Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result. None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.
The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise. Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania. Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.
Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty. There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe. Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia. If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

Anyone but Lech Poznan for me
HJK maybe a preferable draw at this stage?

….PFayr supports WeeOscar @ 08:14
Score first on Wednesday they’re screwed
We are a well financed seeded European team …anything but a victory in Iceland is a disgrace ..surely our expectations haven’t been managed to such an extent that we are concerned about this tie .. FFS
With respect I don’t believe its a matter of managing expectations, its more a matter of recognising the reality that we’re having to play qualifiers in mid-July.

Another “what now passes for summer in Scotland” day down here. Enough said.
Must say, Aberdeen have to be congratulated on their latest result. Brilliant. I take it ICT’s agricultural players weren’t allowed to act as is their wont in the SPFL.

I hadn’t thought of that,but it explains a lot! Thanks,bud.
Smashing stuff,though. If bittersweet.
An impressive result for Aberdeen, and a few co-efficient points too.

Glasgow-born Halliday got his professional career underway at Livingston before moving on to Middlesbrough in 2010.
He was loaned out to Walsall, Blackpool and Bradford during his time at the Riverside and moved to Bradford in January.

We had better make sure we make the most of this CL venture, because the Times are quoting some unheard of from Burnley, that Warbs will have the Huns back in the CL inside 3 years.Yep,that old chestnut again.
You only have to look at the “Megastars” already signed,to believe this.
I note that every muppet they wheel out to talk this guff, always mentions”If Warbs gets the backing of the board”.
Just how IS that “Backing”coming along.?.
A question our intrepid hacks will die before they ask.

Morning all.
Just been over reading clumps’s Christmas special, great stuff, as usual.
Scrolling down, there’s a promo photo of some of sevco’s finest, resplendent in the new third (euro?) Kit.
Not only did I not recognise a single one of their “stars” but more interestingly, the stadium they are posing in certainly ain’t the one in the Govan area. Mmmmm, maybe the mash has a tighter stranglehold than we realise. Or maybe just because their own stadium looks s#*te.
Anyway, off to the warmer climes of Sorrento later for some decent pizza. Still be lurking though.
Where there’s wifi there’s CQN.

Churnalism.
” Football Correspondent ” on the radio telling me that Rube have sold Arturo Vidal to Bayern Munich .
Last week , the same ” Football Correspondent ” told me that Rube had sold Arturo Vidal to Real Madrid .
Two weeks ago , the same ” Football Correspondent ” told me that Rube would definitely be selling Arturo Vidal to Manchester United .
Nice work if you can get it !
SOUTHSIDE
D’accord. I thought it was his best yet.
Didnt see our game and have tried to glean what i could about it from the varied opinions on here!
Its strange how people can see things so differently.
So should we attempt to ‘park the bus’ not only to secure a place in the next qualifying round, but as a training exercise for future ties when defending better as a team will be required?
From what i have gathered we should go over there and beat them again so those tactics are probably not needed and might actually just invite trouble on to us but when the time comes to dig deep…..will we have the discipline, tactical nous, workrate, mental toughness and players to be able to do that?
Personally i think Ronny has just one way of playing and that is it.
Heres hoping he can get them doing what he wants and as well as he hopes for.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Yeah play pool a lot 8ball New rules. Played In the league for years know. I’m nothing special compared to some in my league but can hold my own. Played a few competition at Styx and would play in your tournament if it happened. Could bring a few tims through to boost the numbers.

Good result for Aberdeen last night, if they keep progressing their European pedigree could see them return as a competitive European Club, we need this.
Often said Scotland should be capable of producing 2 or 3 Clubs able to compete in pre-Christmas Europe. The extra experience, money, excitement and of course co-efficient points all moves the Scottish game forward.
Looking forward to seeing qualifiers as part of our pre-season ramp up rather than challenges or better still, a thing of the past as automatic qualification again becomes the norm.
In the meantime a couple tricky Euro ties await, think ICT may surprise.
Hail Hail

Know an Albanian guy here . Comes from Korce . Supports Skenderbeu . Moans a lot re how crap they are . Apparently they are named after Skanderberg ——a 15th Century Christian hero in that Christians v Muslims thing .

Interesting then that Skenderbeu are playing Crusaders ???
Aye, whatever happened to WillieMiller’sBushyTache? Seemed like a good guy. Nice to see his team achieve such a great away result.
Well done Aberdeen. Love to hate the sheep, but Aberdeen on the up is great news for SPL and euro co-efficient. Further backs up Paul’s call for a smaller top league, concentrating resources towards making these clubs more competitive outside Scotland.
Eg top 8 league playing each other 4 times a season giving 28 games. Allowing a winter break and any teams in Europe more recovery time. League cup could be revamped to a group format with seedings based on league position, playoffs for lower tier teams to qualify. 4 groups of 4? Cup open to all clubs.
Minimum requirements for entry to top league ie finances, pitch quality etc.
Make for a more attractive product to sell to tv etc. More revenue.
Just my tuppence worth. I’m sure others will disagree or enhance what i’m suggesting.
I know we all enjoy a little giggle at Sevco signing another free agent
But this is what they should have been doing in their first season. Why did they need Shiels, Templeton or McCulloch to beat some joiners and postmen.
The only reason why is because ra peepul wouldnae accept it back then

Maybe WMBT can be tempted back on. I believe some of our ‘Northern Lights’ know him.
Like ED URSUS,he was always welcome here.
Same goes now,of course, for BILLYBEAR and SHROPSHIREJAMBO. Alternative, witty and informed views which might not match our own.
And pleasant with it!
Hello again all you young rebels.
Spent an hour last night doing a blog and it came up
correction database error and never came back again, now
to an auld computer diddy like me who thinks a megabyte
is what my wee princess dishes out to me when she is really
angry is quite traumatic, so here we go again.
As soon as i opened up the laptop last night on Celtic t.v and
saw that fantastic crowd and all those new hoop tops in the
evening sunshine my heart flipped and i wished so much to
be there.
ExCelt. captain Mick McManus doing the commentary and
just like the way he played was honest and forthright in his
assessments also very humbling when talking about his best
friend John Kennedy and how when big John phoned him and
how shocked everybody was when tearfully he had
said his career was over after that horror injury, but he was
convinced J.K was destined to be a great manager because
of his determination and knowledge of the game.
As for the game i enjoyed it, could have been a cricket score
but some rustiness and another couple of games i think we’ll
be fine.
Taking the grandson to see Real Madrid v AS Roma tomorrow
night at the MCG Melbourne, 80,000 sellout crowd and the wee
mhan has got all his Celtic gear laid out ready over the couch.
I said.
” Wee mhan you know it’s Real Madrid were going to see and
not the Celtic ”
” A no Papa but got tae show the cullers and anyway a jist
want tae se Ronaldo ”
Fair enough.
” Papa dae ye think Ronaldo wid huv played fur the Lisbon Lions?
” Only if they were all injured and if they were all fit he would have
skelfs in his erchie sitting on the bench ”
but then i’m a wee bit biased.
what do you all think?
