Strain-related injury, the Belgian travels

327

With Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele both approaching full fitness, the continued absence of Odsonne Edouard for the trip to Lithuania should not be too much of a concern, but the fact that our three strikers have all missed games due to strain-related injuries should give the fitness team matters to consider.

There is no surprise the Belgian will travel for the game against Suduva.  He can make his return to the team far away from all but a few fans.  After this game, the two remaining fixtures before most of Europe’s transfer windows close are at home, to Hamilton and Suduva.  If the result in the away European game goes well, I suspect we might not see much of our World Cup hero.

Every time, the poster has been challenged to prove the allegations.

I’m glad that CHAIRBHOY has found a means to highlight these problems without that.

There will be a gnashing of teeth among the naysayers. I thought CHAIRBHOY presented a concise appraisal of where we are.

What to do about it for the sake of the football on the park is not so straightforward, but change is needed.

  2. Chairbhoy,

A really excellent CQN post, while we all love having somebody to blame, the answers for the club and the team on the park won’t be found there!

I imagine that all the parties will be sitting down sooner rather than later, hard to see where the team on the park goes if we conspire to push Brendan out the door.

Also Brendan is a very sharp guy he will have known the limits and restrictions in place but I’m sure he wasn’t expecting our current situation.

Going to be a long few weeks:((

LImits and restrictions are in place at every club (well , mibbe not down Govan way) but anyhow…..

You do the utmost you can within those limits , but we seem to be guilty of NOT doing all we can to build on the success Brendan has brought to the club.

  4. It’s weird in 10+ years reading the blog (and I’m a total pragmatist/ happy clapper/ board supporter) this is the most disheartened i’ve ever actually been…….and it’s also probably the strongest team/squad (minus CBs obviously) we have had in that period.

I think the reason is from here I actually only seeing us going one way. Next summer there will be serious question marks over Dembele/ Tierney/ Ntcham and Brendan. How many of them will still be with us at the end of August 2019? How will that impact CL qualification next summer (especially now that it is significantly harder to qualify)? In other years I might have thought it’s ok we will maybe sign decent replacements but this transfer window has been the biggest f**k up we ever had (and we had decent money to spend). Doesn’t bode well for the future at all.

ALMORE may well be the man for that. He insisted on the name UNITED IRISHMEN CSC for the club in Dublin.

  6. I see Gordon Stachan has seen that there is a challenge on this year, I hope that view is shared by those that matter within Celtic Football Club, even though I do not agree that it is good for the game here, not the way they have gone about it is not.

If we have bid for McKenna frankly he is a more expensive Henry, it looks like we have zero scouting knowledge available for defensive positions and smacks of arrogance and maybe complacency. Lafferty joining them guarantees them more goals and threat, he will be allowed to rag doll or CH’s, who is up for it among our number.

could not agree more. The huns/smsm are still foaming at the mouth aboutPeter Lawell being on various panels which may influence the running of scottish football. So like the horrible unreedeemable bastards that they are, they try to sow discord and if they are really lucky oust PL from this influential position, which obviously could help celtic try to create a more fairer platform for scottish football.

one step at a time. These SLEEKIT HUNS calling for the head of PL are just that. less than 8 games into season and the dark forces are now worldbeaters with a magical manager (deja vu moment.) There is not a manger in world football who has achieved all his signing targets. ITs football. As for people greeting about Dedryk being called “the belgian”, please, please get a life.

  8. if McKenna is the level of our defensive scouting recommendations then heaven help us , with all our worldwide contacts and that is the best they can come up with then there is definitely trouble ahead.

To clarify. I certainly wasn’t meaning to slight you with my IdealistNaiveCSC comment.

It was more of a self reflection and anticipated criticism of my own belief that a successful (yet still solvent) Football business should have the best team possible as its core business aim.

I know that does make me an idealist in some ways. But as you rightly point out, it can sit comfortably behind good business sense in that putting a good team on the park puts paying punters bums on seats.

That’s how it seems this summer aye, extremely disappointing to see us here a few short months after our second treble:((

I also have a feeling unless we pull a rabbit out of the magic hat that whoever we sign now will be viewed with suspicion and the wound will fester on..

Thursday’s game is the first one I haven’t looked forward to since Brendan came in:((

  11. Scott McKenna? 3.5M? Insane.. so for whole summer they would pahy more than 2M for McGinn a player the manager wanted….now they want to spend money on a completely unproven INJURED CH with experience who played his firat top filght game last season… Wh o is buying the players? WTF does Souting system do?

Time I mailed ALMORE anyway, mate. So I’ll ask him, hopefully he’ll get back to you on here.

  13. Dembele/ Tierney/ Ntcham and Brendan not here next summer? I don’t think they will all be here on 1st sep

  14. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

Our incompetence in the transfer market is so great this window that it almost appears intentional. Of course, I don’t think it is, but it has been so disjointed and disorganised that it certainly puts to bed the “well run club mantra”.

  15. PS evaluation of McKenna…is that the same as Aberdeens evaluation of Ferguson they signed from Hamilton? They have both played the same number of times in PL

  16. IF an its a big IF we go in with another bid for McKenna I think we may offer Hayes as a sweetener. I think he would be happy to go back as he is clearly out of his depth with us. I’m amazed Aberdeen turned down £3.5m though, and more amazed we offered it when another £1m would have secured McGinn???

But what the hell do I know.HH

  17. It seems intentional to weaken squad…and force BR out…as Sherlock Holmes said once you cross out all other reasons the one left, no matter how ludicrous, must be right.. Makes sense since they let Ibrox club into league, call thgem the same club..let them into Europe although they breach rules…

  18. traditionalist88 on

Its great that a Scottish club is in a position to flatly turn down an offer of £3.5m for a footballer.

    We should probably be thankful.

    Unless…

  19. the latest transfer target from the dandy dons has PANIC written all over it, the rumour of RC going to sunderland imo is only to get them into swap deal situation , looks like slippery gerrrd has spooked someone.

  20. I think we’re doing it again here. Who said the bid was £3.5m, the media? Stop dancing to their tune.

Will we never learn por cierto.

There has long been a suspicion that our ambition is merely to be ahead of the huns. How that is achieved has arguably been through lowering the bar to their level.

How to do so without it seeming deliberate, nor incompetent,is truly a work of some genius.

  22. STARRY PLOUGH @ 11:20 AM,

Yes, while it’s all too easy to finger point sometimes poeple are only doing their job.

Yet if we are pulling in opposite directions our objectives or internal communications or both are up the creek.

Hope it’s not a long couple of weeks but suspect you are right…

We can still come out of this window stronger though…

    JAMESGANG @ 11:52 AM,

Yes I knew what you meant was just a wee bit terse with the replies…

We have almost become conditioned to not expecting too much during Windows. A look to see how we are stacking up against the opposition and a bit of tinkering seems as much as we need.

There should definitely be a way of restructuring our business model that allows us to improve on the park and grow off it.

    Hail Hail

  23. On way back from Alcúdia, struggled to find any good Tim shops to watch the matches there to be honest. Reckon with PL’s transfer dealings in this window we could fecking end up with Paul McKenna!!!!!!
