Supporters Association launch at Holyrood

850

The Scottish Football Supporters’ Association (SFSA), an independent body of pan-club football fans, yesterday launched the first independent evaluation of Scottish football governance, at Holyrood.

The SFSA’s nationwide survey will assess, for the first time, supporters’ views on the current position of the game, including the performance of the game’s governing bodies in Scotland.  The research will become an annual benchmarking & reporting exercise looking at all aspects of the game.

The SFSA’s online survey has been created in partnership with Prof. Dr. Axel Faix and Dr. Joachim Lammert, two experienced German academics who have undertaken similar evaluations on a national level in Germany and on a European level.

The SFSA, whose board includes former First Minister Henry McLeish; former MP and MSP Cathy Jamieson and Maureen McGonigle, Founder of Scottish Women in Sport and first female Scottish FA Council Member, has over 67,000 members supporting clubs across Scotland.

The SFSA is Scotland’s fans’ representative in The Football Supporters Europe network (FSE), an independent, representative and democratically organised grass-roots network of football fans’ in Europe with members in currently 48 countries across the continent.

You have invited to Have Your Say by getting involved with the project here.

Most importantly, you can participate in the survey itself here.

    That would be my guess.

  2. The various views on the GB on here today are interesting. My view is they made a mistake the other night.

The imagery used lacked any subtlety and allowed the message to be lost in the deflected noise.

In the case of the support for Palestine the use of flags made a strong and important point about support

that could not be deflected as sectarian or some other such tosh.

I believe the GB are a net gain for the club and they should be supported.

That doesn’t necessarily mean approval of everything they do, but support none the less.

They are often on the edge, but that’s not a bad place to be.

If you don’t make mistakes you’re not trying hard enough.

    I agree

  4. All the fines dished out to Celtic during the two Linfield ties can be summed up thus:

Football fans of clubs all over Europe, and indeed the world use the nature of their support to make various statements political, or otherwise. The nature of those statements, or protest should are well documented.

From what I can ascertain, these protests are regarded by the clubs, the media and society at large as part of the game. Even here in the US, the genteel MLS fans are fond of a wee banner, pyro, or naughty chant.

The fundamental differenice is that Celtic are held to a much higher standard than the norm. Over the past few seasons this has been particularly evident. Gutter media hysteria hits new levels as soon as our fans raise their heads above the parapet, despite UEFA fining many clubs over the varying levels of transgression. Far greater incidents of rule breaking than our own, in the eyes of UEFA, are happening every week with hardly a whimper of outrage in the press.

Irrespective of your views on fan conduct, this media campaign to smear Celtic’s reputation continues.

On a personal level, are you comfortable with this policy of singling us out in the gutter media, and why should we be held to a higher standard?

    No worries.

Ive been ranting about how the racial abuse of SS has been ignored.

But the Huns make sure we get punished for a few banners, the PLC keep bending over.

Seemingly you can do anything you like to Celtic players, throw bottles, racial abuse, and nothing will happen.

  12. Looking at the list of UEFA offenders, its as I said,we are nowhere near a stand, ground closure. The greetin teenies on shouting about this have no idea of the amount of fines clubs get.Its UEFA who are at fault. No clear rules, discriminating against some, not others and vice versa.A shambles.

In saying that,I am still raging the Griff was not supported by Celtic on the ridiculous charge.he took a scarf, thrown from his own fans, and tied it to the goalpost in front of them.Showing a bottle that was thrown at him to the Ref earned him a yellow, and Celtic a fine.

Ridiculous, but I have come to the conclusion that most clubs now just accept the fines, and move on.

This SFM post is essential reading for those really interested in justice in Scottish football. Can I encourage everyone on CQN to join the SFSA as many of us have already and please complete their survey as over 3,00 have since yesterday.

  15. BMCUW @ 1:57 PM,

Well, this is a passionate issue no doubt but you have indicated quite clearly there, there are agitators with an agenda against Celtic.

We have seen quite clearly what the “vested interests” will do to aid & abet Rangers. This is no longer a case of paranoia or surmised conjecture it has been incontrovertibly stated and acted upon.

Trying to get a team a called Rangers to a Competitive position is proving impossible for them. Dragging down Celtic is now part of their agenda.

Why would we play into their hands by giving them ammunition.

  16. DBHOY on 21ST JULY 2017 3:19 PM

Agreed, the direction and nature of Celtic fans’ protest seems to needle and outrage corporate media’s agenda and focus like no other.

Despite the boundaries of free speech within the confines of Paradise remaining a contentious for some, I would argue that corporate media equates to fake news, and them sitting in judgement as what comprises free speech in any arena is both ludicrous and hilarious.

Should we concern ourselves with the opinions of those that deliberately manufacture and manipulate the minds of the population at large?

  17. From a review of The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus.

“The gods had condemned Sisyphus to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain, whence the stone would fall back of its own weight. They had thought with some reason that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor.”

  18. Imatim wants justice and the titles to be stripped from the cheats on

It has to be apparent to us all that there is an orchestrated campaign to undermine our Club whenever and wherever possible.

To say the gutter press and their acolytes are on song and indeed on message is an understatement.

Knowing this why oh why can’t we box clever and be inventive rather than be predictable.

I share many of the views of the Green Brigade and those of a Republican persuasion but I see no benefit in aiding and abetting the parasites whose sole purpose is to undermine Celtic at every opportunity.

It’s time to wisen up Bhoys.

We can get our message out there without harming the Club we all love.

So how about us using our foresight and intelligence and giving these low life’s nothing but our humour and contempt.

Been a fair time since last posted…old age doesn’t come on it’s own! Not been in best of health.

Anyway what I’m enquiring about is the current projection of which Pot in Champions League Group stages are we most likely to enter if we qualify? I remember there was one of our many contributors who was clued up on all the permutations.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how our Invincibles perform on the big stage again.

Not sure Irish Politics were reason for our founding – more Charity, Benevolence and good Chrisian values. I don’t square any of that with the displays and singing I heard on Wednesday. In my view we were brought down to their level.

Is it boxing clever to alter our philosophy and the public face we attach to that, or are we cowering dogs, acquiescing to corporate media’s hysteria and agenda?

  24. Great reply from the SNP!, thx for your email ,membership cancelled. Don’t even have the guts or common decency to reply properly to the points raised. Some hun lickspittle no doubt. Green Brigade- wow did you see that banner(that no one understood), yeah that was me, wow what a hero. did you see that banner so and so flew, guys a hero. I love the green brigade, but thought they possessed some intellect, wrong again I guess, just out to impress some wee laddies, and playing the establishment game, by the establishments rules. Bad enough the Celtic board doing that!.

  25. in a fair society the point may have had some traction, but come on. The huns threw missiles and sang their songs, irish huns did the same, press look the other way. Giving them a stick to beat with is folly.

1.5million euros, plus a base fee for teams reaching Group Phase, about 13 million euros, I think.

  27. IMO, what chaps the erchie of the media more then anything, is the positive force that the collective of Celtic is.

Wherever Tims are present, good things happen. Folk party, form lifelong bonds of friendship, and generally leave the building in a better state than how they found it. In addition the charitable contribution Celtic makes through the Club and from fans at times is astonishing. More than anything, this seeems to rattle the cage of the media’s focus on carnage, negativity and austerity.

Wee case in point. I was down at the Westgate last week having a beer, the venue of the NAFCSC conference. The bartenders couldn’t stop waxing lyrical over the good impression that green clad attendees had left on them, sober and foo. :-)
