Subplot: red card Scott Brown

245

We have two hugely important away games coming up, which will hopefully go a long way to determining the title, but I get the sense there is a subplot beyond that.  Too many stories involving the words: Scott Brown, red card and dangerous tackle, have crept into the lexicon this week, all on the back of a ball-winning, non-dangerous tackle.

If I was a cynic I’d suggest the scene was being set for Scott Brown to be the focus of outrage and demands for his dismissal at every challenge during a cup tie coming your way soon.

Once we have the important games out of the way we’ll talk more about red cards, and the likelihood of Celtic picking one up at Hampden.

After 5-0 and 6-0 defeats to Celtic in their previous two games, Dundee took a clean sheet from Celtic Park last month, and had chances to take more than a point from the game.  They have only won one game since, Saturday’s 5-2 demolition of Ross County, who they are nip-and-tuck with for the final top six place before the split.

Before that draw at Celtic Park, Dundee were on a seven game unbeaten run.  Their form is nowhere near as good now, so I don’t expect them to be as adventurous as they were last month.  They will sit-in and play us on the counterattack.  The aforementioned Scott Brown and however partners him in central-mid have important defensive duties ahead.

After scoring 16 in his 15 appearances since the turn of the year, Leigh Griffiths hasn’t scored in two games – the first time he’s failed to score in consecutive domestic games since last season.  Do not bet against him tonight.

Scotland’s biggest selling indigenous newspaper led with a powerful front page today:

“Confidential documents leaked from a secretive Charlotte Fakes expose how the grasping mega-rich elite hide untold wealth to avoid paying their fair share of tax, a plea to the poor and working class across the globe….

Wake up world and smell the corruption”

Well, almost. I added the “Charlotte Fakes” bit, which originally read “Panama bank”.

Concerns about how the leaked documents came into the possession of over 100 journalists didn’t get in the way of thousands of media outlets reporting the contents.

Ever wondered how the Cameron family could afford the very best education money can buy for their son, David? Now you know. Or have you considered that Leonel Messi and Michel Platini might one day be bunkbed mates?

You are free to ponder these questions without some poor sod having to pester the life out of police, prosecutors, football authorities and the Scottish media (at not insignificant personal risk), because most of the western world reacts differently to news of corruption than we do here in Scotland.

Congratulations to the Celtic Development Squad, who won the league after 25 undefeated games this season.  Take a look at their league table:

  1. No matter what happens tonight we are still 4 points clear, I think we will be 7 clear after tonight, get it done Celtic.

I wonder what the Sevco Loyal ( Is four years sufficient to qualify for loyalty?) are saying about the Hearts game being postponed? It is certainly good news for us……provided the unwell players have all completely recovered by Friday.

  3. themaestro72 on

Why is nobody mentioning Leigh Griffiths getting booked on Saturday for letting Prince Bauben raise his hands to his face twice on Saturday after Rogic got wiped out?

Imagine a Celtic player raising his hands, we all know what would happen.

Would be a shame. Reminds me of Liam Miller in a way. You stand by somebody while they have serious injuries and as soon as they show some form they are looking for their next move.

    Said it on here before.

Run Celtic on the Balance Sheet rules all principle.

No complaints when players act like employees in a Balance Sheet dominated concern.

    Is big Tam definitely out?

Was thinking back to our last game against Dundee and how that 0-0 went…….got a vague recollection of Dundee being very well drilled and right on top of our players, making it very hard for them to then do anything positive, let alone keep a hold of the ball.

One thing i like about Rogic is that he is the only player we have (imo) that can play with his back to the goal and can still create something by turning his man despite the pressing and therefore create a bit of havoc but on looking back at our starting 11 in that game……big Tam was in the mix from the start so that kinda put my theory about him making a difference to bed right away before any of you lot even retorted!

Wee Roberts was on from the start then too, so that’s another guy with that bit of genius that did not make a difference then either and i believe that’s what is needed when faced with a well organised side.

A few more months here and hopefully brimming with confidence(as if he was short of it)after his exploits at the weekend may well make him a different foe for them this time round.

GMS came back after a few games out injured and picked up from where he left off so id love to see him get another crack at it and he was a thorn in their side while at Utd.

Last up for the 3 behind Griff…….McGregor……Allan…..Commons……or will Johansen be pushed further forward again to make way for Bitton?

Wish i could pick the team just to get that part of the evenings anticipation out the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I read that Rogic was out I didn’t think there would be any changes, now it’s Bitton for Tommy R……makes sense Ronny, personally would love Allan or Christie but i am sure Ronny is far more qualified than me

  9. The Battered Bunnet on

Reading the continuing vitriol directed at the guys who instigated and have since persevered with Resolution 12, I can only wonder at the abuse they’ll get when finally, inevitably, there is an outcome.

