Support and paradoxical intent

594

I suppose it is inevitable, this far into a period of domination, that draws and defeats attract disproportionate criticism.  We are not used to defeats, recently we have not even been used to a season without a treble, so reactions to dropping five points in a week have few reference points.

In the social media era, players are not immune to what is being said about them, some of them no doubt reflecting on years of successful service behind them, who perhaps feel deserted when the call was made.

I know what you’re thinking, this is classic paradoxical intent.  We react to that which makes us anxious in a way that can only increase our anxiety.

Neil Lennon is dealing with the absence of Forrest, Edouard, Johnston, Jullien, Bitton, Elhamed and Barkas, and easing the return to fitness of Ajeti, Christie and Griffiths, while hurting at some painful results.

We travel to France tomorrow then back in the early hours of Friday before it all goes on the line, again, at Hampden on Sunday.  All while Aberdeen rest and prepare.  In these circumstances, this is a tough ask.  Tougher still without support, and I don’t mean supporters, I mean actual support.  This is a no-brainer time, circle the wagons and get back to doing what we always do.

  3. IF The Scot Gov decide that Pubs can Reopen, but must close at 6pm…But are NOT allowed to sell Alcohol during those times, then not only will it be Barmy, but I would EXPECT Journalists etc to ask wee Nicola and her Cohorts ” Live On Air”,………” Wouldnt this be a complete smokescreen, as why attempting to help Pubs etc, the Scot Gov would be denying Pubs etc their Legal Right to Ply their Trade, and also how many Pubs etc WOULD actually reopen and Pay for staff, heating, lighting etc etc. while ONLY serving Soft Drinks…that just wouldnt be Viable for any Pub surely” ?

In effect, IF the above becomes the “New Rule” for now, NOT many ( IF Any) Pubs etc would bother to reopen.

  4. If my memory serves me well, Eddie missed games for us because he tested positive for Covid during a football trip to France. He is, apparently, alright now so what are we doing? Sending him to France again !!!

I agree that the Pub regulations seem strange but I am presuming the Government offered reasons for this strategy. Any idea?

  6. Did the overnight posters all sit in a wee semi circle and take turns telling of their reasons why they don’t like to be on CQN?

FFS. Get a life. It’s a bunch of men with silly monikers chewing the cud. Use the search facility and go back to the days of yore when the supposed quality was greater. Nostalgia bores the lot of ya.

Not your cup of tea? There are other blogs available of it’s getting you down. Honestly, what’s the point.

Anyway, hoping for a respectable draw tonight, some coaching competence on show and no blinking virus cases reported.

  7. I can sit in the hoose and drink Soft Drinks all day long if I wish, and I certainly wouldnt visit any Pub to sit and drink Soft drinks only…and give them my Cash….as I probably wouldnt have anyone to chat too either cos very few folk that I know, would visit a Pub and just drink soft drinks…the Punters that I know enjoy their Beer, Whisky etc.

I hope and pray that IF the Pubs ARE allowed to reopen ( even until 6pm)…they can sell Alcohol…anything else would be a complete waste of time.

Old machrahanish has a lot of blind driving holes, the second shot to the second is a brute you need to get plenty lift as you are playing up a steep hill, good fun though the full course, give yourself plenty driving time to get down the mull of kintyre.

    ……….

Good point mate, I had forgotten about Eddys case/situation.

IF the scot govt allow Pubs to reopen etc etc…But Pubs are NOT allowed to sell alcohol, then its a Feckin Bad Joke, as to me I would take the view that the Scot Gov would be trying to be seen to ” Helping Pubs etc” in these horrible times….and if/WHEN many Pubs dont bother to re open for good reasons ( NOT Viable to do soetc )…If the Pubs then start to moan and complain the Scot Govt can simply say…” Its up to you if you want to re open or not…we have tried to help you, and now you are refusing that help” ?

That would be a complete Smokescreen by the Scot Govt…I do hope that is NOT the case ?

Both great courses and both weather dependant on the enjoyment and difficulty level. It’s a pity this weekend is looking like making both quite challenging.I,ve always been a member at Machrihanish so maybe a wee bit bias in preffering it,Dunes is longer and you did right booking caddies.

I live in Campbeltown so may be able to advise you on your drinking strategy if you tell me where you,re staying. Also, most golfers mistakenly browse past Dunaverty which is a cracking wee 18 hole course on the East side of the Mull.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  11. Big J

Yes, that was my kind of thinking as well re the pubs. Surely the Gov`t would not be so duplicitous? :-))))

  12. I was really torn over the last week with my general support for Lennie and the team being pushed to the limit by recent performances. However listening to “journalists” on shortbread this morning who have never said a critical word about Gerrard discussing whether Lennie should be sacked has put everything into perspective and all is well in my world again.

    GIRUY huns.

