Striking partners, sloppy thinking, define overinvestment

613

It’s difficult to say for sure if Stjarnan are the worst team I’ve seen Celtic play but they are there or there about.  They defended resolutely, have a good goalkeeper and scored a fine goal, but they are no Arbroath.

Ronny will be annoyed at the loss of the early goal.  I always think of San Marino’s opening goal against England on these occasions.  This was back in the 90s, when San Marino weren’t the team they are now (cough).  England took kick off but found themselves a goal down after 7 seconds.  They lost a sloppy goal because they were far too complacent, as did Celtic last night.

One thing which will be clear to all is the focus on goal Leigh Griffiths brought when he came on.  It will be tempting to contrast this to Nadir Ciftci, who looked (and was) less potent, but Leigh’s first sight of goal came as a result of Nadir’s work.  I suspect both benefit from being able to play off a partner.

The passing looked better last night and it was good to see the lungs remained productive until late in the game.  We now have a big week of preparation ahead of the next round.

Delighted to see the Celtic Foundation on the shirts last night, well done to all concerned.  The Foundation should feature more prominently in everything we do (fans and club).  And if you’ve got a pair of trainers, sign up for the Great Scottish Run.

Just caught news of Newco’s £175k bid for Scott Allan.  Define overinvestment, to use local parlance.

  1. I think we should have taken Danny Wilson, who was desperate to sign for us. Of course he wasn’t going to walk into our first team but he could have done a job as a back up and we would have denied them the best “free” player they could get. For the same reason I’d be happy to sign Scott All

JFH …. that got me thinking … could he be the player that puts sevco into administration 2? If not him… then what event will trigger it, and can we have a bit of fund/do some good from it?

we could do a CQN lottery/lucky draw …. sell tickets …. for example …. someone pays $10 for ‘August electricity bill’ … someone ‘buys’ stadium repairs in October’ …. someone else buys ‘lunch next Friday’ ….. and the winner is whoever picks the right event that tips the zombies into administration….

half of the funds go to the winner, and half go to a CQN charity.

    what do you think?

  6. How much extra would Hibs get if they get promoted?

Also. How could Scot Allan ‘jet in’ from Cardonald.?

No Sevco signings according to the daily rags use trains, cars, buses or boats!

  7. Sevco, allegedly, put in an improved bid of 250k for Scott Allan.

Well you may be surprised to know that I dont believe they will go into liquidation some on CQN have been saying they would go bust for the last 2 years and they were still going still spending money.I think they will continue to stumble along and may well be in the mix for promotion at the end of the season.H.H.

Aye,£280k up front is a month’s income. A lot when you don’t have it.

GSL should have invested in Irn-Bru instead of wine,he could have paid a fair whack of that wi the empties.

bgx … 100% right…. there is a zombie in my neighbourhood, and he couldn’t understand why I took such pleasure in seeing them liquidated ….(‘hot good for the game… and ‘we would never want to see Celtic go down ….and would never act like Celtc have … that kind of BS’….

I pointed out to him what SuperFatty had said when Celtic were in trouble… he said it wasn’t true, and when I later showed him the quote, he tried to brush it off …. their level of self-delusion is shocking.

Winning Captains. Do you really believe that the Board at Celtic want to keep The Rangers out of the SPL ? I think they would welcome the income from four games against them each season. H.H.

Scott Allan has nailed his colours to the Mast…never in a million years. Nearly as bad as Novo who was courted by us and oldco. Remember how that turned out! Allan has declared his undying love for sevco, we made an offer now of £500k cash he would do the exact same as Novo.

He is died in the wool. It’s Hibs, Alan Stubbs I feel sorry for as he’ll down tools, to hell with him.

I wouldn’t say Wilson was dying to come to us but we were interested. We opted for Boyata when he decided he wanted to come. Had Boyata said no, Wilson would have been signed.

Money is tight, oldco paid over the odds for Petric just to get one over on us. They also did with Judas.

Not interested in sevco what they do in the transfer market or otherwise, they are a lame duck. Celtic just need to concentrate on bringing in Players we feel can enhance the squad. What we do not need is to sign Players who publicly declare their love for another Club. One who will not be playing in Europe by the time any deal they sign will expire.

    Keep the Faith!

Thanks for the tip on the booking site. My Dad and I are booked for the weekend, hopefully the offer for the first two nights elsewhere still stands or he’s gonna get cold.

  23. I am with Winning Captains on the Scot Allan scenario. If we let the Huns sign him,we are losing out on a very good talent, that could fill the KC role next season.I would class this as a major gaff. For the money,he is an absolute bargain. The boy is a fine footballer.

I really will be gutted if he goes to the Huns.I like watching this boy play football.

  24. My dear Mike in Toronto… with th greatest of respect sevco cannot suffer admin2. They’ve never been in administration.

Allan is a zombie, no way he would sign for Celtic.

But more than that, he disappeared against them in the play off. A true reflection of his ability.

  29. turkeybhoy

Mate, there is no way on this Earth Scott Allan is going to sign for us now, next season or ever. He has nailed his colours to the Mast. He might well be a good Footballer but life goes on. We will sign better Players than Scott Allan.

    Keep the Faith!

  31. mike in toronto on

JFH/BMCUWP … I suspect that JFH is right, and we wont see another liquidation event this season … but, I’d still buy a ticket anyways …. it would drive the zombies apoplectic if they knew we were running a book on when they go bust…. so, even if it never happens, and all of the money goes to charity, it would be money well spent! it goes to charity, and it winds up the zombies… cant do better than that!

Tallybhoy … he put on a good show… and he can still move … and his voice is still good live… worth seeing him if he comes to your town, for sure!
