SUTTON IBROX ‘BAN’ CONTINUES

FORMER Celtic star Chris Sutton will be forced to broadcast from a deserted Parkhead tomorrow night as BT Sport cover the Glasgow clubs’ Europa League group games.

The Hoops will kick off at 5.45pm in Germany in their section match against Bayer Leverkusen while Giovanni van Bronckhorst will make his debut in the Ibrox dug-out for the visit of Sparta Prague which starts at 8pm.

Media pundit Sutton has again been denied access to the Govan club’s ground, according to report in the Scottish Sun.

In September, the ex-Celtic striker and the club’s former manager Neil Lennon were turned away before the Group A encounter against French cracks Lyon at Ibrox.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had played earlier in the evening in their Group G game against Real Betis in Seville.

In previous circumstances, the satellite broadcaster’s usual set-up involved covering the early kick-off from the venue of the later game. However, they had to hastily change plans when the Ibrox club’s hierarchy denied Press accreditation requests for Sutton and Lennon. They switched coverage to their London studio.

They face a repeat tomorrow night with the one-time England international forward providing his opinions from the empty stadium in the east end of Glasgow.

A BT Sports spokesperson said: “We would have preferred to have kept our presentation team together at Ibrox, but, unfortunately, this has not been made possible.”

The games will be shown back to back on BT Sports 3.