  14. lets all do the huddle on

the reaso for closing pubs and restaurants and not allowing cafes to sell booze is purely political

it doesnt take a genius to work out that schools, universities, supermarkets and house visiting will be the overwhelming cause of covid spread

but if governments arent going to close those things then they need a headline act or they will be accussed of doing nothing and so pubs and restaurants are it

after the last round of restrictions the risk in these places must be tiny compared to those other arenas i have mentioned so it is purely political and will have minimal impact on infection numbers while the big hitters are still open

  15. Bike ride for me.

Two miles for each pint Big Jimmy would be having if allowed :-))

    Cheerio for now.

  16. Games like tonight is where Forster’s presence is most keenly missed. Trying to be positive tonight but there’s no way Bain is making the necessary saves to keep us in this game.

  17. The hand of God on

Our Europa league group is fairly similar to last years..a team flying high in Italy on a great unbeaten run a team from France near the top of their league and a very decent eastern European side.We had a fantastic group stage last year including a 1-1 draw away in France…would happily accept that tonight.

  18. Saddened to hear of the passing of Bobby Ball – Veteran Comedian and Albert Kidd impersonator.

Cannon and Ball’s shows were in my twilight zone of just back from the game and going back out again.

Are house visits are now banned in much of Scotland.

Schools and supermarkets have to stay open. Universities maybe not so much.

The additional risks to public health from pubs and restaurants being open outweighs any wider economic or social benefit. The special pleading should be ignored.

have you been to any pubs or restaurants in the couple of months before they were shut again?

even the most determined coronavirus would have struggled to infect anyone in them after the last round of restrictions but nicola didnt even wait for the results of her own restrictions before telling restaurants and pubs that they had to close again

    pure political window dressing

  22. Loved Lenny calling out the media for their all-new levels of bun-flavoured BS; Neilly was in fair and good fettle.

Meanwhile, If you thought our board were gambling with oor Lenny…

over on JuveQuickNews, the Bianconeri faithful are citing Pirlo’s body lingo, beard length, general demeanour and touchline attire as clear indicators he doesn’t have what it takes to deliver “I dieci’ in their historic season.

Maybe good that the pubs in Campbelltown will be closed because its a most rabid hun-hole of the first order.

A bit of a Wild West town that was used to battling with the US servicemen from the airbase

Well thats what it was like in the 90’s when we were there tree-planting . Cant imagine its changed.

where is the evidence to support that view?

if they had shut the schools and universities for 1 year, and then picked up again would it have made much difference? 1 year out, in a life expectancy of about 75 or 80 years

and would have immediately cut off what surely are by far the major spreader arenas of the virus

but thats not really my point, which is if you arent going to close the major spreader arenas then dont just pick on other areas just to make headlines and political window dressing that wont make a jot of difference to infection rates especially considering the restrictions that were already in place in them

    we will agree to differ…

This is supposed to be a Celtic page, right? One big happy family?

    Still, you know what?

Today I’ll do what it is that I always do … stand up for the club, shooting back at its enemies in the media and elsewhere, poking the Sevconuts with a big stick, under my own name. Then the annonymous snipers on here having a go from the safety of their pseudonyms can tell the rest of you why it was all shite and why I’m actually a fifth columnist and an enemy of the club.

All I’m going to say is that I find it all a bit pathetic.

Neil Lennon and the Scottish media.

When I think back to the period when Lenny, along with other Celtic employee’s and prominent fans, were recieving death threats and bullets in the post, it still leaves me with an uneasy feeling.

There’s no doubt Lenny was the Loyalist Hun supporting bastards main target, and that opinion was confirmed when Celtic had to actually hire a bodyguard to protect him. Even worse, was when the Police had to move his family from their home because they considered there was a definite and viable threat against Lenny’s life.

If further confirmation was needed it was certainly confirmed when he was actually assaulted at the side pitch during a game at Tynecastle.

Again thinking back to those dark times, memories come flooding back like, do you remember the tone of the media reports regarding these incidents at the time? Do you remember some reporters/pundits from TV/radio and print wanted Lenny done for supposedly retaliating when the nutter at Tynecastle attacked him from behind?

Do you remember the collective media narrative of “He brings it on himself”?

Do you remember the print media and official web sites constantly using photographs of a snarling Neil Lennon for virtually every story regarding Celtic?

Do you remember the Clyde SSB, the Real Radio phone in’s, and Jabba’s “Your call” slot on BBC radio Scotland, all allowing Hun callers a free reign to spit vile abuse in Lenny’s direction, whilst trying to sell the agenda that the uppity Fenian bastard brought it all on himself?

Do you remember when Lenny was lied to by a referee, and when the club rightfully complained to the SFA Lenny was blamed as main villain when Referee’s and officials went on strike

Worst of all, do you remember when ex players and supposed Celtic fans in print, on the radio, and on TV agreeing with the campaign narrative that ” Yes, Neil brings it on himself”?

Lenny didn’t do the easy thing by turning tail and running back then, and I don’t expect him to do it now.

So instead of focusing on our fear of not doing the 10, it’s time to get right behind both him and the players. We need to try and find ways to send all of them our messages of support. We need to stop doing our enemies work for them and try to promote an air of positivity.

We can’t afford to be fractured this season more than any other.
