Sure things don’t exist in football

724

St Mirren lost at Tynecastle in November, their fifth consecutive in the league, but since then they have lost only twice: at Celtic Park and last Saturday, when the roof fell in against Ross County.  During that run they recorded good wins against Dundee United and Motherwell.  They sit second bottom of the league but this is an incredibly tight league.  Saints are as close to bottom Dundee as they are to second top Inverness.  In straightforward terms, St Mirren are a form team.

Anyone who believes Celtic are a sure thing better think again.

Remember the days when it would be impossible to get past 8pm and still not know Montrose earlier took a point at Ibrox? Sign of the times it wasn’t really news, I suppose.

    BMCUW,

    You’ve lost me,

I asked you why you believe I was backing an establishment argument about Burns when IMO the Burns story is completely establishment driven, with me questioning a few of the establishment myths.

praecepta – note the number of winning drop shots since Andy got the treatment.

Noticed that and also that Murray has tried to maintain a central position on the base line the further the match has gone.

Expect Andy to try and blaze his way out of this last game!

  6. SNP U Turn on the Offensive behaviour legislation?

MINISTERS were last night slammed after launching a £200,000 probe over fears the government blitz on footie bigots is a FLOP.

The SNP pushed through the crackdown on sectarianism at matches despite opposition from campaigners and supporters.

But after eight months, there were just 34 convictions under the legislation.

Now they have announced a three-year study to see if the law has been effective.

Tory chief whip John Lamont said: “It seems utterly bizarre to introduce a controversial piece of legislation, wait to see it fail, then ask people what they think.

“This is work that should have been done before the SNP went to the trouble of bringing it in. It was always an unnecessary law, and this has made it even more laughable.”

Labour’s justice spokesman Lewis Macdonald added: “We don’t want an exercise in self-justification, paid for by SNP ministers who railroaded this measure though with no regard for the many critics.”

The Offensive Behaviour at Football Act came into force in March and gives police and prosecutors more powers to crack down on sectarian songs at games and abuse and threats posted online. It created two new offences with a maximum penalty of five years behind bars and an unlimited fine.

Third parties have been now invited to bid for the contract to study whether the legislation is working.

A spokesman for the Scottish Government said: “While it is early days, the legislation is being used to good effect by the Crown Office and police.”

I don’t need a study …the Act is appalling an the resources given to plod to pursue it are a complete waste of money

Unfortunately a example of the SNPs rush to enact pointless legislation …their thirst to exercise their legislative power has caused them to loose all perspective

Lendl has a lot of work to do! Those final two sets, it was the old Andy – negative body language, limping after losing various points, poor first serve, etc.

As he proved in the Olympics and winning his first Grand Slam in NY, he’s capable of better.

Can’t see him winning the French, due to the surface, so the target has to be Wimbledon.

  12. Can’t fault Murray – 3 slam finals in-a-row (+ Olympic).

Had a chance in 2nd set but didn’t take it – was given the run-around from then on and the foot and the hamstring didn’t help.

Good game – well played both of them.
