Subjective ethics from some in Scottish football

316

What grates with me is that the issue on how to end the Scottish league season is portrayed as an ethical question.  If so, ethics are remarkably subjective.

How would I feel if Newco had not imploded (more on that if/when the time comes) so magnificently in the weeks?  Pretty upset that they because of the slimmest of leads, they were able to ‘Stop the Nine’ without Celtic having a chance to turn things around.  A cherished piece of our narrative over these last nine years would have vanished into thin air.

Conversely, what would Douglas Park have to say on the matter, if Steve Gerrard was able to cope with the likes of Hamilton Accies at home, would he be campaigning for the season to become null and void?  Don’t be ridiculous.  They would rename one side of the ground the 2020 Stand.

Anyone who claims they would not advocate the exact opposite view, if their team was due to win/lose a league instead of lose/win is a liar or a self-deceiving fool.  This is not an ethical question and anyone who suggests it is, is being unethical.  It is a pragmatic question:

Will this make you a winner or a loser?
Does this make sense for Scottish football as a whole?

The winners and those without any skin in the game voted Yes.  Only losers voted No.  If Celtic were behind Newco I would want the league null and void to allow us to win nine-in-a-row next season, for purely selfish reasons, not because a moral authority understood it to be right.

Talking about ethics, respect to Roma players, who have agreed to take no pay for four months, while making up shortfalls in non-player wages from their own pockets.  Off the scale ethical standards.  More on this, and Celtic player and executive pay cuts, later.  Many clubs will fall during the crisis, Roma won’t be one of them.

It’s no different than most clothing coming from Bangladesh etc. The consumer demands cheap – hopefully when this is over people will see the real cost of relying on the current supply chain.

    Yes.

    Don`t buy Chinese .

Because in doing so , you are subsidising totalitarianism .

  2. Wtf are you subsidising when you buy made in USA or Australian?

2 of the most bigoted states on earth.

    Still in Wuhan ?

Ok thanks and the same to you.

It will take time to turn things around, but I agree it has to change.

India is trying to break into the medicines market and they already have a fair chunk of it, but again the west are relying on others, but as ever it comes down to the money,

I hope you are right, but i have my doubts.

I remember my boss saying to me about 15 to twenty years ago that Canadian Tire buyers were told that every product if possible had to be brought in from China. Yes Canadian Tire.

I sense a dramatic change in the world order .

    ( Pretentious or what ? )

The relying on ‘ others ‘ to supply our ” basics ” must change.

    And it will.

We rely on China to deliver our protection against a Chinese product ?

    Surreal doesn`t cover it .

Now it gets political , but I have supreme confidence that our protectors against Chinese global militaristic expansionism and dominance will stand up and be counted.

    They better .

Hail Hail , my fellow TIM .

  9. Mackay he’s fine thanks. Now can you answer my point? We subsidise bigotry buying American or Australian.

Anyway, Chinese copies are better than American/Australian copies.

“A classification is exactly that , they don’t classify it as a major problem, the status would also be changed if they now thought that it was a problem, they obviously don’t as papers are being produced on a daily basis.

But don’t let the facts get in the way.”

    —————————————————————

The facts don’t get in the way. They downgraded the risk in March. That was a mistake as subsequent events showed. They rectified that mistake quickly and instituted the lockdown, raising the status of the threat.

Believing one or other version of events re flu/Covid19 comparisons is bedevilled by a whole host of unknowns. I’ll take my lead from those informed and peer reviewed sources again, because, when they have made errors as subsequent trends and stats undermine their predictions, they change their tack to fit the now dominant position. In short, they admit when tey were wrong (not the politicians obviously).

They do not explain it away by saying, “you thought it was low risk then so it must or might still be low risk”. For every death misdiagnosed as being due to COVID 19 I can cite 5 times the number of unreasonably high seasonal care home deaths as being under recorded.

The fear that this is some kind of fascist power grab to reduce civil liberties can and will be proved wrong once the World democracies decide to ease lockdown measures gradually. I’m not saying we will go quickly back to “as was” but the biggest diference we will notice will not be the pretty minor inconveniences of restricted size gathering or social distancing being maintained, it will be in the economic depression and austerity that will surely follow this unprecedented economic hiatus.

We are far from over the worst of this. A second wave of , as yet, unknown proportions has still to hit us. People in our age group are going to have to be very vigilant and careful not to join in the flow of all post-lockdown activities.

Until the disease structure is better known and vaccine measures are found and rigorously tested, we will suffer some minor inconveniences but we need not be so eager to prove ourselves right here. Promoting higher infection rates, overtly or through omission, means you harm more than yourself. I would happily just let the “South Will Rise Again” MAGA right-to arm-Bears lot get on with infecting each other if I thought it could be done without it being equally damaging to the co-workers, friends and innocent bystanders with whom they come in contact.

As far as this disease is concerned, We Are All In It Together.

  11. MacJay

I also sense a change in the world order, but we are gonna have to agree to disagree on the governments protecting us from the Chinese, I have a horrible feeling that the west are going down the self same route, from what I see it’s all pointing in that direction.

  14. Pog @ 2:01 completely agree had to laugh at the number of broadcasting hours and newsprint that was wasted wondering when FIFA. UEFA or various FA’s will restart football. Governments and only GOVERNMENTS will make that decision. UEFA et al wil ldecide when the leagues cups etc will end. Stay safe everyone Hail Hail Hebcelt

I said that it was my last on it, why cos it’s pointless as you well know, we are miles apart.

Google Dr Andrew Kaufman for info on viruses, he is on youtube just now, but will prob get pulled soon, then again it’s pointless cos you won’t believe him.

Look up Dr Sheri Tenpenny for vaccines, nor will you believe this Dr cos of where you are coming from.

I believe these people before those who are scared to speak out against the establishment, these Drs and many others are now starting to speak out, even the msm are starting to question things.

It’s amazing how folks pick and choose what they believe from the msm, when the facts tell you that 99.63% of people who get the virus survive, that’s huge.

    Def my last on it, my head is sore enough, that wall is rather hard ‘>}
