Striking partners, sloppy thinking, define overinvestment

613

It’s difficult to say for sure if Stjarnan are the worst team I’ve seen Celtic play but they are there or there about.  They defended resolutely, have a good goalkeeper and scored a fine goal, but they are no Arbroath.

Ronny will be annoyed at the loss of the early goal.  I always think of San Marino’s opening goal against England on these occasions.  This was back in the 90s, when San Marino weren’t the team they are now (cough).  England took kick off but found themselves a goal down after 7 seconds.  They lost a sloppy goal because they were far too complacent, as did Celtic last night.

One thing which will be clear to all is the focus on goal Leigh Griffiths brought when he came on.  It will be tempting to contrast this to Nadir Ciftci, who looked (and was) less potent, but Leigh’s first sight of goal came as a result of Nadir’s work.  I suspect both benefit from being able to play off a partner.

The passing looked better last night and it was good to see the lungs remained productive until late in the game.  We now have a big week of preparation ahead of the next round.

Delighted to see the Celtic Foundation on the shirts last night, well done to all concerned.  The Foundation should feature more prominently in everything we do (fans and club).  And if you’ve got a pair of trainers, sign up for the Great Scottish Run.

Just caught news of Newco’s £175k bid for Scott Allan.  Define overinvestment, to use local parlance.

jamesgang … how ya doing pal? I know little or nothign about Denayer as a person, but glad to hear that he is a good guy. And now I hope even more that he goes on to do great things.

got to love the strajnan crew …. classy after the game, they crap on the DR, and can have a laugh at themselves. I will be looking out for their results in the future, and hope to see them do well.

Got his pic with my wee Bhoy after his scoring debut.

His demeanour contrasted greatly with a loanee from the same club who arrived with a far bigger reputation but left with the far smaller one.

See you soon. Time to start practising your Weedgie accent. We’ll rip the pi33 out of you if you turn up at cqn corner sounding too much like wee Fergus McCann!

  4. I see we now have a few analyzing their goal last night, and laying blame on various culprits.

The way I saw it,they played a lovely ball up the touchline, their player tried, and managed,a bit luckily to turn it inside to his teamate, who done a lovely little dummy, and scored.Thats it.Happens every game, players score goals. If everyone was perfect what would be the outcome of every game.Would forwards always score,or would defenders always stop them?.

FFS,stop over analyzing everything. Its football played by humans, not programmed robots.

Analyzing. That’s what we do. Before, during and after games. It is part of the fun. Harmless and sometimes interesting.

Sure beats politics and some of the shocking late night hatefests of late……

Who was to blame for the goal against us last night.

One way to look at it would be who made the initial mistake. If CM had crossed the free kick instead of trying to score,I am the hero moment, the continuation of the game would had been different.Just a theory.Just like an accident is a result of an accident, think about it.

Petro head: Alan Stubbs hits out at Rangers as he previews this weekend’s Petrofac Training Cup tie

ALAN STUBBS has taken a swipe at Rangers over their valuation of Scott Allan.

The Hibs boss spoke out after their Championship rivals threw in an offer on Wednesday night for the gifted Easter Road playmaker.

He insisted Rangers can’t think that much of Allan if they’ve offered only £175,000.

In an interview with Sky Sports Stubbs added: “We’ve had a bid from Rangers which has been flatly rejected. I don’t know if they’ll come back in again but we’re not welcoming any bids.

“Our position has not changed since I spoke about it one month ago.

“It (amount) doesn’t say a lot about what Rangers think of the player so that’s probably the best way to put it.

“I haven’t had the chance to talk to him yet but I will do. I’ve got a great relationship with Scotty so I’ll speak to him this morning.

LISTEN to the whole Alan Stubbs interview here.

“He has been kept abreast of everything that has been happening.

“We’ve preparing for the season with Scott.”

Allan has just one year left on his contract but Stubbs added: “As a club we are prepared to let his contract run down so our stance has not changed one bit.

“Scott is a big part of our plans. We’re trying to put together a team to win promotion so why would you want to lose one of your best players.”

Asked what he thought of the timing of the bid, given the two sides meet on Saturday in the Petrofac Training Cup, Stubbs said: “I’m not suprised by the timing but the transfer window is open.”

September is a definite no my friend as I’m going to Spain with the wife at the beginning. August may be a possibility as I’ve not seen her since early June. Lucky man I hear some say ;-)

Old tactic of leaking to the press to unsettle a player.

They really have no shame. Fortunately they have no money either. Nor decent players, nor history.

Celtic return home from an away win in CHAMPIONS league qualifier….leading story in sports news you would think, unfortunately not up here.

First TWO articles were about transfers involving lower league teams.

MurdochauldandHay. We have to take our chances at home and not lose any daft goals and take a good lead over to Baku.If we can do that we have a good chance but if we are wasteful with our chances as we were in the first game against the Icelanders it will be a more than a tricky tie. H.H.
