Stjarnan have form in Scotland and Poland

661

Celtic face Icelandic champions Stjarnan in their opening Champions League qualifier, with the first leg just three weeks away.  Stjarnan knocked Motherwell out of the Europa League last season, by all accounts the Scottish club should have given a much better account of themselves.

It will be vastly more concerning to Ronny Deila that they went on to eliminate Lech Poznan in the next round.  Lech finished second in Poland, just two points behind our old pals Legia Warsaw, and the Polish season starts two weeks before Scotland’s, so there is nothing to be complacent about.

A three goal home defeat at the hands of Inter Milan ended Stjarnan’s European adventure, but by that stage the Icelandic fans must had expired their European budget for the season, the trip to the San Siro would have been a suitable place to bow out.

The other consequential information when we draw teams from near the Arctic Circle is that they are midseason and (from what I can make out) play on an artificial surface.

I’ve no idea what happened to Motherwell and Lech Poznan but there are no excuses for either team and there will be none for Celtic.  Let’s get the job done.

Radio Scotland reporting that Wilson, a Celtic target, is currently undertaking a medical at murray park …… Bless them….hahahaha

  3. Wilson is a smsm myth, not saying how good or bad he is as I haven’t really seen him enough, but from what I have saw of him he is nothing special, just a run of the mill centre half and looked good in the championship, themselves must have opened a wee hidden warchest, last time I looked they where pratted? Mind you they have no debt :)

Another factor to consider – apart from the recent proven ability of all those 5 teams bar DZ to be at least if not more competitive in the CL than we have over the past 2 seasons – is the anticipated weather in early-mid August

    Exactly!

If it stays as it has been so far this summer, none of our opponents will be able to withstand the frozen, frigid tundra that is Weedgie-ville!

Wee debate in the pub yesterday. According to wiki the away end at old CP was covered in 67.

So was it rattled up in the close season? Work hadn’t started during the Lisbon lions lap of honour.

Also, does anyone remember the board, backed I think by the big man, asking us to make it the home end? That idea was kicked out pronto.

Celts lose out again after protracted and tortuous negotiations break down

Audaciously the mighty Gers swooped in a daring 11-th hour SWOOOOOOP to land their man who is widely regarded as Scotland’s greatest ever prospect and certain to lead the mighty and glorious Glasgow Rangers to new and unscaled heights.

Wonder if Wilson was under the impression we were interested when he exercised his right to leave Hearts or was he certain Sevco would come through the play offs?

Too late for a u-turn then to rejoin Hearts.

Seems strange that he is going to spend another season at least in the lower divisions when he could have been looking forward to a crack at the big guns with his former team mates.

I know nothing re proposals to make it the home end but me knowing nothing doesnt mean there weren’t.
