“We started the game brilliantly, we could have been two goals up and from that we concede a counter-attack goal.
“It would have been easy to feel sorry for ourselves. But we continue to play the same way, whether we’re 1-0 up or 1-0 down. Even at 3-2, it would have been easy to get nervous.
“However, the players picked themselves up and we scored a wonderful fourth goal.”
Danny Ward gave the visitors the lead, but that was nullified by a great strike from Scotland international Craig Conway. Marvin Emnes, Ben Marshall and Sam Gallagher added others with Ward again replying for the Millers.
One point of interest for Celtic fans is that only the on-loan Scott Allan was involved in this match from the four recent departures from Celtic Park. There was no sign of Stokes or Mulgrew in the Blackburn squad and Darnell Fisher wasn’t included in Stubbs’ selection. Allan was substituted early in the second half.
Stubbs shouldn’t have been too surprised, though. Rotherham have lost 13 of their last 15 league visits and their last win at Ewood Park was in September 1979.
It all looks a long way from the Scottish Cup euphoria for Stubbs back in May when his Hibernain side came back from 2-1 to score twice in the closing minutes to secure a historic cup win for the Easter Road side and deny the 4 year old Ibrox side their first ever major honour.
