Sublime Celtic could break records, our DNA, spend to catch St Johnstone

Auldheid did an article for us over the summer contesting the notion that this season’s Premiership race would be more closely contested than recent seasons’. Seven weeks in it looks prescient. It’s not only that we’re four points clear with a game in hand, it’s the manner of most of our victories which is the most telling.

We’ve scored six, five and four twice in six league games, rendering the lack of a league clean sheet an irrelevant detail. On that subject, having watched Coulibaly’s goal for Kilmarnock over again I don’t think there’s much blame to attach anywhere. As Brendan Rodgers said after the game, Dorus de Vries was as far of his line as he should have been when play was >40 yards from goal. It was a Black Swan strike.

It’s difficult to say if we’ve missed Leigh Griffiths or not. We passed up a barrel load of chances at Inverness, which he may have been able to do something about, but the squad is so strong at the moment it’s impossible to say if Leigh would have been able to augment what we got from Moussa. Great to have both fit and ready, though.

Some of the football on show on Saturday was sublime. The passing speed and accuracy gave us time and space to open up Kilmarnock. It will be a different task no Wednesday but we have to challenge ourselves at this level.

I watched the Aberdeen-Newco game yesterday. For all Aberdeen took the points this game supplied more evidence that they are well short of the form which saw them as genuine contenders for most of last season. A catalogue of unforced errors saw them concede possession and momentum throughout the game.

They will still probably win Best of the Rest title, thought, as Hearts don’t seem to be able to put a run of performances together, Motherwell are far from the team who finished second three years ago, and Newco don’t seem to be able to score or defend to any acceptable standard.  Loved Souness suggesting they need to spend more money – a team already spending more than they earn!  And to what end, catching St Johnstone?  Ponder the facts behind your EBT, Graeme, then you might reassess what spending money chasing a football dream leads to.

As Auldheid suggested, these teams will take points off each other more than off Celtic. Records could be broken this season.

It’s in our DNA

74 Celtic fans have signed up to Sleep Out at Celtic Park on 12 November. Sleeping out in Glasgow in November is a non-trivial matter, but it’s being done to raise money to tackle the “torment of homelessness” for the winter ahead. Respect to all involved.

I’m not sleeping out but on Sunday I’m running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon through Glasgow for the Foundation. The prospect feels non-trivial at the moment (though less onerous than sleeping out in November). Dozens of Celtic fans are also running for the Foundation.

The engagement right across the support to put something back in the tradition that started with Brother Walfrid in November 1887 is remarkable. We get it.

Not all of us can sleep out, or pound the streets for months in preparation, but if you can support any of these efforts please so. My MyDonate page is here.  Thank you.

Reluctant to enter into any correspondence with them (even to claim I wasn’t the driver) for fear that I’m then accepting liability in some way. Anyhow, they have CCTV images so could probably prove I was the driver (I’m devilishly handsome and therefore pretty recognisable).

I’m going to take up with the store manager. Have read other cases where the supermarket have arranged for the tickets to be cancelled (on the basis that I was in the store twice, buying shit, during the three hours).

Sorry, but you’ve got that wrong. The first paragraph anyway.

I suspect that as fewer and fewer people pay up the parking companies will be more inclined to sue and take their chance in court.

    Black Swan… ma erchie!

… hope the experiment has ended now…. ffs he had more than enough time to get back on his goal line, where he could have raised his arms and comfortably caught the thing!!

It was hardly travelling at mach speed!!

  10. If I’d saved the penalty that got my new manager into the CL groups at the first time of asking I’d be pissed at being dropped too, aside from the terrorised right-back bundling the ball out of my hands for Hapoel’s second.

No Black Swan – it was a speculative Hail Mary launched with hope and Doris flapped at it the way he flapped at King Billy’s (see what I did there, lurking Klan?) ranged effort at Inverness last week.

He seems to lack a crucial extra foot in height to be a top keeper – and even though he gets the leaps in, there’s not a strong enough hand there to apply the saving deflection.

CG in for Citeh- I estimate we may need a good shot-stopper on at least, oh, a couple of occasions…

  11. Used to be be a wee fat guy who pussyed about Tescoes coatbridge trying his luck at doing people….. slapped tickets at niece and nephews cars for parking over white line…….think the fines were £60 thereabouts……the fools paid up……..always best to check out where they park their cars just in case they hit you with a ticket…..get what i mean

good result for the bhoys against killie 6 goals at home and some really good build up play that nearly led to more .

