Strong message from Supporters Association

926

Running late today…….

The Celtic Supporters Association are in their seventh decade so have seen it all before, albeit the matters the felt necessary to comment on today are uncommon in modern times.  After their AGM yesterday they issued the following statement:

“We do not condone in any circumstances the letting off of smoke devices of any kind, the dangers to the health of our supporters should at all times be paramount in everybody’s thoughts. We have quite a number of members who are of the senior variety, and the dangers to anyone with respiratory problems are greatly increased by coming into contact with smoke.

We also do not condone the use of pyrotechnics of any kind; again the dangers to our own supporter’s health should be paramount at all times.

Finally, the deliberate damaging of property within any stadium is not acceptable, and leaves a stain on the great reputation of the Celtic Support. The seats that were broken at Fir Park was blatant vandalism; nothing else.”

I share Association president Joe O’Rourke’s hope that this is a watershed moment for the support, but most of us know at least one person who thrives on chaos and notoriety.   We need as many strong voices to step forward as possible, someone with experience of putting genies back in bottles would be handy too.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Cinc Senti’s auction, which closed yesterday, raising £102 for charity.  More on where the money will be going later in the week……..

“Yes those were the days, when you didn’t reach for your laptop, phone or tablet or whatever to see what you had missed in terms of things Celtic. Those days when, unless you were from east Kilbride, you had no idea what the eather was like there— and to be honest, you had absolutely no interest in finding out!….. Back to the days when you had never heard of Kojo and his way of speaking or writing, when no one had ever Brattbakkedinanager, would recognise a cash strapped scrofulous hillbilly outside Beverley Hills, and the only Battered Bunnet you knew of belonged to your Grandad.”

  1. Personally I don’t give a damn who they were.

As for the ‘innocent’ being blamed.

Did the innocent try to disrupt the vandalism?

Or would they have simply put themselves in danger had they tried to?

    td67,

Thank you. It appears that we are in a minority, but that doesn’t make us wrong.

  3. Quite a lot of the songs at the Milan game were not being started in section 111. However it must never be forgotten that the GB reminded everybody that having a sing-song is part of the fun of going to the games, and not just getting a roll and sausage in.

We may not miss them as much as people think. Particularly if the dispersed can be ‘starters’ rather than just ‘joiners-in’.

I wonder if they’ll be allowed to relocate back to 111 at the start of next season.

  4. Tom said:

“The GB have already admitted it was them. Are you being fooled by the “they were with us but weren’t members” line? If it wasn’t the GB, then why did they say “Sorry. It won’t happen again?”

Yes, I am being fooled . Well, maybe not. Maybe I am choosing to believe these fervent Celtic supporters.

Part 2. Because they are (were) going to take steps to prevent infiltration?

  5. thomthrthim

I agree that the weakness with all the ultra stuff was the “separate development” approach of their section. They had painted themselves into a corner through early insistence on never being seen to compromise or cooperate with the club custodians because they were part of the problem rather than part of the solution. Our club and its custodians are bound by the laws of the land not to delegate policing to a body with no official responsibility.

There was always a dance going on about talking to club representatives but never being seen to agree with them officially. And yet compromises were reached and behaviour was changed without anyone losing face.

A combination of the club being seen as uncaring or complicit in the police persecution of our fans coupled with two major own goals, a political banner at a UEFA game and wanton destruction by hangers on, has made the present position inevitable.

The mood over on the GB site just now is fairly resigned. They know that Friday was a mistake. In time, they me even recognise the error on the timing of the banner at a UEFA match.

Part of the attraction of supporting Celtic was the wit and ingenuity of our supporters. The GB were good examples of that. We lose a lot when we lose them but the reaction was inevitable.

I just hate it when Hugh Keevins ends up looking like the winner.

Embdy see the Eagles/Lions NFL game in Philly at the weekend?

Proper snow , and they played on.

Sadly I expect it would never happen over here.

I watched it. Unbelievable conditions yet it went ahead!

    Great game as well.

A fantastic set of games in the NFL yesterday, but the Patriot’s game topped the lot.

Lesson #1 in life, actions have consequences.

Let’s see how this all pans out.

It’s a shame that the good football the team have been playing will be drowned in a deluge of hunguffery over the next few days and weeks.

Still, supporting Celtic was never meant to be easy.

  9. Big Nan,

    Easier said than done?

    Aye, I suppose.

My vantage point is the comfortable armchair I’m afraid.

