Sublime Celtic, Morgan, Lennon, Caldwell, Budge

Jim McIntyre must wonder if accepting the Dundee job was his wisest move.  Losing 0-5 to Celtic does not get anyone sacked, but the ease with which the champions unpicked his team was alarming.

It was a sublime performance by Celtic, but in truth, it was so easy, you could not name a player who needed to deliver a top performance.  Rogic (fabulous goal), Forrest, McGregor, Sinclair and Christie dictated issues between them.  By halftime, all that mattered was to complete the game without injury, a hope which was unfulfilled.

I liked what I saw of Daniel Arzani.  He is reminiscent of a stockier Patrick Roberts.  We will get goals from him.  While Lewis Morgan treated us to the rare spectacle of taking corner kicks with both feet.  The first Celtic player to do this since Lubo?  This is an indicator of a deep innate ability.

While Celtic were strolling around Dens in second gear, Saturday’s opponents Hearts, were required to put a shift in to earn a point against Hibs.  Neil Lennon was assaulted by a missile at Tynecastle, days after a Hearts fan brought widespread condemnation for striking a pensioner with a thrown bottle on Sunday.  Although the uproar was not widespread enough to encompass the usually verbose Ann Budge.  Maybe if such matters were faced full on by Hearts they would be less frequent.  Neil’s former team-mate, Gary Caldwell, should consider the man has endured the most violent and persistent racist and sectarian abuse than anyone in Scotland for decades.  The good humour Neil maintains is miraculous.

As we hoped in yesterday’s blog, both teams above Celtic dropped points, meaning we moved above Kilmarnock and within four points of Hearts, with a game in hand.  The title push is well underway.

Releasing annual accounts on the evening of a game, that old trick!  If it was me announcing a £14m loss I might do the same.  Maybe pick up on this later.

I love Scott Brown in our team.

But the balance has been better in recent matches without him.

This is not a critique of Brown and more about player responsibility and better formation in my opinion.

Was not a fan of Rogic and McGregor in the same midfield as they often cramped each others space and neither seemed clear on their role.

McGregor sitting deeper has freed up more room for Rogic’s magic feet and he is using them to great effect.

Also McGregor is seeing more of the field to exploit with his vision and passing.

Our out balls have been better with Boyata and Benkovic but also because more people are showing for the ball rather than leaving Brown who was often double teamed with all the responsibility to set up our forward advance.

Our spacing is also better as our defenders are now pushing higher.

So connaire & TTT have absolutely no idea of the level of knowledge held by those singing the rebs but as far as they are concerned and one who sings the rebs at a match is an ignorant plastic paddy, aye very good.

Still, I say get rid of LaWWeLL. Good, bad, indifferent or wonderful results, he should be gone.

I offer as an alternative – someone else.

The Radharc team visited Derry in the summer of 1964 to look at accusations of discrimination against the Catholic population in housing and political representation.

  7. My idea of a defensive midfielder is someone who is adept and breaking up play and giving the ball to those who can create, Calmac is hardly required to break up play in the SPL as teams often lose the ball due to poor technique, better teams especially in Europe do not do this, and will punish you for losing the ball and being unable to win it back. I love the way Celtic are playing at the minute creative fast and scoring goals, be interesting to see if we try Calmac in this position in Europe.

  8. The Great Peter Lawlwell Debate

I laugh when I read all that’s written both for and against PL.

Not one to sit on the fence at all but taking Celtic as a business, as a business, what do anybody who wants him out/sacked expect his replacement to be exactly. Probably the same type of hard nosed businessman whose main aim is the bottom line for the ongoing benefit of the shareholders. Really does make sense to me.

Ask yourselves, just how bad a job is he doing? We are a very healthy club financially, and our onfield activities are extremely good, so before criticising too much, think about it.

Remember, the hottest place in Hell , is reserved for those who in great moral crisis, sit on the fence.

  9. Huge credit to Derek McInnes,(never thought I would type that),backing Neil Lennon, saying the ‘he brings it upon himself ‘ nonsense is as offensive as the act itself, also having a thinly veiled go at that Muppet Caldwell.

  11. McInnes dismissed the assertion Lennon had stoked the flames by celebrating Hearts’ disallowed goal.

He added: “I also find it ridiculous for people within the game to make comments saying that maybe Lenny brings it on himself.

“That for me is as poor and crass a comment as you can imagine.

“Obviously, you get abuse from fans and give a bit back, it’s seen as a bit of banter by the vast majority.

“We don’t want robots in the dugout.”