Just have to say watched the sheep v sevco game yesterday and I think you will struggle to find a more abhorrant player than Garner of sevco ,constantly falling over and tangleing himself round opposing players and looking for them to be carded by the ref

I recall him doing the same wen we played them ,holding his face when there was no contact at all .

This guy is a total disgrace and has no respect for his fellow pros whats so ever

CS called it right when he said the refs should keep an eye on this guy

    Shameful

  13. Trust resolutions to be supported by the Board….

Following lengthy negotiations with the ‘Company’ (as they like to be called) the Trust is delighted to announce that for the first time in our existence the PLC Board will be calling for support for a resolution from the Trust. This will be the first time ever that the Board have recommended that a shareholder requisitioned resolution be supported – notwithstanding the fact that subsequent to AGMs they have implemented our proposals on a number of occasions.

This resolution relates to the process of genuine consultation between the Board and supporters, an area in which the Trust have played a leading role throughout our existence. Matters relating to the governance and ownership of the Club is, of course, the reason the Celtic Trust exists.

At this very late stage – normally our resolutions would already have been submitted – the Trustees of the Trust decided that although we had some reservations about the wording of the resolution, we would accept the assurances of the good faith of the Club and hope that this will represent the beginnings of a genuinely consultative structure where fans’ organisations can be consulted in good time and can influence policy for the good of all of us.

We are continuing to discuss with the Club some proposals we have made with regard to the Living Wage. We will announce during this coming week the results of those discussions and whether we will be putting a resolution to the PLC AGM on this issue this year, so please look out for that.

In the meantime, it is now imperative that we obtain the required 100 shareholder signatures. The resolution requisition form (with the wording and the supporting statement) can be found here. You can print it out, sign it and return it to the Celtic Trust at

The Celtic Trust, PO Box 2066, Glasgow G32 2AX

    Or

You can print it out, sign it, scan it and email it back to us at our new email address TheCelticTrust@gmail.com

If you are a holder of ordinary shares in Celtic PLC and you wish to support this resolution then please do this as a matter of urgency.

    Thank you

Thank you to everyone who contributed , whether volunteer , promoter or donor .

We are pure dead chuffed about this as this virtually covers off next seasons SB’s from this one collection alone . Maybe we’ll take over all of 115 and have a Kano Korner ?

I know i thanked people on saturday night , but just to say , again , I am truly humbled by the support we get , event after event . I am no longer surprised by it , just humbled and just a tiny bit chuffed .

Regarding the free kick yesterday, I wonder if Warburton is telling the truth. It seems bizarre that a fourth official would make such a comment. Normally they would not criticise another referee’s decision.

If it is true, surely the fourth official should be disciplined.

maybe cfc plc will open another standing section next season, my preference would be the diaganol opposite from the green brigade,

i would also like to see a platformed section for the fans in wheelchairs. like old trafford.

why not, we will have the funds

  17. Probably because I don’t tend to watch a lot of English Premiership football, I wasn’t too concerned when we came out in the same group as Man City.

Defensively we’re still very suspect in my opinion, however, I have a good feeling about Wednesday night.

  20. My cousin who dropped a fiver in one of the Kano buckets informs me the bucket holder was a tall, handsome fellow with a large smile on his coupon.

From his description I can only assume it was our own distinguished Delaney’s Dunkey of this very parish.

  21. Evening Timland from a very warm and humid hun free mountain valley.

It’s pyoor magic they are still blaming the referee for getting a decision correct, it was a foul all day long, no matter if yer man gets the ball, if he cleans out the player it’s a foul, end of, only prob is when the huns do that it’s no a foul, Bro Beaton got it wrong it seems in their eyes, but right.

But let them delude themselfs that they were robbed, fine by me.

Looking forward to Wed, interesting to see what we can do at home against the worlds best.

  22. Gary…..

    Breadheid said yesterday that

“the 4th official said it wasn’t a foul”

    Today he said

“the 4th official seen the ball move sideways and made a comment”

Backtracking and the hacks know it but won’t highlight it.
