Sturgeon’s unsubstantiated innuendo against Celtic

370

Nicola Sturgeon, used her PR stage yesterday to posing a question implying Celtic were actively breaking Covid rules, which is clearly untrue.  The First Minister said:

“I have also seen some photographs, and I don’t know the full circumstances, that would raise a question in my mind about whether all the rules elite players have to follow in their bubble around social distancing are being complied with.”

This is a rhetorical device of those practised at manipulation.  Throw in an “I don’t know”, which technically negates what follows, but allows you to make any unsubstantiated allegations, even those you highly suspect to be untrue.

She has responsibility to set the rules and ensure they are monitored.  If she is unhappy with the rules she sets, she should own that responsibility.

This crisis is not a game.  Our First Minister used her position yesterday to throw unsubstantiated innuendo in the direction of Celtic.  Our political leaders need to be responsible when they make unsubstantiated comments THEY KNOW will stir up anger and resentment against a club who only hours earlier complained at not being protected from sectarian crime.  Cut the innuendo crap and find a better government that Boris Johnston’s to shadow, pretty much the entire planet is outperforming them both.

She is a clever politician who knows what she is doing and is taking us for fools.  I have no doubt how this played in the demographic she was aiming for.

    Enjoyed this article Paul.

No harm, in smart, calm guys showing a flash of anger once in a while.

    (Take note Celtic Board)

Also enjoyed your article a while back about UEFA Financial Fair Play regs and how they would impact certain clubs.

Number of concerns raised today about the extent to which Celtic attract bad press.

Respectfully I have a solution which is guaranteed to be the ONLY way to put a stop to this ….

    …. but it’s slightly radical ?

I think you’re playing games here. Andy Murray hasn’t had families of 4 paying over £2000 to watch him on the telly.

You know fine well that the issue here is not whether Celtic (pause for holier than thou intake of breath) ‘have broken any rule’.

They said in November they were going to Dubai. Unless you’ve been living on the moon or a moon howling COVID denier then you know the situation has deteriorated.

    Celtic’s position is

We said in November we were going and nobody said to us any time afterwards we shouldn’t.

It’s disingenuous and snidey. It’s also gobsmackingly shortsighted and leaves our behinds out the windae.

Someone should’ve had the nous or wit to take a tumble to themselves and asked the question whether the trip should go ahead.

And before you ask – yes, I have abided to the letter with every restriction imposed.

I haven’t been in a pub since March. I haven’t contravened family meeting guidelines either.

Manager and Captain sitting by the pool drinking, no mask and not distancing is a rule breach in terms of the rules which have been set out for elite sports.

I don’t have a problem with sitting by the pool or having a beer but if you look at the rules then they have been broken by failing to distance.

  4. I listened to an short extract from Trump outside the White House a minute ago, this guy is going to cause a meltdown in America he is totally unaccepting of the results of the election and continues to allege fraud , is this guy sane, I am all for free speech but he is stirring up people I really hope they do not react.

I think you are right about wolves and our floodlights. Must have been in an away game, possibly on the 1951 tour of USA or a friendly v an English club but no idea about friendlies played before I was born.

Had it been Sevco in Dubai would we have had all this fuss? No way – we need to stand up for our own.

The ‘rules’ refer to ‘competition venues’ and ‘event environments’.

No mention of sitting on sun loungers around a pool after a training session. Bad optics, no doubt. But transmission risk? Vanishingly small.

Ah! that old trick- {I am forwarding a perfectly sincere and rational argument whereas your views can be denounced or diminished as “playing games”}. How about we deal with this as adults and I will take your argument at face value and you accept the words I am using as sincerely intending to reflect my views.

Celtic supporters pay whatever sum they pay in order to attend home league matches and nothing more. In that regard they have as much AND as little right as Scottish tennis supporters have to denounce Andy Murray’s legal activity.

You know fine well that the issue here is not whether Celtic (pause for holier than thou intake of breath) ‘have broken any rule’.

They said in November they were going to Dubai. Unless you’ve been living on the moon or a moon howling COVID denier then you know the situation has deteriorated.

In November we were well into a deteriorating phase of the Covid pandemic. In fact the Scottish Government (pause for intake of holier than thou breath) relaxed the lockdown restrictions at the height of the deterioration so we could all spread a bit more Covid at Christmas.

At no point in this cycle, when they imposed original strong lockdown measures, or when they relaxed them, or when they locked down on them again, did they think twice of revoking permission for elite sport warm weather training (they still won’t after putting celtic in the dog pound for it), or cancelling air travel to countries like Dubai that were not in the highest risk areas, or of curtailing foreign or business travel or political jaunts.

Rest assured if Brussels issues an invite to come and make Scotland’s case, she’ll be on the first Air Scotia flight to somewhere vaguely like Belgium. She might even have a wee glass of white wine with her evening meal with Frau Merkel or Monsieur Barnier or Ursula von der Leyden.

Anybody outraged at Celtic’s winter trip who never expressed outrage in November or December or early January is guilty of hypocrisy or after-the-fact outrage which they carefully left unexpresed when they knew about it.

oh! and congrats on fully obeying all rules. Even Nicola has not reached those high standards, at least , in regards to face mask protocols. That picture (taken by a wee sneak according to all SNO die hards) made her look bad bit not bad enough to lead to a call to shut down Political Activity, eh?

Can thank lockdown for that. Saw an episode of “the big match revisited” recently and one of the games featured Doncaster rovers when billy was playing for them.

you are correct, somewhere in that mishmash there was a post. Basically I agreed with Celtic players having a pint in Dubai prior to intensive 5 day workout.

Some of thes guys have been under pressure for 4 years to deliver 12 trophies out of 12 and delivered that a few weeks ago. Enjoy your pint.

Travel was approved by the Scottish government so they should have no complaints. I am sure the players were in their Covid-19 bubble unlike the hoards who were allowed to gather outside the Toilet in Edmonston Drive and give racist abuse to the Celtic players prior to the game.

    Great post!

  18. As so many are playing politics and not talking about Celtic, I thought I would add my bit. Ever since my ancestor escape from the Williamites after the Siege Of Derry and escaped into Donegal to the Greencastle area, my family have been fishermen. As a youngster well over seventy years ago I heard talk of Rockall from my uncles and men around the village. They have fished there for centuries. Now the Brits tell them they have no right to fish there, The Brits claim it is theirs even though three other nations have equally good claims.

Why do the Brits want a rock hundreds of miles away because they think there might be oil there. In the meantime, men whose families have fished there for centuries are warned off. I know the McClenaghan families , indeed my mother stayed with a family who were possibly the great grandparents of the skipper of the Northern Celt when she holiday there and met my father.

Just thought I would change the mood a little.

I took your Andy Murray reference as a bit of a distraction to the presenting Celtic situation which is why I challenged it.

I disagreed with the proposed easing of restrictions at Christmas but can’t recall if I did so on here. From your comments earlier today I am aware you’ll not accept this and that this makes me a hypocrite.

You are clearly someone who clearly likes to pride themselves in your ability to debate your case. I think your comments re: NS is a case of playing the ball, not the woman.
