STJARNAN’S STRUGGLE CONTINUES

CELTIC’S Champions League rivals Stjarnan continue to struggle at home after being held to a 1-1 draw by IA Akranes.

The Icelandic champions, 2-0 down from the Parkhead first leg, had hoped for a boost before Wednesday’s return.

However, Runar Pall Sigmundsson’s side have now won just four of their 12 domestic games and have failed to get full points in any of their last four home outings.

The misery continued at the weekend when IA equalised in the 76rd minute through Gardar Gunnlaugsson. They were down to 10 men at the time following a red card for goalkeeper Albert Hafsteinsson 13 minutes earlier.

Olafur Finsen had put Stjarnan ahead just before the interval. Gunnlaugsson’s leveller leaves the title holders in sixth place eight points behind leaders FH having played a game more.
