Anthony Stokes started the season with a flurry, scoring four goals in the first three league games of the season, but he managed just another three goals before the arrival of Leigh Griffiths two weeks ago. He has since scored against Aberdeen in the Cup as well as Sunday’s hat-trick against St Johnstone.
Three goals in 28 appearances is a desolate return for a Celtic striker, especially during a season where the team have been so dominant, and would have contributed to Neil Lennon insisting a striker, capable of scoring regularly in the league, was recruited in January. Managers often talk about needing competition for places, so it’s natural that we should extrapolate from the arrival of Griffiths. While we may see both strikers play together between now and the end of the season I’m not convinced the manager will have this pairing in his mind for next season.
A generous CQN’er, who would like to remain below radar, has offered £1000 sponsorship of the CQteN Dream Team, if 125 people submit a team. The Dream Team is your chance to select your team from those who have played 10 or more games during the CQN decade.
Select 11 players in either a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation; you’ll need a goalkeeper, two full backs, two central defenders, 3 or 4 midfielders and 2 or 3 forwards. You also need to select a manager from the decade.
The team judged as the strongest will be announced at the CQteN St Patrick’s Dinner on 14 March. The event is open to bloggers and lurkers but you can only enter ONCE. Closing date is 3pm, Sunday 9 March. There will be prizes!!
So far around 60 people have entered teams so we have lots to do to hit the £1000 target. For a comprehensive list of players who are eligible for selection, see CRC’s comment here. Email your entry to Doc here, and remember to include a manager: doccqten@gmail.com

free speech or freedom to speak?
Just Shatered,
I drive across Germany several times a year & find the Germans extremely pleasant (of course, I’ve not met all of them): it’s almost as if they’re trying to make up for what some of their forefathers did.
Kojo,
Looking forward to seeing MegaWatt back at Celtic Park next season, I think it has been a shrewd move by Neil and the backroom staff.
Next season, IMO, is looking to be a very progressive one in Europe, IF, we can keep all the best players, although I’m resigned to seeing Fraser leave but he will bring in a hefty transfer fee which will definitely soften the blow. I think Neil probably has an agreement with Fraser so they will already be on the case looking for the next Fraser.
I also liked your analysis about the Green Brigade and the Celtic Hierarchy. A new page. Let’s start again.
I hope Celtic bring in the standing sections, they without doubt, would be the most popular sections in Celtic Park and I’m sure we could increase the total stadium attendance even if it just by a 1000 or 2.

I praised one of your posts last week, but not this time. Do you work for the press by any chance?
There are two sides to the DR, one pro Sevco and one anti Celtic. Does Jack Irvine work for us? Its obvious they sell to the main demographic, hence Celtic negativity and major Sevco news covered up. Neil Lennon’s snarling caption compared to loveable smiling Ally? Sadly punters buy into this hype and trash. I say again, bad for business and downright dangerous for one guy.
Was Fergie wrong to take on certain journos and their rags?
We are a soft touch now. It wouldnt have been suffered by Kelly or Stein.
My friends in Celtic,
I accept that t media age now is a different world from even 10 years ago. It is however a fact that the undoubted advantage of the internet runs concurrently with its dark side.
Trolls, racism, lies, slander etc., etc. are far more common online than in the Press.
The very fact that Celtic still feel it necessary to advertise in the papers and on the radio speaks volumes.
One question : There are still many, predominately the older generation who never use any form of cyber media. How for example do they know if a match has been cancelled or re-scheduled?
HH.
Bada Bing, I’m with you on that. Ban all printed news journo’s from CP and tell them to GTF. Today’s news is global and doesn’t come in a format that my grandad wiped his arse with.
Court the digital media and get proper money if sponsorship. How much money do Celtic earn for advertising the daily hun? Maybe some of these sharp businessmen should start earning their coin and get into the board rooms of the 21st century digital media houses instead of hanging around with near death auld farts like H keevins and his despicable hunnish anti Celtic kind.
FFS, isn’t one of our board members a senior figure in BT, you’d think he’d have a couple of decent contacts on his moby, and a bit of a clue what to do with them.
Kill off the Daily Record, or at the very least use it like my grandfather once did.

