Five years ago when CQN’er Kano was confined to hospital with a debilitating illness Pablophanque was first to issue the call, “We need to raise the money to bring Kano home”. In the weeks which followed the Bring Martin Home campaign launched. The campaign succeeded and then some; the Kano Foundation is its lasting legacy.
While working in Holland in May 2011 Pablophanque took ill suddenly and died a few days later, leaving two young-adult children to deal with matters a long way from home. As the news filtered through of his death, the call went out in the comments section here to raise money to bring his remains home. One day later Pablo’s son was told the money was there and to confirm arrangements.
Pablo’s estate has recently been settled and his son and daughter wanted to repay the generosity shown to them when they needed it most. Mary’s Meals are now in receipt of £4500 from them towards our CQteN Malawi School Kitchen Appeal. It is an enormous gesture by two young people and shows the level of appreciation they have to those who helped them in 2011.
Raising money is hard and I remember telling Pablo his idea was ambitious, to say the least. There has never been a spontaneous movement like Bring Martin Home and the Kano Foundation. Many of those who made the call for Pablo were inspired by Bring Martin Home. The cumulative impact of this generosity is quite stunning.
My thanks to Pablo’s son, daughter and brother for this fantastic support, inspired, as it was, by the wider Celtic community. I never use the ‘Greatest fans in the world’ line, largely as I don’t think there is much competition, but the Celtic support are among the finest human beings you could hope to meet.
Thanks also to everyone who booked a seat or table for the CQteN St Patrick’s Day Party at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 14 March, where we hoped to raise the bulk of the money for the school kitchen. If you want know what it’s all about, read Friday’s article.

Paul67 –
A wonderful gesture by Pablo’s son, daughter and brother.
Well done to them!
Will he or any of the others be able to offload their penny shares before the AGM?
Swansea get Napoli in the Europa League. Spurs get Dinipro.
Heard we are signing a young CB fae Hamilton next month for around 50k.
At this time of year it is great to be reminded of the depths of the bonds that unite us, of the kindness and generosity that exists in our hearts. Celtic means many things to many people, when support is shown in acts of love and kindness, thatt is when the Club means the most to me.

Another wee uplifter to erase the doom!! :-)
What a fantastic gesture, it’s easy to forget the good that people do for you. Pablo’s family are clearly of good Celtic stock.
Great article and nice wee lift in an otherwise depressing week for the support.
Great gesture

Charity, in the name of pablophanque..superb.. Celtic a club , founded on charity , still going strong.
Well done all
Really touching gesture by Pablo’s children, they are a credit to his memory, may he rest in piece.
On the subject of Celtic’s spending or lack of it, have we even got round to spending the Petrov or Mc Geady money?? Let alone talking about Hooper, Vic ,Wilson etc cash,
I know money doesn’t guarantee success but I would rather spend 5-7 million on Finbogasson who is still banging the goals in on the dutch league ( Far better standard than SPFL) than Pukki and Balde combined, lets be honest both these guys didn’t come with reputations for hitting the goal trail!! Tells you everything about the situation when Lennon was left desperate on the last day trying to push through the Tomlin deal!!

Re McCoist’s “side step”:
Perhaps it is his “So long and thanks for the fish” moment assuming he has read Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy and does not associate fish with any Tim Friday tradition.
He knows the belt will be tightened, so need I say more?
I’m not sure his belt could be any tighter than it currently is. Could it??!

Heartwarming article terrific gesture to give the donation to the charity.

Lots of sympathy around re spending money on players, good money, who almost from first sight never look like making it – particularly forwards. Very disheartening.
On the other hand…Wanyama, Hooper, Ki, VVD, FF etc. Most of us never heard of them…
Guess in the financial range the club has decided to shop in (and that’s a separate issue) there will be hits and misses. I still harbour hopes for Baldie. When he’s played he’s either scored or seriously threatened to score. Pukki needs to show more, much less confidence about him.
The hesitation about signing from S Premiership….although they can see the targets week in and out I’d suggest there is a doubt about judging when the opposition is often weak. Perhaps players showing up well when they play us is a better indicator. From memory don’t remember Johnny R being prominent against Celtic. That said I think I would have gone for him at the price. If/once the like of DU, Aberdeen and maybe Hibs can create clear water from the rest and really push on and maybe get into the Europa proper it would be clearer to judge?
I think this also applies to our younger players…the test at youth level is not high enough which is why the Next Gen & YCL is so good for us.
The other thing is foreign leagues will almost always be judged stronger than the SP. If for example, Pukki was judged good enough for a punt in the Bundesl then that maybe sets a kind of standard? Evidence proves this judgement has its flaws…Loovens, Derk (probably) etc. But it is still not unreasonable to make the judgement.
As far as ST prices are concerned, I don’t much care since without it I would have to have given mine up after being in with the first batch when Fergus got Rod to open the new N Stand! I’m happy to believe the board did feel that the fans were entitled to something back while also being aware of the lower take up in the previous couple of years.
In the short term I want us in the CL annually and into the last 16. Beyond that I’d aim to WIN a group which to me would outstrip anything so far no matter what then followed in the last 16!

Whats the story with this? Is it genuine?
That is just a breathtaking piece of generosity. I have met Steve’s brother and his children. I did not imagine them to be incredibly well off. a sum of that magnitude is a huge sacrifice to them.
There is a light that shines within some people

Great gesture….. truly uplifting.

Campbell Ogilvie gets into a taxi and he sees the driver looking at him in the rear view mirror.
After about 5 minutes the driver says “OK give me a clue”
Ogilvie says “I was a director at Rangers, then Hearts, now I’m the president of the SFA – is that enough ?”
Driver replies “No you plank, where do you want to go ?”

How do you measure wealth? Fancy clothes and wristwatch?? nice car and house?? Sad to see your a fella who makes judgements on people after meeting them and draws conclusions …….Health is wealth, Money is just a number!!
I will always remember steves service
The night before it I had looked out my suit shirt and tie to pay my respects to a great man I was proud to have been friends with
Then I get a message saying Jonathan would like us to wear celtic tops in steves honour
So next morning I leave home with my suit and hoops on. .. bumping into a neighbour who gave me a look ;)
Myself and Estadio National arrived at the crem and stood in the car park talking to a few others as they congregated all decked in green and white.
A load of post office vehicles started to arrive at the same time… their drivers dressed in post office uniforms and giving us jungle jims a weird look.
I could just imagine pablo laughing away :)
Fantastic gesture from the reynolds family. .. brings a tear to my eye
any mention of wee davie in the run-up to the annual Edmiston heist……?
A newly deceased tim goes up tae the pearly gates and as he stands outside looking in thru the clouds and angels he can lots of clock and wonders what is going on.
St Peter arrives to meet the newly deceased, “How can I help you” says St Peter,
“Well I was wondering what all the clocks were about” said the tim
St Peter Explained, “well you see my son we have a clock for every person on Earth and every time you tell a lie the clock moves a minute. See that Clock over there? That’s Mother Theresa’s Clock it has never budged one single time, see that other clock next to it? Well that’s George Washington’s clock, hardly moved either. And that clock over there, that was John Paul the seconds clock, barely ever moved”
“Oh fascinating’ said the tim, “so what about the ceiling fan, what’s the story behind that”
St Peter replied, “that’s no ceiling fan my son, that’s Keith Jacksons clock, now come on in….”
