Stokes for the McCluskey role

846

Anthony Stokes is in the best form of his Celtic career at the moment, arguably the best form of his life if you overlook his stunning cameo at Falkirk.  It’s hard to know if this is related to no longer being in the shadow of a more favoured son, or if Anthony has just got his ‘stuff’ together, but his intervention was absolutely crucial in our only Champions League win so far.  He had all the wisdom necessary to bate an opponent into a clumsy foul.

The psychology of a three year contract, worth more money, before performance bonuses, than the player will be able to spend is not always a good thing for a footballer, but the competition for a starting berth up front for Celtic is acute.  On the back of his winning goal on Sunday Amido Balde has been talking about his ambitions to secure a regular place, Teemu Pukki is guaranteed nothing while Georgios Samaras has been used regularly as a striker.  Anthony will remain under pressure to perform.

All of this competition will come into sharp focus in Amsterdam next week.  Celtic will come under pressure for most of the game, but this is something they are comfortable with.  We will need someone to exploit the openings Ajax will leave in their defence.  Put your money on Anthony for the George McCluskey role.

If we get to a Scottish Cup semi final there’ll be a lot more than the GB there, regardless of the venue.

  2. ps, forward planning they say,

from mid-march you know who the 4 semi finalists are, so a decision on where to play them can be done there and then.

Also, there are only 4 possible combinations for the final, surely easy to have a plan in each eventuality.

not only corrupt , but useless.

  3. pps,

if i was a far north or east coast fam, i would be saying now, UNFAIR ADVANTAGE TO GLASGOW clubs once again.

If its Partick v Ross County in 1 semi its allmost home advantage.

HT, I admire your away support of the team , every week I read of your commitment to the team and some great observations from the games, i like your style.

now , let me give you a thought.

This is the moment, the chance , for our younger absolutely committed away support to manage a boycott. Calling out the SFA, letting the audience know , we dont support corruption.

    Its perfect.

This is like the Kilmarnock match way back in 94. Hardest match not to go to, but them that stayed away won the day.

I think this opportunity is that big.

  7. Congratulations to Stokesy on his salary increase and elevation to executive class – recognition for a quality player.

Apologies for quick response but need to head out.

I boycotted the Kilmarnock game in ’94, I won’t boycott a semi final that Celtic are playing in this season should we get there.

  12. Its been a breath of fresh air not having to play them…I don’t miss the old firm one bit

It means I never have to see Ranjurz ever again because they are deid, and I will be glad when sevco have been liquidated, just like their bigoted ancestors.

We never needed them, we don’t need them now

  13. I wouldent step feet in that place, one wonders if they have had that asbestos check done yet, and one wonders if they have a safety certificate yet? No work has been done in the place as from what I hear, could be wrong, but builders won’t take a chance on getting money, it’s not worth there business, we are talking about a mob that has previous of non payments, and not so long ago, then again , King David is here, what was I thinking, alls well over there, it’s what they do, pay no one, and blame Craig Whyte.

  14. New poster, long time lurker,re boycott, personally I have boycotted the SFA since spending a horrible season decanted to Hampden while wee Fergus rebuilt Paradise,I was enraged by the rip-off rent we were charged (£500K) and the subsequent Jorge Cadete fiasco this coincided with my self imposed abstention from Ipox after SDM tried to bluff the Bunnet with the vandalised seats con, 1-1(Collins sound of Silence Goal) I joined wee Fergus that day at the reserve game at Celtic Park in the company of 10,000 Timmites.

So I have happily survived without both sets of blazers for nigh on 20 years and feel the better for it !Come and join me!

  15. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Any Celtic supporter who attends any Scottish Cup tie or International match is a supporter of the SFA and all their machinations.

    No ifs, buts or maybes.

Deal with it and make your mark.

  17. Dan Supporting Wee Oscar on

Very perceptive of the SFA to host the semi finals at Ibrox. Obviously they know it will be a neutral venue as a certain team that play their homes games there will already be out! :0)

  18. The financial benefit to sevco for hosting the 2 semis isn’t that great. Say, 60k total attendance for the 2 games @ £25 per head = £1.5m x 20% = £300k.

That amounts to less than 2 weeks’ losses.

I’m not going on principle, if we make the semis, and I’m not too comfortable with having home advantage in the final either. If the final was at the bigot dome, I wouldn’t go. Quandary!

  19. delaneys dunky-to be honest i don’t know.I stood outside for the protest at the Killie game in 94,then i went in to the ground. At that point i separated the board from the team,i supported the team.A decision to be made when/if we get there .HH

  20. Good evening everybody. STV has a video interview with PL. It concerns the shareholder issue. He also states that we may seek to play CL qualifiers in Ireland or England.

So if PL was having a conflict of interest and removed himself from the process, surely CO should have done the same ?

The perfect opportunity to have a highly justifiable, organised unanimous, and achievable boycott.

A scandalous (as if we needed it) indication of propping up Deidco.

Total disgrace, meanwhile the BBC in Scotland questioning the fairness of Celtic getting to the final.

  25. If only Canamalar…

I am inclined to trust PL and the board with regard to the hun licence. It would make no business sense to walk away from millions in compensation. However it is pleasing that the bambots have made the efforts that they have. The board need to be scrutinised further.

Really disappointed in both your posts. It could quite easily be levelled at those who boycott that they are more interested in hurting the SFA than supporting Celtic.

I won’t do that because I genuinely do have sympathy with those who may choose this course of action.

It would be good if you both displayed a similar understanding.

  28. So the great swindle continues.

After a failed attempt to spare them liquidation by granting an invalid UEFA licence the SFA demonstrate their support for newco by guaranteeing the 2 Scottish cup semi finals will be played at the Bigot dome.

No doubt we will be in the SF.

I will not and i urge all Celtic supporters not to attend to demonstrate our disgust at the uneven playing field that exists in Scottish football .

This is the perfect opportunity to highlight our disgust to the whole population and surely must be noticed.

We cannot trust the board to represent us on this matter.

We need to stand up and be counted.

As hard as it will be for us not to be there supporting the team, I feel it is something that must be done !

  29. Paul67 et al

Playing every semi-final at Hampden for the last God knows how many years has been a disgrace. The venue should at least take account of who is going to be playing. Both Tynecastle and Easter Road could host semis, and Murrayfield would add nearly twenty thousand to the final, if Celtic were in it. If quoted directly Peter Lawwell, Celtic bid for the final, which means Rangers Int. did the same for the semi-finals. Was no other ground even considered? Can Edinburgh not host even one semi-final? If I had any doubts as to how Canamalar’s resolution would be treated, then after today’s news from the SFA, I have absolutely no doubts now. Board will simply dismiss it out of hand!
