Stunning endeavours on the Ben

614

Absolutely stunning tales of endeavour from those who climbed the tallest peak on these isles yesterday for the Ben Nevis Huddle to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation.  The Foundation anchors our club to its founding principles, working locally and worldwide towards four goals:

Improve Health
Promote Equality
Encourage Learning

Tackle Poverty

It survives because lots of ordinary Celtic fans step forward, or put their hands in their pockets, because they believe Celtic is a lofty and noble cause.

If you’ve not been able to support any of the climbers direct, inspiration for the event is primarily the responsibility of Mark Cameron, you can find his Foundation linked MyDonate page here.

If you’re in business check out The Celtic Network’s new Service Finder’s opportunity to market to Celtic fans.

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his book, All the Best.

Samaras efforts in Europe ,which made record sums of money for the club,is worth the same money as our highest earner IMO,all water under the bridge, good luck to the big man.

In pub,in SM magazine it says BBC1………..I think they’ve been wrong before

So the pub, if they had listened to you, would have been watching ‘Escape to the Country’ if it had been left to you!

Cannae see the magazine excuse as being readily accepted, somehow!

    Just my thoughts.

Maybe we offered him a big fat zero, because he was out of contract and felt it was time to move on.

I think we probably were just too far apart and didn’t get close, hence his soundbites that he was offered – nada.

Damned if we do damned if we don’t, and I doubt that there has ever been a such a Celtic player whose capabilities were so diametrically viewed or argued over in the pub.

Whatever your views, his are that Celtic made him the player he is today,

I don’t have any lingering Samaras disagreements with our club, but might review that when we see the type of player and wages paid to Ronny Deila’s Celtic squad.

Brad Friedal giving Hugh Dallas a dig for “missing” crucial decisions against USA v Germany in previous WC.

Well done to the Celtic Foundation and those who actively support their efforts in reclaiming the Celtic ethos, which was diluted through most of the last century.

    More than a club, indeed.

I’m such an expert on watching this WC on tv that, having had to put on delay tv to give my wife a lift to her sister’s, I came back in, started watching the rest of Brazil v Mexico, and then, getting caught up in the excitement as the penalties were about to start, didn’t realise that I still had the remote in my hand, and somehow switched channels which takes you to live tv, meaning I missed them all!

She finds it pretty funny, apparently.

    Sammi divides fan opinion

Some will be glad to see him go …IMO no asset management potential and an expensive luxury which we are not prepared to pay for

I am a fan and unhappy at his departure ….and generally unhappy at the reduction in the quality of our squad

We have no CL class attackers …worrying times with qualification looming

  10. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Leftclick, Biton’s pass to Lustig to set up Joe’s goal v Hearts at Tynecastle is an example of what I like about him. No fuss pass played at the right time with the correct pace out to a free player.

I can’t remember which home game it was last season, Nir collected the ball then swilvelled and played a great pass through the middle but either Stokesy or Leigh miscontrolled it.

Good passrs need runners or other with good positional play to really shine. This was a real drawback for the Maestro at times. Some of the payers around him from 1989 on were not the best we have had and his full range of passing was restricted as he had few players making the move into space for him to pass to.

  11. Has anyone had a look at the pre season friendlies and travelling that will be involved? With a new manager on board, a weakened squad and CL qualifiers in between jaunts to Austria and back and forward to Germany and Finland, has the board given up on qualification this year?

  12. Dallas dallas,

You’re, of course, only too right about those around Paul McStay failing to move into space to receive his passes. Sad to say, there are still too many at Celtic Park who do not move. Johansen is one the exceptions. Testament to our new manager?? I hope so. Sammi, imo, would have been been seen as a far better player by Celtic supporters if there had been others in the Hoops, like the Greek forwards, to feed off him. I do agree too that Biton looks the part.

Tony Watt will be interesting to see this season. Will he knuckle under and develop his talent? Hope so.

  13. Glad to see some supporters of Biton on today.I think this boy could turn out to be our best buy.The anchor in midfield.Great vision, very like Naka,in the fact a 3-4 yard pass can be just as deadly as a 30 yard. All about space.I really like this kid.

I agree James Forrest is the best option we have on the wing.Could be our ace in the qualifiers if he is fit.

42 degrees here today,so off out tonight to eat on the beach.Trials and tribulations.

  14. Pfayr

Agree regarding our attackers . But other than that I am quite happy with the state of our squad. A couple of quality additions and we will be fine imho.

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Parkhead, Paul was a fantastic player in not so good teams but out of this world when he had players on a similar wavelength as him. The Centenary season was probably his best because he had footballers with movement, McAvennie, Tommy, Billy Stark, Chris Morris and Anton moving forward and even though I don’t respect him much these days, Andy Walker.

I keep on harping back to the 76/77 season but when big Jock brought in Alfie Conn it was to help Kenny, Danny & Pat Stanton as he was on a similar wavelength to them.

You are right about Johansen, he very rarely stops moving and I hope this is a good sign regarding Ronnie’s playing style. Good movement can help in breaking down ten man defences if the opposition can be dragged out of position.