There will always be the bams that can’t be controlled especially when strong drink is taken but at the end of the day we are all Celtic supporters – and the bigger picture, and always has been we are much, much better than the Ugly Mob.

I’m fine with a lot of the rhetoric that comes out of the GB – I particularly liked the “wee bit hill…” banner…….But I’d like to think we are all well brought up in the Celtic Family and the aim above all is to keep our reputation of the highest order………as long as this is done -I’m happy

As you say tho, easier said than done.

    HH.

  10. thomthethim for Oscar OK an honest view of Celtic given from the heart is never a minority view.

Our club and its custodians are bound by the laws of the land not to delegate policing to a body with no official responsibility.

This appears to be part of the problem. Despite the high charges levied on clubs for their presence, those with official resposibility seem to be doing nothing.

  12. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

So all the vandals originate from 111?

Not sure how that can be true.

Got a feeling that a load of bam pots have been let off.

Let’s see how the next away game pans out.

  13. On second thoughts, the ban has NOT gone far enough.

What about those louts in the jungle?

What with their buckfast, superlager, electric white, naranjavictorwanyama cigarettes, and some of the most unsavory heckling of opposing professionals in royal blue one has ever heard; damn loutish chavs.

I am of course talking in terms of a decades-previous retrospective ban or 8,000 but one can never be to sure not to catch all the culprits just in case they have managed to breed in the meantime and passed on their antisocial faithful Celtic affliction to their offspring.

Make that a generational-retrospective ‘jungle’ banning order.

Don’t want to spoil the ambitions of maintaining a civilized atmosphere at the new Celtic Soccer Franchise Stadium do we?

Don’t want those sophisticats in the SMSM having a bad word to say or write about our unfortunately rowdy element at the back of the bus…

Section 111 disbanded (again). Gutter media and hun “authorities” mission hysteria, camouflage and deflect accomplished.

All the while the sleekit undead lurch toward their first “game” with us. Should that indeed happen, the games a bogey for me.

So quick to praise our board for decisive action against Celtic fans.

The MSM have scored another victory in the campaign to undermine and destroy our club abetted by our own custodians.

The assault on our club has been constant and the selective vision and hearing of the msm will continue until someone at Celtic grows a pair and stands up for us.

Are some supporters culpable for the Motherwell debacle? Absolutely.

Is the clubs response disproportionate ? Absolutely.

Where was the clubs response to the msm’s and football authorities silence on the vandalism and illegal songs by the Huns support on numerous occasions ?

Their silence makes them a willing partner on these bigots assaults on our club and support.

  20. Anyone know when the PLC’s own inspired creation, the Celtic Choir section, starts singing? Will it be non-denominational Christmas carols that don’t offend either the rich or the underclass? Still on dodgy territory with the latter.

This is a dark, sinister day for what was once our club.

You need only look at the way the TonyDonnellys of this site get away with spouting utter moronic sycophantic pro board nonsense, with arrogance and gloating, to see where it’s all going.

    Totally depressing.

‘So the whole class’ © thomthethim gets kept behind.

  22. POLITICS………

The 80% are going bust again

The 18% are going from strength to strength

The result is social tension and disaffection because the “natural order” of things is not being observed.

The GB, migrants, interlopers et al do not help our cause in any way…..they’re a hindrance and have to go, its not complicated.

A dedicated standing area allocated for say 500 pax to make as much noise and display whatever graffiti they choose………complying with current legal requirements.

    FOOTBALL…….

We haven’t played with the pace, power and precision of the last week for years IMO I think NFL has finally cottoned on to a system that delivers.

He needs to see how many on the books can play that system and ship out those who can’t. Those he brings in will play the system at ever higher levels and tempo until we get where we want to be.

Pace and guile from the middle to the front and we are there…….this is the bit that costs the money.

“Projects” should cost no more than a couple of 100K like the Icelandic kid…….the real money should be consolidated and quality purchased.

As an example………Ronaldo was was purchased for for 12M by MU as an 18 year old in 2003.

I suggest that there lies a proper project…….we need to be paying 10M+ for 18 year olds to get anywhere near that level potential quality???

I agree, but that only underlines my view that the concept, or Mission Statement of the GB was fatally flawed since it’s inception.

No club can tolerate a faction who are not prepared to abide by the laws of (a) the land, or ( b) the club.

Certainly not a club who tries to themselves operate within those boundaries.

There can only be one Celtic.
