Summer of the long Copa

Canada face Venezuela overnight in a game which if the South Americans lose, will see the final Celtic player break for the summer.  Even if Canada are eliminated in the small hours of Saturday morning, Alistair Johnston will have a short break before picking up for the new term.  Venezuela topped their group with maximum points, so will start favourites.

Celtic’s first competitive game is four weeks away, while the squad head to the USA in less than a fortnight.  Brendan Rodgers could be tempted to start the season with Anthony Ralston at right back to extend Johnston’s break.

Alistair has played every minute of Canada’s campaign, whereas Cameron Carter-Vickers Copa America experience with the USA was limited to one substitute appearance.  Neither will be properly rested for the new campaign, no matter how much extended leave Brendan allows.

Glad you got the emergency treatment you needed, my experience is mine so nothing to do with you.”

Sorry . I thought you said something along the lines of ANYONE who felt the NHS was fine was living in a fantasy land.

Also, I qualified my view by saying that your view may well be correct but that my own experience was good .

  5. Africa and FC Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o has paid a glowing tribute to Celtic FC icon Henrik Larsson in a recent interview when asked about his biggest inspirations as a player.

He said: “One player who had a big impact on my career was Henrik Larsson.

“When he joined from Celtic we, of course, all knew he was a great player but the impact he had on our dressing room is something that can’t be explained.

“By the end of his first season we all looked up to him so much that Ronaldinho and some of the senior players nicknamed him “Idolo” meaning “the idol”.

“Personally he taught me how to become invisible and how to make other players forget about me.

“He showed me how to disappear in the eyes of the defenders but always to keep running and be available.

“I learned from him about patience and composure in front of goal and overall how to work for the team and bring others into play.

“It was no coincidence that the Champions League final changed when he was brought to the pitch, we struggled to find space and fell 1-0 down to Arsenal but once Idolo came on within 15 minutes he had created two chances for us and got two vital assists for us to score and win the game 2-1.

“That was the most important goal, most important win and most important moment of my career and I owe it all to Henrik.

“When he arrived we had no La Liga titles in a decade and no Champions League titles since 1992 but within two seasons of him arriving we earned both as a team.

“When he left Camp Nou he was a hero to the Barca support but just as much to the players.

“It’s no surprise that the young players in that squad like Xavi, Iniesta and of course Messi went on to continue the success of our side after training with a teacher like Larsson. He was our Idolo.”

If that’s how it reads ‘to you’ then it’s pointless engaging you further. Please don’t confuse my lack of further replies to you as being discourteous, it’s purely because I’ve concluded you are being deliberately obtuse and have nothing further to offer. I do hope you enjoy the 2024 – 2025 season.

  10. Poor game. Lawal and Holm the only ones really showing promise. Both should be given opportunities to stake a claim preseason and if they can’t break through get them out on loan to the highest level in England that’s on offer
