Sublime Celtic could break records, our DNA, spend to catch St Johnstone

476

Auldheid did an article for us over the summer contesting the notion that this season’s Premiership race would be more closely contested than recent seasons’. Seven weeks in it looks prescient. It’s not only that we’re four points clear with a game in hand, it’s the manner of most of our victories which is the most telling.

We’ve scored six, five and four twice in six league games, rendering the lack of a league clean sheet an irrelevant detail. On that subject, having watched Coulibaly’s goal for Kilmarnock over again I don’t think there’s much blame to attach anywhere. As Brendan Rodgers said after the game, Dorus de Vries was as far of his line as he should have been when play was >40 yards from goal. It was a Black Swan strike.

It’s difficult to say if we’ve missed Leigh Griffiths or not. We passed up a barrel load of chances at Inverness, which he may have been able to do something about, but the squad is so strong at the moment it’s impossible to say if Leigh would have been able to augment what we got from Moussa. Great to have both fit and ready, though.

Some of the football on show on Saturday was sublime. The passing speed and accuracy gave us time and space to open up Kilmarnock. It will be a different task no Wednesday but we have to challenge ourselves at this level.

I watched the Aberdeen-Newco game yesterday. For all Aberdeen took the points this game supplied more evidence that they are well short of the form which saw them as genuine contenders for most of last season. A catalogue of unforced errors saw them concede possession and momentum throughout the game.

They will still probably win Best of the Rest title, thought, as Hearts don’t seem to be able to put a run of performances together, Motherwell are far from the team who finished second three years ago, and Newco don’t seem to be able to score or defend to any acceptable standard.  Loved Souness suggesting they need to spend more money – a team already spending more than they earn!  And to what end, catching St Johnstone?  Ponder the facts behind your EBT, Graeme, then you might reassess what spending money chasing a football dream leads to.

As Auldheid suggested, these teams will take points off each other more than off Celtic. Records could be broken this season.

It’s in our DNA

74 Celtic fans have signed up to Sleep Out at Celtic Park on 12 November. Sleeping out in Glasgow in November is a non-trivial matter, but it’s being done to raise money to tackle the “torment of homelessness” for the winter ahead. Respect to all involved.

I’m not sleeping out but on Sunday I’m running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon through Glasgow for the Foundation. The prospect feels non-trivial at the moment (though less onerous than sleeping out in November). Dozens of Celtic fans are also running for the Foundation.

The engagement right across the support to put something back in the tradition that started with Brother Walfrid in November 1887 is remarkable. We get it.

Not all of us can sleep out, or pound the streets for months in preparation, but if you can support any of these efforts please so. My MyDonate page is here.  Thank you.

There’s no appeal from the Supreme Court.

I don’t think anyone likes paying out money, wherever they live. But there’s two sides to the argument.

If supermarkets and the like can’t control who uses their free car parks then they’ll stop providing them and charge us all for the privilege. Be careful what you wish for.

Offered a bluenose pal a bet that we’d beat them by 3 clear goals every game in the league this season.

“Don’t want to take your money off you” was his answer.

Good point, not seen much ‘Battle of Britain’ patter from the media. Such talk would be in the back of the minds of the City players, whilst not a leveller its something they haven’t faced before, and with our home crowd, we’ve practically got a 2-0 lead already ;)

I think we showed Barcelona far too much respect and didn;t hassle them or do anything to knock them off their stride.

Lets not be overawed any longer, we are there on merit. I expect City will have to work extremely hard if they want the 3 pts.

The record I’d like to see this season is a record of their funding to see who’s behind ibrox’ current arcane financial practices.

Ghuys, thanks for comments/advice above. It is an English based company. I get the bit about Fine v Invoice.

I’m probably going to ignore, but accept the risk that they may wish to pursue me in the Small Claims Court.

Waiting to speak with a Scottish-based DAS Lawyer for final advice (free helpline on Home Insurance), notably on whether or not I’d be responsible for court costs should it go that far.

ps Majorly pissed off with Morrisons, 25 years using that store for my messages!

pps £85 !!! A lot of money (for me anyway). A figure plucked from the air seemingly, how the hell do these parking companies get away with it? And Morrisons will no doubt get some kick back.

