Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

I enjoy the debates on here. Only ever got into 1 myself but still enjoy seeing other points of view, whether I agree with them or not.

Sometimes we live in a bubble and are rarely challenged on our opinions, it’s good to have someone challenged us or even correct us at times.

For what’s it’s worth I think the board do an ok job with the finances, given the size of our club and the income we generate it would be hard for them not to do a good job in that respect. For me the difficulty comes in their relationship with the fans, they appear to think that THEY are Celtic and whatever they say is “The Celtic Way”.

The way they dealt with the GB issue was a big mistake, thankfully they saw sense at the last miniut but there are still issues that need addressed and I sometimes wonder if they really are on the side of the majority of fans.

Anyone giving them more than 30 days to pay needs their head examined. As far as utilities are concerned i am amazed they don’t have a prepay card

Tony, not sure if this is your Oasis day so I’ll keep it short as.

Without debate this blog is finished. In fact it can be very enjoyable to read two punters having a go at each other with strong substantial arguments. I’ve picked up some interesting stuff during these debates, from the likes of my old school pal SFTB for one. Because I know you personally I can get more of a jist where your coming from, and I see much tongue in cheek in your posts, but at the same time with a wee bit of dig.

Anyway, you get the blog rolling along nicely mid morning, keeping me off the job today in fact. Now, head along for your sweet stout, you old board lover you. By is way WB in the PL camp too?

I was not in favour of our manager being appointed but, even if he were as bad as the manager of thon deid team fae Govan, which, of course, he isn’t, he should remain as Celtic’s manager for as long as he wishes. We OWE him that for what he has endured. Imo, when he goes is entirely a matter for him.

Nooooo, I was just mixed up, cause on page 16 10:15am, YOU SAID, that the guys that you stand with are “more anti board” including yourself, and then in the next post you say you are Pr Board and PL, or am I reading it wrong? As I have said many times posts and texts can be VERY misread .

Your point about SSB is the complete opposite of what I’m saying.

If you’re airing an opinion in response to another point, you’ve joined the debate, and as such, you should probably expect a response – that’s what keeps the board moving along and is all to the good as far as I’m concerned.

My point was that if you’re (not you personally) simply putting it on the page and aren’t interested in people questioning it, or supporting it for that matter, why would you choose a public message board where it’s inevitable.

There’s no democracy without debate and just because you haven’t necessarily contributed to it, it doesn’t mean you haven’t engaged as your tv analogy points out. That’s why I’d never ever discourage people from posting here, and if they don’t want to participate in debating their points that’s also fine but for me it’s part of what makes the board.

Thanks for the debate. Off for lunch.
