Support and paradoxical intent

594

I suppose it is inevitable, this far into a period of domination, that draws and defeats attract disproportionate criticism.  We are not used to defeats, recently we have not even been used to a season without a treble, so reactions to dropping five points in a week have few reference points.

In the social media era, players are not immune to what is being said about them, some of them no doubt reflecting on years of successful service behind them, who perhaps feel deserted when the call was made.

I know what you’re thinking, this is classic paradoxical intent.  We react to that which makes us anxious in a way that can only increase our anxiety.

Neil Lennon is dealing with the absence of Forrest, Edouard, Johnston, Jullien, Bitton, Elhamed and Barkas, and easing the return to fitness of Ajeti, Christie and Griffiths, while hurting at some painful results.

We travel to France tomorrow then back in the early hours of Friday before it all goes on the line, again, at Hampden on Sunday.  All while Aberdeen rest and prepare.  In these circumstances, this is a tough ask.  Tougher still without support, and I don’t mean supporters, I mean actual support.  This is a no-brainer time, circle the wagons and get back to doing what we always do.

  1. Adi – no as she has no symptoms as of yet and hope she doesn’t.

    According to Martin😂

    D :)

  2. I fully expect us to lose tomorrow.

So do the bookies who have Lille at 4/6 with us at 17/4 and the draw at 17/5

Oddschecker have selected out game as one of their heavy TIPS and include us in a treble accumulator with

Hoffenheim to win away at Gent

and Leverkusen to win away at Sparta Prague.

I know we need to find signs of more solidifyng form from Celtic but I will not lose much sleep over a defeat unless we are totally abject.

P.S. I was thinking that for the Aberdeen game we were asking for Neil Lennon to produce another of those Killie 2011 tpe of performances.

Well, he did just that – we got a 3:3 draw and almost lost it in the last minute when the opposition squandered a good chance :-)

    What? Too Soon?

  3. How James Forrest is still allowed to post his flyers on here says more about our host than him I suppose 🤷‍♀️😉

I see that ex-ref Davie Syme has passed away

*wonder if Jock will be standing at the pearly gates waiting on him and pointing doon the way saying “yer faither will be proud of you”.

Noticed that video celts and Celtic blog aka James Forrest have stopped you accessing their blogs if you use a browser with ad blocker on it, like Brave. Took it off and like this site , if you do its unreadable , own goal big style by those bhoys, will not be back😵😱

  7. Some cricketers take it to excess………………….

Amunugama Rajapakse Rajakaruna Abeykoon Panditha Wasalamudiyanse Ralahamilage Rajitha Krishantha Bandara Amunugama, to put things simply, holds the record for most initials of a First-Class cricketer. Probably out of mercy towards scorers and statisticians across the world, he had abbreviated his full name to Rajitha Amunugama, but scorecards still carry an emphatic ARRAPWRRKB Amunugama

  8. Somebody asked earlier today about young Dembele and should we think about playing him in Forrest’s absence, tonight Barca played 17 year old Pedri and the boy was outstanding they also brought on another 17 year old late in the game , if they’re good enough play them

  9. Park Road 67,

I think you may be talking about me.

I’m happy to give him a game, in fact I’d be delighted to see him get game time.

My concern is more about us relying heavily on a youngster – much as we rely heavily on Frimpong.

If they are a part of a well worked team great, if they are relied upon to be our saviour not so much…

  10. FAIRHILL BHOY:

Classy as ever. I have one question for you: do you work for free? No?

Then maybe you want to clamp it.

    PRESTONPANS BHOYS:

Blatantly untrue. You are ASKED if you’d like to support the sites by turning the ad-blocker off … you are not REQUIRED to turn them off to access the site. That is an outright falsehood and I’m happy to set the record straight. You aren’t getting away with my man.

  11. MAJESTIC HARTSON

Good point about Karamoko maybe when things hopefully improve and we get back to winning ways we can give him some game time

it is interesting with james forrest and the blogosphere in general.in recent weeks the rush to out-rekkkord the rekkkord and outscum the sun.

In my opinion a lot started as an antidote to the type of headlines(thugs and theives) portrayed on msm they are now vying with them to put the boot in.I seen a should he stay/go poll on a renowned site.they argue it is their right to put the boot in.sad.utter hunnish behaviour.

james forrest site, hysterical at times, flacking like a wummin who has lost her purse.i find the english tabloidesque.maybe limiting output and increasing quality on that output

    would do james a favour.

just my view,i only manage to post in between 60 hours working week,i suppose its different when you run the blog.

  13. Unbelievable. On the day I post an article about the enemy within and how Celtic fans should treat each other with more respect and not flay each other for differing views the response is what you can see above.

And its personal invective, not one iota of constructive criticism about it.

Absolutely personal. I’d ask what I’ve done to these people to generate these kind of hateful responses.

    But truthfully? I don’t give a shit.

Now I’m scum to one of them. There’s nothing I can say to counter that, nothing I can say to argue with it, so why bother even to try? The vile comments above are embematic of what a lot of the Celtic bloggers have to deal with from their own side; absolute spite and venom spitting.

    And because of what?

You know why I don’t care what their problem with me is? In part it’s because I actually know what it is and really it isn’t worth debating about.

I’ll leave it with this; apparently I’ve “outscumed the scum” this week.

And the person who wrote that has accused me of being hysterical and “putting the boot in.”

You literally could not make that up.

My plea for people to treat each other with respect has, at least on this site, fallen COMPLETELY on deaf ears. And that’s enough for me tonight, I’m out.

Because honestly, life is too short for this kind of bullshit.