  12. Canamalar @3.56,

We’re you there last night? Have you witnessed their antics previously?

If no, then, as they say, Ignorance is bliss, enjoy ?

  13. I was chatting with a Jambo friend and a St. Mirren supporting friend, neither of whom has a good word to say about Pater Lawwell. Both are jealous of his ability, influence and business acumen. Both do not particularly care for Celtic. When I asked if they would like Mr. Lawwell to be their club’s CEO, chairman, whatever, both enthusiastically said yes.

I don’t know what Peter Lawwell does or doesn’t do. I do accept that every club needs a sound business structure to organise the PLC, to provide a suitable platform to allow our team to thrive and perform.

Celtic have both the best football team, by far, in Scotland and the best PLC in Scottish football.

The two are not just a coincidence, IMO.

Anyway, the team’s excellent recent form means any negative posters have to recalibrate and aim at the board or Mr. Lawwell.

Those that just love a moan can have a perfectly legitimate,IMO, pop at the current songbook or wade into the inevitable poppy debate.

For the record, I loathe the bastardisation of “Beautiful Sunday”. It is as crass and relevant as the pathetic huns I witnessed on return to Glasgow on Sunday evening chanting their sectarian UVF nonsense.

    I don’t buy or wear a poppy.

PFA Scotland have made a statement on player being assaulted last night, I don’t remember them saying anything when Broonie was attacked at Poundland last year, and an industrial size battery just missed LG? Reprehensible

Any comments on the frequent physical assaults on our players, most notably KT.

Reading back I noticed you mentioned me re the Ogilvie thing, been looking into it and was hoping the poster who told me this was on so he could direct me to a link, as I just can’t seem to find one to telling me that there could not have been an alternative to his re election, Auldheid never mentioned it during the exchange either, knowing him as I do I would have thot that something like that would have been the first thing he mentioned.

But as ever, if I’m wrong I’m wrong and there is not point falling out over it.

Must be the song debate time again then ;-)

  16. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

    The Forbes article:

“…For a club such as Rangers, who went bust and were liquidated in 2012 before being refounded in Scotland’s fourth division, the perils of poor balance sheets are well known…”

“…Rangers have consistently lost money since their reconstitution after liquidation in 2012…”

Two cracking sentences – succinct, concentrated and accurate. Great to see such a crystal clear and honest writing style.

Such simple openness really highlights the sloppy, cowardly, dishonest and amateurish prose that passes for journalism in the major sports news outlets – written, television and radio – in our country.

I am in your corner but you have described it more succinctly than I can.

I used to sing all sorts when I was young at the games. Maybe just grown up now but I really think the relevance level is much lower now.

  18. on the lawwell debate, don’t know the guy or know whether he is a good ceo or a bad ceo, what I do know is our team needed strengthening in the summer, Brendan Rodgers told him we needed quality players and yes Brendan was left disappointed, now money was available so why wasn’t Brendan given any, now it comes down to was peter lawwell overridden by dermot desmond, of the rangers are one of the great institutions of Scottish football shit, or did peter just override Brendan.someone is to blame for the transfer window farce.hh.

  19. BGFC, The author of the Forbes article makes mention of the poor reporting of the accounts in Scotland:

“The story did appear low down on the websites of the Daily Record and The Scottish Sun, but one had to seek it out and it was presented with no analysis beyond the quotes from Dave King that appeared in the club statement. “

  20. is refounded even a word ?

if it is how can it be used in the context of something that was liquidated.

  21. Saint Stivs, I suppose it’s still better than saying they were ‘demoted’ ! But I know what you mean.

  22. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Interesting goings on at Tynecastle last night a goalkeeper punched by a fan Lennie was hit on the head by a coin thrown from the crowd. The Scottish parliament discussing allowing alcohol back into football grounds proof for me if it is needed our MSPs are bonkers.H.H.

  26. great to see that the roof has not caved in because the great Scott B is currently indisposed nursing an injury. Young Calmac doing a fine job at present and no harm as Broonie can do with the rest.

Celtic now ticking over nicely and banging in the goals with Sinky getting back to the class we know he brings to the game when he hits form. Boyata and Benkovic if only we could build a permanent defense around these two guys and keep them at Celtic Park, if only? Could DD afford Benkovic and break the bank.

It was me who mentioned about the Ogilvie election as President of the SFA. Unfortunately I cannot provide a link, as I posted from memory, although it was covered extensively at the time as I recall. There was a lot of debate about it then which, of course, was quite some time ago now. HH
