Sustainable, successful, team development

799

There are several parts of Tuesday’s performance which could be improved upon, parts which will be exposed by the rigours of Champions League football, but we looked like an experienced European team, one who could go away from home, roll with the early season uncertainties, but still have enough in the tank to win comfortably.

For the last couple of years we have watched a team mature while Neil Lennon has continued to add young blood to the squad.  Fraser Forster has become an adept shot-stopper, puncher and kicker-with-both-feet.  Joe Ledley has developed into a disciplined anchor in midfield while Adam Matthews, Victor Wanyama and Beram Kayal have progressed even quicker than I am sure the manager expected.

Last season’s Europa League campaign contributed significantly to the development.  The team seemed to grow a few inches during the home win over Rennes, which propelled them onto the league title.  A Champions League examination will present no fears but will expedite progress.

We could be on the verge of the first sustainable, successful, team development plan in 40 years, one that delivers titles, significant progress in Europe and lives within its means.

Not sure, had a great time there, was playing with Our Lady’s High in the morning and them in the afternoon, modern footballers have it easy!

See that’s what I thought. Why then are the SFL/SFA promoting this charade of illusionary continuity? It stinks. Like a kipper down a dossers y’fronts for a week. Really stinks! Why are UEFA not bringing these turds to task?

    Off to make the dinner!

  6. Regarding Dempsey my point being apart from Man U in England what other club could sell as many jerseys in this market, its all about the fit and in my opinion this makes business sense.

If PL is the man taking us on global marketing exercises then like the Naka signing we should make sure we have the marketable attributes but greater in terms of audience. We have a diaspora in the US with both Scottish & Irish fans and supporters clubs, to win a new audience of Americans interested in soccer we have to think bigger and this could be it with a world cup in Brazil on the horizon. If we can offer Dempsey (irish blood somewhere) CL football, 60k watching him every 2weeks and a cut of merchandising.

He’s on £25k a week they say he wants £50k a week so as he’s unhappy Fulham may accept £6m from us as we’re no competition and he can’t come back to haunt them otherwise.

So offer him £30k/wk and with image rights like Naka we could make it work say 20,000 jerseys at £50 in the States sales per year would get him near his £50k/week, play Barcelona there next year, branding, profile, TV, advertising etc.

What do you think could it work?

I think ’95-’96 was Tommy’s closest thing and we lost 1 game that season (and the league by 4 points) …

Yup. Had the CVA been agreed then it was the same club that would continue because the creditors approved of the plan to recompense them.

They thought it “light” and so signalled disapproval Greene was hugely disappointed that a CVA was not agreed

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/charles-green-statement-on-hmrc-decision.1339498337 and if I remember corectly he was wanting a CVA precisely because it preserved Rangers history and would not have required the question of their SPL existence to have been raised. Not so clear on the UEFA position had there been accounts available but there was not because by then it had become a basket case.

  10. Some folks need to get a bit of a reality check. It was hard enough to get guys to come to the SPL when we had at least 4 games against that other team, so we need to stop deluding ourselves that guys like Dempsey and Berbetov will come north of the border.

Yes it would be nice, but it is never going to happen.

We need to be focusing on young up and coming talents who are not quite ready for the EPL yet. These may be home grown or bought in from somewhere else. Give them experience & exposure and if a great offer comes in then sell them on for the right price.

Was that a 1-0 home defeat to the deid club with Laudrup scoring in a breakaway?

  12. Well if PL wants to crack open the States he’s going to have to use a different crowbar!

  13. Players who cost £6.5 million want wages commensurate . That means £35 k plus a week . We don’t pay that, and neither should we.

Let’s keep it real. Our Formula is

    5 x Wanyama type players+ 2 Academy + 2 x Commons Type + 2 x Forster type = solvently successful

Sell some of the Wanyama type and reinvest to get more Academy and more Wanyama

No need to buy big. What we need is a Commons category centre back, and a Wanyama type striker

Eventually the balance sheet will support getting in Wanyama + type players and the Academy will be full of Forrest’s and Twardzicks, rather than them being the exception

    Auldheid,

    cheers, following this wee train

if the club is seperate from the owning company, it would then follow that the club is responsible for its own finances, staff wages, stadium maintenance, training facility maintenance, so players wages being the centre of the tax evasion scandal, then the club is the responsible culprit, as registration and compliance requirements demand the club own thus pay the players and not a third party.

The owning company have other issues HMRC are investigating, but the club have been caught red handed evading the tax responsibilities for their employee’s :o)

I always liked a nice malt and had a go at Highland Park for a couple of years, nice, but I wanted another taste,I’ve supped most malts over the years, but was watching the hairy bikers cooking show and they were in Campbeltown, and they had a tour of the distillery,So I think it must still be open,I tried to get on their website but it was down.

I then went on to Malt whisky shops and the second shop down was a good choice.

They had every malt distilled in Springbank, the dearest was £456,but the prices varied from around £30-to £80.

There was one I’m really interested in called Springbank18yr old second edition.second because the first was sold out,and on the website the second edition is also sold out.

I hope the pub has enough in the bottle for BT an I to have a nip each,I’m taking pen & paper for marking, then compare notes, the ones I fancy will come in at around£50 per bottle.

By the way that malt I’m interested won best malt at the end of last year. That could be the reason it’s out twice.

Zambrotta’s ancient and Chivu is injury prone, and plays wearing a protective cap – like the one Petr Cech does.

    Afternoon all…

I will be in Killiney near Dublin this weekend for a wedding. Does anyone know of a decent pub there to watch this Saturday’s game?

Killiney is the posh South side of town and don’t know of any soccer boozers in the area, but then again I live on the North side. The lads in the Dun Laoghaire CSC have their own clubhouse and its a cracking place to watch a game. Its just down the road from Killiney a bit. You’ll get their contact details on the AICSC website.

  18. Yesterday’s back page of the evening times: Celtic win only their third game in how many Euro away games…Ally McCoist continues to IMPRESS as Rangers manager!

BTW there will be nothing posh about Kiliney on Friday night once this wedding gets in full swing!

Cheers for that mate. I’ll keep an eye out for some nice Springbank then.
