry on with the business of running Celtic. That decision resulted in great, and in some respects, unprecedented success (4× treble) among other things.

We know what Celtic’s stance brought to the club – what positives would it have delivered to us today if we had ‘got down & dirty’ and dabbled in the Rangers mess ? I say none….in fact it could have seen us caught up and smeared in sh** that was not of our making.

  21. LETS ALL DO THE HUDDLE

Just because Putin says something, it does not mean that it has no bearing in truth.

    NATO is spreading east.

Just how many ex Warsaw Pact members are now part of NATO.

NATO’s natural enemy is Russia and it is spread out from the Arctic Circle to Turkey on the Black Sea.

If I was Russian I would be extremely concerned about Western expansion and the possibility of a hostile force with nuclear capabilities permanently camped on my border.

    Remember the Cuban Missile Crisis.

It is quite easy to see the Russians as the bad guys but if you think Nato are the good guys they you are severly deluded