  7. On Hun media, they are flipping their dish with the Scotsman newspaper. Threatening to stop buying it cos it’s written by tims.

Numerous physical threats of violence against don fans when they visit their penniless arcade, I hope the polis are monitoring these threats, and take the appropriate actions ?

One of them even posted that Aberdeen have still to visit ipox twice ?

No they won’t ya tube when Sevco finish in the bottom six! Hahaha

  8. Bobby Murdoch cheers mate !

How will I recognise you guys ?

You will recongnise me cos I look like George Clooney…..oops sorry ” Looney” !

In season 2000/2001, I bought the gold Celtic away top. I took it to a sports firm and got ” Boaby Murdoch” and number 4, printed on the back ( I’ve still got it).

It was much admired, although one old mate said ” why Boaby instead if Bobby” ?

I advised him that wherever I stood at Celtic Park watching this genius at work, I had never heard anyone in the crowd call him ” Bobby”, it was always ” Boaby”.

It was my idea of respecting the man, and sadly in May 2001, Bobby/ Boaby Murdoch went to that great midfield in the sky, just days before we lifted the treble under MON.

He was one if the Greatest players I have ever seen. Lisbon was ” Boabys final”.

Either I’m picking you up wrong, or you have misinterpreted what I have said.

On the day of the, ahem, offence, I did indeed use the Morrisons store for my messages! That’s why I was parked in their car park. In fact, used the store twice! in between meeting a friend for coffee in the Costa next door to the supermarket.

That…..Advert! is all I can describe it as, on the evening times (I know, I know, obsessed lol) website for Club 1872, written by Chris Jack is really laughable. Seriously astounded of forehead that any mugs can fall for that horse sheet.

It reads like an email inviting you to send yer bank details by return as some Nigerian guy has died and you’re the beneficiary.

The company does NOT need to prove who was the driver. The charge notice is issued to the registered owner automatically. It is then up to the owner to advise the company who was driving, if it wasn’t the owner, after which a new charge will be sent to the named driver.

What happens after that depends on the company. In my experience, if you ignore them long enough, they will eventually give up.

  19. BMCUWP, cheers I’ve noted your email addresses.

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/parking-ticket-appeals#howto

I received a PCN for parking at Forge retail park for Celtic midweek game two years ago and followed this guide to successfully fight fine/notice for £60 or thereabouts.

Remember the rules are different for Scotland and NI compared to rest of UK in that the company issuing the fine, despite their threats, must be able to prove you were the driver responsible for parking there.

Even if you are the only person insured to drive the vehicle, they have no way of knowing this and the one key piece of info to put in your letter is that you were not the driver of the vehicle that day and therefore are not liable for any fine. Just leave it at that, they won’t ask you to name other registered drivers or anything like that but will send you another “demand” for payment a week or two later, and this is when you simply write back, stating that you feel you’re being harassed after already telling them you were not the driver. I’d recommend sending your letters by recorded delivery.

They will probably send you another letter after this to say they will not be taking the matter any further – that was my outcome, I hope you have the same! For your own peace of mind you’re best not ignoring their letters as they’re known to be very persistent and, although quite unlikely, there is a chance they could take it to a civil court if you don’t send them on their way.

    Good luck mate!

  22. NO BOBBY DOES IT PETTA on 26TH SEPTEMBER 2016 1:25 PM

It isn’t enforceable in law in Scotland; they would have to sue you in a Civil Court to try and get the money (small claims).

Ignore and they will reciprocate. They make their money from those who are naive enough to pay the first or second demand.

I received one last November for overstaying by 3 minutes in a car park I didn’t know was using the Parking Charge notice system.

They started off with a £85 charge I had to pay by a certain date or the charge would increase

    I ignored

They sent me another saying this had period been extended but I needed to pay asap or the charge would increase

    I ignored

The third time it was up to £120 ‘as it was now a late payment’

    I ignored

They sent me a another saying they were willing to accept the original £85

    I ignored

Haven’t heard anything since April, so I’m assuming they have got the message I aint paying it
