Strikers like Anthony

578

When Anthony Stokes picked himself off the ground having won a penalty yesterday his eagerness for a piece of the action was clear.  Having missed the majority of the season through injury he is a player with a point to prove.

The penalty correctly went to Kris Commons but Anthony still had an opportunity to remind us what a valuable player he can be.  He is not the strongest or most skilful player at the club but he is a natural goal-scorer.

Competition for a place in Celtic’s attack has seldom been more acute.  Lassad, Miku, Samaras, Stokes and Watt are all pressing for a place alongside Gary Hooper.  Each of them will have to consider the possibility of new arrivals in the summer, when securing a place in the squad, never mind the starting line-up, will be a challenge.

Anthony’s return to fitness, and form, is a timely reminder of what he brings to Celtic, and what we have missed once or twice this season.

On Friday 1 March the Lisbon Lions will be at the Kerrydale Suite providing commentary and answering questions on their magnificent European Cup final win in 1967. This has never happened in 46 years since that game, to say it is a unique opportunity fails to tell the whole story.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

    FGF,

the only reason I think he would not know is if he was deliberately kept out the loop for plausible deniability reasond, however I struggle to believe someone in his position would know nothing about it, it would be a sign of weak management.

    you said this

“The Polis gather evidence and help present a case for an alleged offence having taken place”

    thats a very simplistic view.

how much of their evidence is genuine and how much is fabricated to ‘help present a case’

i think the latter applies to many scenarios, not just football fans.

have you never had the thought that the police see their job as getting as many people convicted for as many ‘crimes’ as possible, rather than just getting those guilty of a crime convicted?

  3. Unfortunately a sad situation all round, with no winners

I sit in 113 and enter at the same bit as the GB, so see the

regular hassle they endure, like getting searched 3 times between turnstiles and seat.

I firmly believe however, that it is time for all supporters to take a deep breath, and wait for the official response from Celtic. And there must be one by tomorrow at the latest now.

It is also my belief that we live in one of the most machiavellian nations in western Europe

and would rule nothing out from certain people at Hollyrood or indeed Strathclydes finest,

who will no doubt have their own Tullyallan recruits ensconced in the GB.

If the GB statement is correct then a massive schism will appear, that will take years to heal.

As someone said earlier, communication between both parties is urgently required, and if it does take place then it has to be open and honest, with no political posturing by our club,

and details should be made public via sites like this fine one.

I want to be there next year supporting my team, but have returned home from CP too often angered at what I’ve seen happening to young fans.

My first suggestion to PL would be kindly ask the cops to police outside the stadium, but not inside, and if need be beef up the stewarding inside the ground.

A great display from the Bhoys yesterday, but the shine has faded quickly with this current crucial issue. HH.

  4. This Green Brigade situation is of real interest to most of us and that is why we want to speak of it. It is also a very important issue. Because of that, wouldn`t it be better if we all showed patience and waited to see what the official response is to the GB statement before we angrily threaten to withdraw our support?

as far as i can see, that would be me, but when you see me in the flesh, the one and only dr ramesh, you’ll see i ain’t kojo, ’cause i got mojo, and i ain’t no wally. like collie, or i could just be mistaken, but that happens when one embarks on a psychedelic blues experiment…

“You’ve changed it from sung at CP, to sometimes sung, to sung away from CP, but you haven’t told us what they are therefore you are clearly relying on hearsay evidence.”

It is not a contradiction to say that they are sung and that they are sometimes sung! Other posters told you what the songs were/are. I have never stated that such songs are sung by the entire Celtic Park crowd.

Peterscarff: thanks. I know you did not call me a hun. However you did attribute political views to myself which I would dispute. More importantly they have no relevance to this site.

Zbyszek: nice to see you posting more often again. Guess you were not happy with Zenit’s recent win!

The GB statement makes it clear – Celtic are complicit in the victimisation of us, the support.

I haven’t missed a home game in two seasons but have now come to the conclusion that the only option open to us is a boycott of the next home game against Dundee.

    ………………

Due to This game not being included in my ST package, I feel this would be an appropriate game to boycott.

The attendance for the last league game against Dundee was our lowest for the season.

Good point mate , what annoys me about the boards treatment of the GB is that they have made money off the back of this groups songs / chants /tifos etc while apparently being party to the persecution of the GB.

    Outrageous if true .

  10. On my post on page 1, I asked for a prominent supporter to be appointed as an intermediary.

My suggestion was to use a Church luminary as I believe their is a distinct element of Catholic / Irish persecution at play here.

However, having read his experiences, maybe the intermediary should be Zbyscek. Apologies for the spelling.