The following range of outcomes are equally likely in my view:

    1) UEFA confirms that the Club Licensing process was applied and adhered to in the proper manner by both SFA and UEFA

    or

    2) UEFA confirms that the Club Licensing process was applied and adhered to in the proper manner by SFA, but there were irregularities in the returns of one club that ought to have been actioned by UEFA.

    or

    3) UEFA confirms that the Club Licensing process was applied and adhered to in the proper manner by UEFA, but there were irregularities in the returns of one club that ought to have been actioned by SFA.

    or, less likely perhaps

    4) The Resolution is defeated by procedural measures, and the question asked goes unanswered.

    Outcomes 2 and 3 have a corollary:

    – That the irregularities in the return of one club were sufficiently significant that a UEFA License should have been withheld.

    – That the irregularities in the return of one club were not sufficiently significant that a UEFA License should have been withheld.

All the disrespect and rudeness in the world will not change the final outcome. I dread to think though what awaits the guys at the denouement. Acrimony and disdain from some on here with outcome 1 or 4. Malevolence from other quarters with outcome 2 or 3.

And all for simply asking a question. The temerity of it. They asked a question. The very temerity.

I have to agree with some earlier posters on the PhilMac thing.

He was in the ‘right place’ at the ‘right time’ when Rangers FC and Sevco disintegrated – I enjoyed his collated information and, purchased his book into the bargain.

However nowadays, all he has to offer is ‘paper-thin’ innuendo, nothing new is being revealed. He puts deadlines on his submitted questions, knowing that they won’t be adhered to – this provides him with fodder for his next ‘piece’

I too, dislike his ‘old pals act’ with Ashley – however it’s only the ‘my enemy’s enemy, is my friend’ stance – his unequivical backing of the SNP is similar – he hates the UK, so let’s back the SNP and forget the hardship that ordinary people in Scotland might be subjected to if we ever had independence.

For me, The Rangers Tax Case and the late Paul McConville(RIP) were the fonts of all knowledge in matters of cheating, tax-evasion, debt- dumping and dodgy-dealing at Ibrox. Their forensic dessemination of the facts and the machinations that lay behind them, were compulsive reading – I miss reading Paul’s writings immensely HH

I think Phil has provided a couple of decent scoops.

The fact that Dave King offered his shares to Ashley really did put some noses out of joint.

  21. Looking forward to the game tonight where three points will be hard to come by, even with all the options Ronny has at his disposal.

Expect nothing else other than two wide men, in GMS and Patrick Roberts and I think he’ll prefer Bitton with Brown, and a move forward, for Stefan Johansen.

Tom Rogic played well on Saturday but may find himself on the bench along with Charlie Mulgrew if he returns at all.

Dedryk Boyata did enough to claim the CB jersey again, the rest as you were.

As for Broony, probably have a delayed 2 game ban after the night, we will contest it and a hastily arranged meeting will be held next Thursday tae uphold the punishment. They really fear him.

    Tontine Tim,

I’m hoping he is following the Ancelotti line of thinking, horses for courses while trying to educate the younger players into his ideal formation as an evolutionary change as opposed to his revolutionary idea which has had little impact on the landscape so far.

All of those outcomes are possible and Res12 never suggested which one it would be.

What I will add though is that regardless of which outcome is reached it will not be the temerity to ask questions that will be what matters.

What will matter is that we actually got answers from an unaccountable body determined to keep the truth hidden and how getting those answers was done through determined shareholders.

Ive missed our last few games as ive been working but previously, i felt that GMS looked like he had the makings of a very good understanding with Griffiths.

Not sure if that came from being in a more advanced starting position due to a formation change or not, but he certainly linked well with him, so im inclined to believe that these understandings are what we should build on.

Sometimes i wonder whether a new guy wearing The Hoops is really up to the job or whether it is the ones that he is joining that are then the problem(old dogs n new tricks stuff)

Nobody likes to see players that have done it for us being replaced but somewhere down the line……and that line may actually be a very short one for Ronny……he’s gotta have a team full of guys doing what he wants them to do rather than yesterdays men clinging to yesterdays tactics.

Really like the thought of GMS and Roberts playing off Griffiths…….genuine wide men that are happy to sit out wide to spread the play and therefore make space for others, but have the instinct to come inside for their own shot at glory when the times right.

As much as possession fitba is in vogue and passing the ba aboot all day long keeps the ba…….i don’t think theres very many defenders that like, let alone can handle a man running at em and those 2 bhoys can do it.

    If it works?
