Stokes, Griffiths, desolation and competition

1003

Anthony Stokes started the season with a flurry, scoring four goals in the first three league games of the season, but he managed just another three goals before the arrival of Leigh Griffiths two weeks ago.  He has since scored against Aberdeen in the Cup as well as Sunday’s hat-trick against St Johnstone.

Three goals in 28 appearances is a desolate return for a Celtic striker, especially during a season where the team have been so dominant, and would have contributed to Neil Lennon insisting a striker, capable of scoring regularly in the league, was recruited in January.  Managers often talk about needing competition for places, so it’s natural that we should extrapolate from the arrival of Griffiths.  While we may see both strikers play together between now and the end of the season I’m not convinced the manager will have this pairing in his mind for next season.

A generous CQN’er, who would like to remain below radar, has offered £1000 sponsorship of the CQteN Dream Team, if 125 people submit a team.  The Dream Team is your chance to select your team from those who have played 10 or more games during the CQN decade.

Select 11 players in either a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 formation; you’ll need a goalkeeper, two full backs, two central defenders, 3 or 4 midfielders and 2 or 3 forwards.  You also need to select a manager from the decade.

The team judged as the strongest will be announced at the CQteN St Patrick’s Dinner on 14 March.  The event is open to bloggers and lurkers but you can only enter ONCE.  Closing date is 3pm, Sunday 9 March.  There will be prizes!!

So far around 60 people have entered teams so we have lots to do to hit the £1000 target.  For a comprehensive list of players who are eligible for selection, see CRC’s comment here.  Email your entry to Doc here, and remember to include a manager: doccqten@gmail.com

eddieinkirkmichael, my favourite Scottish island is Barra. A beautiful place full of Tims who love a party. Great fishing if that’s your gig and a very interesting little 9 hole golf course. The Castlebay bar is a sight to behold on match day or if there’s a band playing. I saw the Vatersay boys in there years ago and also spent an afternoon watching Celtic cuff the deid huns. What a riot:-)

Plus, five and a half hours on the ferry is a good wee aperitif to the main event. I hope to be heading up there some time in the summer to strangle some trout before young ACGR heads off to Uni. (Don’t tell Tony D my bhoy is going to Uni please:_))

I don’t attack anyone on this site: on the contrary I have been attacked a few times. My wee dig at BMCUW was tongue in cheek as he well. And just asking right of you to ask me to go back to fitba when for the blog been filled all things Russian and Cuba and different shades of political arguments?

I take it Scottish Independence is not in your agenda but others are willing to debate and argue

  4. A couple of typos or auto corrections in that posting.

Tongue in cheek as BMCUW knows.

Interesting chat, although not as interesting to me as the quandary NFL faces re Darnell Fisher.

Here’s a young boy playing as an amateur four years ago who through injuries to players ahead of him is now a first team regular.

Will Celtic offer a contract based on his age and inexperience or will it be based on his handiness during these past three months?

Also, can I put in an alarm call for the next time we vote for a change in reigning monarch? I slept through the last one.

  7. Give me one party, anywhere in the free world, just one that will discuss, not move away from….just discuss….. the possibility that the Free Market Economy is perhaps not the one we should be teaching the next generation of economists to.(that’s the one we have just now, where all the bankers went and got us all messed up, where less than 100 people globally have more wealth than a third of the global population)

It wizny Stalin or the Cubans who made them rich btw

    take your time…..

  8. Monteblanco,

You need to get out more: there are fringe parties in all democracies that advocate moving away from the free market economy (among them are the Front National in France & the genuine Fascist parties). Mainstream parties accept the present system because they know that it’s only the worst except for all the others.

Stalin didn’t make the rich rich, but he did keep his own people dirt poor: the Communist rulers of Cuba have done even better by making the richest country in the Carribean into the poorest in all the Americas (except perhaps Haiti).

We all know that there are great inequalities of wealth in free-economy countries, but free enterprise has raised many millions out of poverty. I don’t believe your “statistic” of 100 people owning 1/3rd of global wealth: do back it up.

  9. replied on next article…do keep up

‘worst except for all the others’ thats it? Thats the best? Says who?
