Sunshine amid murky football shadows

Before we get down to less important matters, let me know, did you buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas?

There are so many reasons to be cynical about football people (players, directors and fans alike) in the modern era it is scarcely worth listing them but occasionally a pillar of strength comes along and changes all the rules.

This morning’s headlines that Georgios Samaras has attracted interest from an English slumbering giant is reason enough to highlight the dedication of this model professional.  Georgios arrived at Celtic on loan in January 2008 and was instrumental in the historic league win that year.  When he completed his permanent transfer from Manchester City he took an enormous cut in wages because he wanted to be a Celtic player.

Thanks for the great support for the CQN Annual. You can order online here, time is running out for shipping before Christmas!

His talent and effectiveness has meandered, a bit like those looping runs he would go on with the ball, since then and for a while he was subject to considerable abuse from ‘supporters’.  At one point he had the chance to leave but his message to Celtic was simple, ‘If you want me to stay, I’ll stay and fight for my place.  This is my club’.

The story of the rebirth of Celtic is also the story of the rebirth of Georgios Samaras.  He is the epitome of the modern footballer: strong, skilful and intelligent, he would get into any top squad in Europe.

There is no chance of him going to England, Celtic will not sell him and even if they accepted a bid, the player shows no inclination of wanting to leave.  He is currently prime candidate for Player of the Year and is our most feared player in the Champions League.

You have six days to buy Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in support of Celtic Charity and Teenage Cancer.  This is what we’re all about, don’t talk to me about football until I hear from you on the subject that really matters.

  1. Just popped in to say Happy Birthday MWD and that I downloaded Rod’s single yesterday. Spent the weekend in Cologne with Mrs PMTYH, at the Christmas markets, and watched the game in the Corkonian. Met a long time CQN lurker who never posts, more the pity, who recommended a good Thai restaurant. So if you are looking in thanks Ross, I’ll catch up with you next time I’m in Cologne. Also thanks again to TTT for his steakhouse recommendation.

As regards Sammi, always liked him despite frustrating me on several occasions but you don’t get picked regularly by your national team, I except Scotland here, unless you have something about you.

Snow predicted for Arbroath on Wednesday, is the game in danger of being cancelled?

I can think of a few in Section 108 who would slag him off if he gets 5

  5. Listening to sportsound, talking about Ryan Fraser not signing a new contract for Aberdeen. I know there was a Media House fantasy story in today’s rags, but hopefully we are making enquiries. Cracking player from what I’ve seen, a proper winger who has pace to burn and possesses the dying art of dribbling. Fits into our signing model as well.

  6. My Dear,Dear Friend….Auldheid….

Totally Agree With Your Assessment Of Georgios’ Attitude In Previous Seasons…

‘Lackadaisical’….Don’t Think That This Word Derives From Greek….

    But It Should..!

I Think That Georgios’ New-Found Enthusiasm And Determination…

Is A Direct Result Of A Change In Tactics That SPL Defenders Use To Stop Him…

In Earlier Seasons,They Would Kick And Trip Him Up….

    And Push Him Over….

However,In The Past Couple Of Seasons..

They Have Changed Focus And Targeted His Head And Flowing Mane..

He Has Been Kicked,Elbowed..And Been Punched In The Face….

    And Poked In The Eye..(Ouch!)

His Nose Has Been Battered And Bloodied…

As A Result….His ‘Adonis Looks’ Are Fast Fading…..

And He Is Starting To Look A Wee Bit Ravaged….

With His Hairline Looking A Wee Bit Dodgy….

And He Has Made The Necessary Psychological Adjustment….

Why does he have to replace anyone? Its a squad game, this season more than any has proven that given the amount of players who’ve made appearances so far.

Forrest is our only winger at the moment, and with him out more often than not with injury this season, we have had no options to play a similar type player in the team. Not nearly as good as Forrest yet but would be a good understudy.

Agreed mate, the boy looks a player and we should definitely be involved if he’s leaving the sheep

    canamalar

Who says he has to replace anyone, he’d give us another option, maybe him on one side and James on the other…and who knows, might push wee James onto the next level?!

    Kayal33,

IMO Matthews is a better winger than Forrest, being a specialist is no good enough any more, now if your worried he might go to the fourth tier then he’s no worth bothering about, shows a complete lack of ambition.

  12. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Henkes….,

We’ve got Sammi on the other side, however if our scouting team decide he’s worth a pop, I’ll go with that.

The zombies story is media house fantasy, they’ve got shares to sell.

IMO we need another winger, not necessarily as a first pick but as a back up to Forrest or another option for home league games where we are struggling to break teams down.

Mackay-Steven would be my first choice but DU would probably want silly money, the boy Fraser looks a prospect and at £250k ish compensation would be worth a punt

  14. Ally now demands to know which “Rangers” the 67 have got the beef with ?

    I’d like to know too.

    Funny ole game, soccerball.

  15. evening fellow champions leagueists,

big Sammi keeps taken responsibility and does anyone else think Adam Mathews is feeling the benefit a certain Daniel Fergus Mc Grain in my opinion. Was impressed with saturdays performance.Keep it up Celtic.

  16. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Kayal33,

As I said we’ve got another in Matthews, also McGeogh can play on the wing 11wingers might encourage Forrest, but until he stops saving himself he’s no good enough, shirking 60/40 tackles shows lack of commitment.

  17. Ole Jonny Beattie is doing well. I remember he used to host Archbishop Winnings Charity do’s in a hotel (canny remember the name) in Glasgow in the 80s. I know he did because I played in the band every year. Stoatin guy.

All the better for turning up :oD))) when that guy turns his nose up at you you know you’ve been snubbed

  19. Gorgeous Georgios

I’ve said here many a time that the big fellow is a confidence player similar if you like to Torres of Chelsea. Give the guy a hard time and it shows. Encourage him and it shows too! The big stick approach is all very well but does not suit all, especially Big Sammi. He as we all know is not an out and out striker and his best perfomances come when he is played out wide left but the thinh I just love about him is he is honest and does not hide and the main thing, like me and all of you on here, he LOVES Celtic. That’s enough for me.

  21. Sorry (?) to mention the horrors that is the t’rankers mob again, but my poor wee mind’s been exercised by how it is possible for that many people to be collectively deluded, psychosed and in denial as they are. It’s not because they’re fans of a particular football team and all that that entails ( look at Leeds, Portsmouth et al).

It ‘s because they are in the grip of the kind of insanity that can infect entire nations, such as Nazi Germany (it being the most notorious) when they are caught up in mass hysteria, propaganda, a cheerleading msm, and governing bodies which turn a blind eye, and in the worst excesses, actually acquiesce to the twisted desires of the violently insane, It’s the fear of fear….the cowardice to confront the merchants of unrest at the heart of the storm.

And so they are allowed to peddle their crazy notions until, like all inherently false beliefs, it all implodes and they are left in tatters, confronted by their own stupidity. No one else’s. Their own. Alone. They are not ra peepil….they are the mob.

    Just thinking out loud…..