  12. I don’t know who is right or wrong between PL and the GB, I know the GB do things the club ask no fans to do, lateral movent, and the whole jumping around, pushing and shoving each other. They look as though they are having great fun and there is never any bother, but, it is against the rules and if the crowd in general were to join in it would cause problems. EUFA have fined the club because of political singing, it doesn’t matter what the subject is, it is political singing that EUFA, and therefore the club don’t want at CP.

Now that’s only part of this, the Focus team are much more serious, they seem to be targeting this group disproportionally, how much is being spent on this.

Now for a team of cops to be funded for such an operation there has to be a political will for this to be so.

Who would give this backing? Answer this question and we get to the crux of the matter for me. This is about “evening” up the crime figures, they want convictions, whether a crime has been committed or not seems incidental. It’s all about how the government want Scotland to be perceived around Europe and further afield.

I know people want to see PL and the club come out and defend the GB, but I don’t think they can until the GB are beyond reproach, at present they are not.

I enjoy the energy the GB bring to Celtic Park, the experience would be less without them, I hope the Green Brigade get clever and give the authorities no excuse to target them.

    Just my thoughts.

And it was great to see Tony Stokes back and scoring yesterday.

  13. The Green Brigade are members of the Celtic family so we should stand shoulder to shoulder with them.

Your post is astute. You correctly identify the desire to incriminate our supporters. Even if the GB do fall-in-line, someone else will be the target. David Prowse got it right earlier.

  16. The GB statement presented their facts. Lawwell has not responded. I don’t trust him on this one.

Its dead simple for me I will not renew my season tickets based on this. Lawwell colluding with Focus to target young Celtic supporters is totally unceeptable.

Paul67 I will not do it in the shadows. I will write to Peter Lawwell with all details and explain why after 40 years of investing in Celtic, I will stop. He has 4 more season tickets to find next season.

  17. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    stringer..,

I’m begining to believe nothing short of the board admitting guilt would satisfy you and many with your outlook and that IMO is exactly what the board want and expect from their loyal customers.

The GB have made many statements over the years keeping us abreast of their tribulations throught both the police and the board, neither have responded to any of these statements as thought it was beneath them, that to me shows contempt and shows an attitude common to both.

I remember p67 explained cognitive dissonance a while ago, I think you might be suffering :o)

  19. First time poster………The Green Brigade do not help themselves by singing Roll of Honour and Boys of the Old Brigade. If I had a pound for every time I had sung an Irish Rebel tune I would be a millionaire but it only gives our enemies ammo when we do it within Celtic Park. Believe me, I work in a Professional office and often have that thrown in my face that ALL YOU LOT SING ARE PRO IRA SONGS. We all know (well most of us, the correct time to sing of our great past and Irish history. There has been a great improvement in my time visiting i.e. we no longer hear the Soldier Song, Sean South and all the other greats belted out with gusyo. BECAUSE IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE WITHIN THE PARK.While I am on, my Dear Dad (who played for the club)r.i.p. detested the well known Hun chant of “Get intae them”. I shiver each and every time the GB sing that…..not “The Celtic way” finally the GB are being treated disgracefully by Facist type policing.

I have been paying attention to both Green Brigade statements, the one before the boycott and from today. If you tell me the date of the first statement I can find my comment with the scenario I predicted. The sad thing is that scenario is happening and it’s dead end street.

You say : “The GB have continually requested meetings with the club and been refused on many occasions, contrary to the GB putting up walls, they have actively sought to negotiate, what they have done here is identify the walls that are being put in their way, blaming the GB is just plain wrong and disingenious.”

Is this last Green Brigade not the confirmation that they have had regular meetings with Peter Lawwell and the club owners? When I read it I was sure it was.

The only blame I give to Green Brigade is that they do it wrong way.

Yesterday I said that if the rules are stupid, people must not stick to them. Green Brigade might have their points but they way they prove them is unacceptable.

You would think after last GB statement that the term of the negotiations between them and the club is :kick Peter Lawwell out of the club first.

P.S. I’m not Peter Lawwell, only teaching his children English grammar.

  26. Much will be made of the GB statement by the press, I like many here have limited info as regards the overall situation, but i would suggest enough is enough, this debacle does the name or credibility of the Club, its Management or its Support any good what so ever, we have posters here tonight on opposite sides of the argument already at each others cyber throats, this has to be brought to a conclusion one way or another, identify a mediator and get it done, whether its in private or in public is irrelevant, we must move forward for the continued good name and hopefully further success of Glasgow Celtic FC and its Support.
