Sublime Celtic, Morgan, Lennon, Caldwell, Budge

337

Jim McIntyre must wonder if accepting the Dundee job was his wisest move.  Losing 0-5 to Celtic does not get anyone sacked, but the ease with which the champions unpicked his team was alarming.

It was a sublime performance by Celtic, but in truth, it was so easy, you could not name a player who needed to deliver a top performance.  Rogic (fabulous goal), Forrest, McGregor, Sinclair and Christie dictated issues between them.  By halftime, all that mattered was to complete the game without injury, a hope which was unfulfilled.

I liked what I saw of Daniel Arzani.  He is reminiscent of a stockier Patrick Roberts.  We will get goals from him.  While Lewis Morgan treated us to the rare spectacle of taking corner kicks with both feet.  The first Celtic player to do this since Lubo?  This is an indicator of a deep innate ability.

While Celtic were strolling around Dens in second gear, Saturday’s opponents Hearts, were required to put a shift in to earn a point against Hibs.  Neil Lennon was assaulted by a missile at Tynecastle, days after a Hearts fan brought widespread condemnation for striking a pensioner with a thrown bottle on Sunday.  Although the uproar was not widespread enough to encompass the usually verbose Ann Budge.  Maybe if such matters were faced full on by Hearts they would be less frequent.  Neil’s former team-mate, Gary Caldwell, should consider the man has endured the most violent and persistent racist and sectarian abuse than anyone in Scotland for decades.  The good humour Neil maintains is miraculous.

As we hoped in yesterday’s blog, both teams above Celtic dropped points, meaning we moved above Kilmarnock and within four points of Hearts, with a game in hand.  The title push is well underway.

Releasing annual accounts on the evening of a game, that old trick!  If it was me announcing a £14m loss I might do the same.  Maybe pick up on this later.

When Forbes start telling the world you’re a basket case of a football club, then your creditors must be nervous.

    IMHO

The principle mistake made by our Club reps. ,Board , CEO or whoever , over the last number of years was the disastrous decision to appoint Ronny as coach AND not to recognise and correct that error far more quickly than they did.

Now that WAS an internal decision made by our Club.

Sadly , and it is sad ,Ronny ain`t doing so well in his homeland right now

    ———–

Desmond offered the job to Roy Keane. Keane and Lawwell couldn’t agree terms and the deal fell through. Ronny was interviewed as a potential no2 and ended up failing into the top job. (Known knowns)

I suspect Lawwell was wary of Keane’s volatility and that he would want money to spend. PL was in downsize mode as no team from Ibrox was in play at the time. Ronny ticked all the boxes, cheap, didn’t want or expect too much and was easy to control and would allow PL (and John Park) to play de facto Director of football. It was low risk as again no Ibrox club in play. The entire episode goes a long way to explaining the lack of ambition in Europe. The business plan is intrinsically linked to the Club south of the water. (my opinion)

  4. The intricies of who runs a business are myriad, with some rules.

CEO is there to ensure that all parts are operating effectively for the business.

It is the responsibility of the individual directors to ensure the performance of their area.

The CEO of Celtic is working to towards gains for Celtic in many ways.

I have asked on here a few times what the directors at the club do, I know what Pedro does and I think in the main he does a very decent job given his remit, or the remit he seems to be pursuing, not that I agree with it tho, as yet nobody has given me an answer as to what the other directors do for the substantial remuneration they take out of the club, I assume you will know judging by your post there.

they meet every couple of months to divi up the bonuses and pay rises, oh and come up with brilliant ideas like zero hour contracts for anyone not on an executive bonus scheme, very important stuff dont you know

The reason I raised the Ronny situation was simply to point out that some decisions made at Board level have patently been the wrong decisions.

    That merits criticism.

With Brendan at the helm , it seems to me that the lesson has been learned.

Your take on the hiring of Ronny would seem to be plausible , However …………..

If , as you suggest , the hiring of Ronny would ” allow PL (and John Park) to play de facto Director of football ” then why would Pl subsequently have countenanced the hiring of Brendan ?

    Nobody`s pushover.

Unless of course your suggestion has no merit .

I`ll bet that P.L. did the contract work for Ronny and nothing more.

The rest was outwith his remit.

    1) well done to the Bhoys last nights ? Can’t decide which was best goal, as only seen the clips provided by Lymnbhoy ( thanks)

    2) well done to Neil’s agent for stating the truth ( is that neganon ?)

    3) PL, only telling you what I hear – PL, does not meet with Res 12 team, Celtic lawyer does

PL, does not meet with the Celtic Trust who represent shareholders

    Why is that ????

The idea that PL recruited Ronny and then left him to it is fanciful and that’s being polite.

I believe Desmond was instrumental in recruiting Rodgers. I personally don’t believe PL would have been willing or would have been able to recruit Brendan Rodgers.

PL does what the Board tells him to do.

In my opinion, your opinion is close to the truth. Our board see us as the other cheek in an Old Firm arse.

    ——–

The Board’s ultimate priority is the balance sheet for the benefit of the shareholders. The Board see us as ‘customers’. The notion that we are the heart and sole of the club in their eyes is a myth. We are customers, they want us to buy tickets and merchandise in the same way Tesco want us to buy groceries and that Topshop want us to buy clothing.

  19. It’s an annoying myth about the tv deal in 2012

The SPL were going to be short of the viewing figures required to trigger the payments that they get/got from SKY/BT.

So the simple choice for the clubs was either accept less money and struggle OR include Sevco and not have the financial blow that in some cases would be severe.

Celtic didnt’t need the extra £500k for finishing 1st but Aberdeen and St Johnstone and Motherwell needed the money they had budgeted for.

We need/needed Dons Hibs Hearts to nbe strong so we had a league and also to keep Sevco from getting 2nd place straight away.

Also, Sevco never got a coin other than when they were on the telly at home.

    Another myth….

If I ran a business that had dealings with the police and required licenses to operate and the police asked for client/customer details or cctv while investigating a crime, I would be a bit daft to say no even if I strongly disagreed.

    Nally81,

There are laws that require the police to provide details when seeking personal data, why they want it, their reasons for the request and what they intend to do with it. The Plc are responsible to ensure their customers rights are being protected, the Plc failed to do that. The numbers of people who had their rights violated by both the police and Plc were in excess of helping police with their enquiries. Remember the majority did not have police records until the OBA.

I’m being biased, as I believe the Bhoy Christie has a huge future – hopefully with his team Celtic ?, his running past 3 defenders and passing ball into net, from a sublime pass by Odsonne ?
