Striking partners, sloppy thinking, define overinvestment

613

It’s difficult to say for sure if Stjarnan are the worst team I’ve seen Celtic play but they are there or there about.  They defended resolutely, have a good goalkeeper and scored a fine goal, but they are no Arbroath.

Ronny will be annoyed at the loss of the early goal.  I always think of San Marino’s opening goal against England on these occasions.  This was back in the 90s, when San Marino weren’t the team they are now (cough).  England took kick off but found themselves a goal down after 7 seconds.  They lost a sloppy goal because they were far too complacent, as did Celtic last night.

One thing which will be clear to all is the focus on goal Leigh Griffiths brought when he came on.  It will be tempting to contrast this to Nadir Ciftci, who looked (and was) less potent, but Leigh’s first sight of goal came as a result of Nadir’s work.  I suspect both benefit from being able to play off a partner.

The passing looked better last night and it was good to see the lungs remained productive until late in the game.  We now have a big week of preparation ahead of the next round.

Delighted to see the Celtic Foundation on the shirts last night, well done to all concerned.  The Foundation should feature more prominently in everything we do (fans and club).  And if you’ve got a pair of trainers, sign up for the Great Scottish Run.

Just caught news of Newco’s £175k bid for Scott Allan.  Define overinvestment, to use local parlance.

Stop over analysing posts…it’s a blog.

This is our team and if we can’t discuss the circumstances around how we lost a 4th minute goal to part timers in a CL qualifier, then it really must be a political blog dressed up as a Celtic fans website.

  9. So far so good for Celtic, a healthy pre-season and a comfortable victory in the Champions League opener coming with a fair payout from EUFA for the double victory.

there was a nice spread of goals last night, a couple from midfielders, and two shared by a full back and striker and this was the way the team operated last season.

I thought Ciftci did well relying a lot on his sheer physical strength with some clever touches and holding off the robust attention of defenders when in posession a big demand on fitness.

So it,s back on the big stage next week with barely time to draw a breath against real opposition in Quarabag. Probably the usual technical, pacy outfit when Ronny will have to have everyone on their toes. All to look forward to.

I take a sadistic pleasure in forwarding them to different hun mates. So far, every one of them has fallen hook line and sinker.

I expect a reply on this one to mention that he isn’t interested in signing for us no matter what we offer for him.

Fair cheers me up,so it does. And I haven’t explained to them yet that they aren’t genuine…

Damo Lennon. A big decision for Hibernian I think if they dont sell him to The Rangers it wont be worth playing him in a Hibs strip as he will be very unsettled. However, you dont want to sell one of your better player to your rivals.I think the best result for Hibs is to set a price and tell the Ibrokes side it must be paid up front then use the money to strengthen there side.H.H.

Apparently they shelled out £280k and £425k for the duo from Wigan. £175k for Allan is an insult. And I don’t think Petrie reacts well to insults.

  13. Auldh – could work. I’ll take anything that gets us and the rest of the league up to speed before we start Europe.

If I’m honest, it’s a disgrace we haven’t addressed this yet. It’s been about three years now. Must be on the agenda.

Ronnys tactics have came up but I think most people agree 1 up top is our limitation as we are scared to death to concede. Too many times we lose 2 early goals and its good night. I can’t argue too much with 1 up top. Until we have a settled unit it’s what fits best.

If everyone was fit, would we start Commons behind a striker? I think not in Europe yet he is most likely to create something. We are industrious as this will fit best if we make the group stages.

The player was coy when asked whether he was staying at the club by a taxi driver at Hibernian’s East Mains training base, with the 23-year-old replying: “We’ll see what happens.”

BOBBYMURDOCH. Petrie is between a rock and a hard place as the player can wait until January and sign for The Rangers for nothing. So its likely Hibs will sell also in my opinion Allan will be a passenger if Hibs hold on to him.H.H.

JFH … I dont think Hibs will sell unless the zombies meet Petrie’s valuation, or at least come close to it … and I dont think the zombies have the cash …. it will be interesting to see how it goes … I think he would be a big loss to Hibs if he goes, so I hope he stays.

It appears they’ve paid 40% down on the fees you’ve mentioned to Wigan and they are paying the remainder up. Level 5PR would have you believe ole Davie is splashing his small change now prior to the war chest opening. Dream on Sevconians.

Hibs want any monies for players up front. Hibs would deal at around £350,000 I think but DCK may need to flog some of ‘his wine collection’ to land Allan.

  22. Joe Filippis Haircut on

mike in toronto. Do you think if he is forced to stay that Hibernian will get a good season from the player ? H.H.

  23. If allen goes to the huns, Hibs should set the price on what they would get if promoted..whatever that is, he would be a big part of hibs promotion push and if they dont make it, his transfer fee covers the loss…Bad thing is, They dont get promoted Stubbs loses his job..I’d tell him he’s going nowhere…

  25. mike in toronto on

JFH … I haven’t seen much of him, and to be honest, dont know alot about him… and he is a zombie, which is a major character flaw … but, big Stubbs is someone I like and respect as a player and coach …. so, if Stubbs is happy to keep him, then I would expect him to be a good pro … and, for the player’s sake… the better he plays in the first half of the season, the stronger his bargaining position in January when the zombies come calling … so, yeah, I think he would do okay for Hibs

and maybe by xmas, when Hibs are 20 points ahead of the zombies, then they can flog him and get a few pounds for him!

Someone making a massive error, short pass back, giving the ball away stupidly and causing a goal, yes these are bad mistakes, not being beaten by an opponents skill or movement.