GreenPinta, you are quite right.
Everyone who comes on here is savy to electronic media, there are Celtic Supporters who have never heard of CQN, Phil, Paul(RIP), or Charlotte.
These fans still need information about their club.
And it’s not through ignorance, nor laziness, for some it’s a time issue, or access or knowledge.
This will lessen as time passes, not everyone logs on every other night.
But more are and will continue to.
The club has to engage with the old media, for now.

No I do not work for the press, don’t even particularly like them or read them that much.
However that is irrelevant, because many do.
As for Alex Ferguson : IMO, yes he wrong.
Again IMO it was a personal vendetta allegedly over his son the football agent and how dare they go into print.
Remember downright lies can be challenged through the correct channels as Fergus did.

Charliemac you’re the one throwing around the figures. I suppose you want a new manager now!
I want our current manager to demonstrate that he is capable of working within a (for spfl) huge budget to coach/build a team that consistently entertains, wins trophies in Scotland against teams with by far less resources and smaller and much less vocal support than us and brings through the young players provided at great cost from the youth system
And I would like our manager to demonstrate that he understands enough about team shape and tactics to change things when the initial setup is failing
All of the above are positive hopes
I will leave it up to you tou tell me if you think that NFL can satisfy my expectations
C’Mon you Moonhowlers in Green!
Get your CQN Dream Team in…

Kojo,
I reckon Tony himself is now realising things, the move has been excellent for all parties.
He better get used to getting booked though back over here for leaving the pitch when scoring. :(
I think he is a natural goalscorer, at any level. ;)
Doc
I disagree.
I have yet to see the club mention blogs like CQN, they could encourage the support who read and believe the msm, to read blogs like this.
Paul obviously has the ear of the club, it would be in both their best interests to go down this avenue.
In a purely business sence, why would you encourage your customer base to read something that is anti what you are trying to sell them, it just doesn’t make any sence at all.

The club has to engage with the old media, for now.
……………………..
No they don’t Doc. The club recently fired up their stadium wifi network and in my book that was a damp squib. They could have offered all sorts of connections to new media, apps, offers but what do we get? A rolling advert for a printed publication that delights in downing us at every turn.
We don’t need the DR, they’ll use every opportunity to stick the knife into us and have done, why tolerate them further?
New media is the way ahead, but auld duffers like PL and yon lord tory of parkhead don’t seem to grasp that.
They need some computer savvy Celtic minded uber geeks to make use of the networks the auld heids can provide. If we don’t do it the new huns or new new huns will eventually do it before us and show us the way.
CQNers, remember youngsters and siblings, wives and friends can enter CQN Dream Teams.
As our club was formed and remains, all are welcome.

ACGR, I never said the club needed the DR, I said they needed the old media.
They do, thousands of Celtic supporters rely on it for news.
Now I don’t, but may, many do.
Would they disengage with the club if the club banned the DR, specifically, not sure, Id dance. But it’s a reality, we need to encourage adoption of alternatives, Celic directly talking to supporters, electronic media. But there is a large group who listen to phone ins, read red tops, and are influenced by them. Nuts I know, but a reality.
They have to be communicated with.
Just an opinion of course, but one based on going into workplaces around the country where red tops are scattered all over the tea tables and desks.
Remember to get Master ACGR to enter a Dream Team.
Goodnight all, a pleasure as always.

I agree with you on this, hire some young computer savvy whiz kid, a Uni student would do, just to piss off TD >}
But seriously, it’s gone way past the likes of the red tops, they are yesterdays news, jeezo, even I can e mail, cut and paste, managed to suss out getting tele through my phone in the past week.
