Subjective ethics from some in Scottish football

316

What grates with me is that the issue on how to end the Scottish league season is portrayed as an ethical question.  If so, ethics are remarkably subjective.

How would I feel if Newco had not imploded (more on that if/when the time comes) so magnificently in the weeks?  Pretty upset that they because of the slimmest of leads, they were able to ‘Stop the Nine’ without Celtic having a chance to turn things around.  A cherished piece of our narrative over these last nine years would have vanished into thin air.

Conversely, what would Douglas Park have to say on the matter, if Steve Gerrard was able to cope with the likes of Hamilton Accies at home, would he be campaigning for the season to become null and void?  Don’t be ridiculous.  They would rename one side of the ground the 2020 Stand.

Anyone who claims they would not advocate the exact opposite view, if their team was due to win/lose a league instead of lose/win is a liar or a self-deceiving fool.  This is not an ethical question and anyone who suggests it is, is being unethical.  It is a pragmatic question:

Will this make you a winner or a loser?
Does this make sense for Scottish football as a whole?

The winners and those without any skin in the game voted Yes.  Only losers voted No.  If Celtic were behind Newco I would want the league null and void to allow us to win nine-in-a-row next season, for purely selfish reasons, not because a moral authority understood it to be right.

Talking about ethics, respect to Roma players, who have agreed to take no pay for four months, while making up shortfalls in non-player wages from their own pockets.  Off the scale ethical standards.  More on this, and Celtic player and executive pay cuts, later.  Many clubs will fall during the crisis, Roma won’t be one of them.

    TET,

there are more examples then one ship, there are battleships also suffering but the point is your denial of what is very evident in a controlled spaces, that can be extrapolated across uncontrolled spaces kind of challenges your thinking, or do you have a theory on that?

    TET,

she’s no a qualified doctor, she spent four years learning about osteopathy.

I never asked you to compare her to Kill Gates, I asked you to look at the evidence and reaction of hospital staff all over the western world or are you saying they are just making it up and falling in line with a big conspiracy?

The only figures I have quoted are the ones that the governments are giving out, they say that the mortality rate is 0.37%, that’s all I am saying, you can read what you want into things, I read into that it’s nothing like the media are telling us.

  7. Coronavirus Quick News

Our best bet for relief from the Coronavirus is probably some existing drugs which can be shown effective in the treatment of the virus.

There are many trials underway for drugs like Remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine which are showing promise, and I’m sure that with the combined force of scientists worldwide a remedy will be found for treatment.

In the absence of a vaccine in the near future it looks like we will have to rely on a treatment drug.

    TET,

The stat you used 0.037 confused me, did you used that for flu?

That stat is the Covid-19 mortality rate.

The actual stat for flu is 0.01, that’s a big difference when we are talking about big numbers and we are talking about big numbers when talking about populations and failing to protect them.

As for vaccines, there are none for this group, (Corona) of viruses.

There will be no shortage of cures though.

  17. Canman

Defo my last as I do have much things to get done.

It depends on where your starting point is, I believe that there is a bigger agenda, I also believe that the western governments, or any other governments for that matter couldn’t give a flying duck about their people, a pandemic is something that as far as I was always aware killed wheans of people, this pandemic isn’t, it’s mortality rate is 0.37%, even with massaged up imo figures, anyways, these are government figures.

Some nations are doing things differently, Sweden for example are going down the herd immunity path, will it be proven the right path, who as yet knows, but what it will do is stand them in good stead if there is a second or third wave, that is the same path that BJ wanted to go down till the media made out that millions was going to die and he changed his mind, the predictions were wrong of course, I have always believed that is the way to go, but as I am just a numpty who cares what I think.

Just look at the figures, they are what’s important in all this, all the rest is just opinion be it right or wrong.

You would think that the days of inflated salaries (not Ally there) and even more inflated transfer fees would be over. Not saying players will have to go back down the mine, but somethings gotta change.

  19. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    TET,

For clarity, the mortality rate for flu is 1% Covid-19 is 3.7% so that’s an extra 4 people in every hundred to add to all the others, like the flu makes 5.

Now here’s my direction, the virus is more lethal to the elderly and people with underlying health problems. The torys are bound through the NHS to ensure treatment is available without profit margin. While they exist the NHS carries a burden that would need to be covered during the transition to private health insurance. Likely the insurance companies would be expected to pick up some of that load to hornswaggle people into thinking health insurance companies are bad as feared. But still the prepandemic numbers are too big, time was needed for the bulk of baby boomer pensioners to shuffle off their mortal coil, the pandemic comes along and bobs poking yer auntie, allow unrestricted spread and the care homes and people with underlying health issues will be removed from the herd in jig time, meanwhile scream and shout that your responsibility to protect them is less important than finding someone, any one to blame.

No problem spending billions invading foreign countries at the drop of a stetson to “protect our way of life” but actually protecting the population is a bit too far, costs too much you see.

Didn’t he post of his travails suffering from and the process of recovering from the Corona virus?

Think and hope I’ve got that right Phil.

  21. Canman

    it’s not 3.7%, it’s 0.37%

As for the care homes, I know that some in the UK doctors are not attending them, and the folks are not getting the care they should be, here in Spain some even had the staff effing off and leaving many to die in their beds, there is gonna be big problems soon enough over this btw, as always it’s only about the money.

We are coming at this from different angles but the outcome is the same, people will die, people always die and one person dying unnecessarily is one too many.

Oh and have a look at the Swedish numbers now, again you surprised me, the herd immunity or cull strategy to get rid of the weak, I did not think was your outlook, I had you down as a bit more caring than that, obviously misjudgment on my part.
