Celtic face Icelandic champions Stjarnan in their opening Champions League qualifier, with the first leg just three weeks away. Stjarnan knocked Motherwell out of the Europa League last season, by all accounts the Scottish club should have given a much better account of themselves.
It will be vastly more concerning to Ronny Deila that they went on to eliminate Lech Poznan in the next round. Lech finished second in Poland, just two points behind our old pals Legia Warsaw, and the Polish season starts two weeks before Scotland’s, so there is nothing to be complacent about.
A three goal home defeat at the hands of Inter Milan ended Stjarnan’s European adventure, but by that stage the Icelandic fans must had expired their European budget for the season, the trip to the San Siro would have been a suitable place to bow out.
The other consequential information when we draw teams from near the Arctic Circle is that they are midseason and (from what I can make out) play on an artificial surface.
I’ve no idea what happened to Motherwell and Lech Poznan but there are no excuses for either team and there will be none for Celtic. Let’s get the job done.

Wee Teemu Pukki out scored Alfie Finnbogasson by some distance.
Be careful for what you wish.
To be honest, got quite excited about Stuart Armstrong. Turns out I think both he and GMS will be dynamite, really looking forward to the pair of them this season.
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was our last big name signing.
said it before and i will say it again.
we have to sign a nigerian guy called osa guobadia to team up with jelle vossen.
comon , anyone with the nickname “icecream” must surely be a good combination with jelle

Yes I’m fine Masty, well kinda, I’m just sitting by my I pad today to make sure the big man gets through it today, been praying awe mornin for him.
Over the years the signings that have impressed me the most have been of the ‘Pleasant Surprise’ variety.
Not sure if its been asked, assuming we get to the playoff, can we draw Man u? will theyb e seeded and will we for a playoff.
im sure I can find the table of potential opponents somewhere but cant be bothered looking at the mo.
Robert88,
All explained here.
http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/seedcl2015.html
We can’t play Man U as there is a Champions route and a separate non-Champions route.
Gordon_J backing Neil Lennon
thank you, I’ve seen that site previously, will save that!
No we can’t get MU or any other NON-CHAMPION
Google Bert Kassies
Last time I looked the 5 potential opponents in final CL qualifying round (assuming all seedlings work out) were
APOEL Nicosia
BATE Borisov
Ludogorets
D Zagreb
Maribor
Or even seedings
squire danaher
so no gimmies, except eeerm Maribor!
Ludgorets.
Saw a tv interview with their new Manager ( last week )
Bruno Ribeiro .Big pal of Jose Mourinho. Said he hoped to benefit from their friendship by getting some good players on loan.
danny Wilson allegedly having medical at the “hate factory”,I for one will be delighted he is not heading our way .
Heard that the Ibrox club are chasing someone called Kingsley from Partick Thistle as he looks the part of their type of player.
Leftie
Watched Wilson closely at the end of last season once we were linked with him.
The thought of him be used to replace jason or VVD filled me with horror!
HH jamesgang
Another factor to consider – apart from the recent proven ability of all those 5 teams bar DZ to be at least if not more competitive in the CL than we have over the past 2 seasons – is the anticipated weather in early-mid August
