Delighted for Aberdeen, winning away from home in Croatia is no mean feat for a Scottish club, but a 0-3 result, anywhere, is a special result. None of the other 32 away teams could manage so much as a two goal win.
The Inverness defeat on their maiden European performance was pity, if not a surprise. Winning your home game is regarded as the Cardinal Rule in Europe, but they have a puncher’s chance next week in Romania. Score the opening goal and it’s anyone’s game.
Today’s draw for the Champions League 3rd round qualifier has the potential to get a bit tasty. There are plenty of potential opponents from northern Europe with trips to Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark all possible, while Celtic are the only seed from northern Europe. Hopefully Uefa, in their keenness for geographical neighbourliness, don’t feel the need to send us to Israel, Poland or Serbia. If we take care of Stjarnan, of course.

embramike .
That thought entered my mind when I watched the highlights of them beating Crusaders 4-1 . … . Biggest problem with drawing them would be the heat / humidity in Albania.
MELBOURNEMICK
I’ve thought about it. Even wi seven substitutes like now,he’d have been lucky to squeeze past Joe McBride and Yogi for places up front,or Charlie Gallagher for instance.
And I’m not kidding either!
Btw,there’s plenty of pix of Ronaldo in a rather dashing green and white hooped outfit when he first started.
Mick, yer a legend wi yer tales of yer wee lad. Hail Hail.

May I be the umpteenth person to ask how many games Virgil is banned for? Is he back for next week’s game in Iceland?
Virgil is fine to play
With cricket commitments to fulfil, I watched Wednesday’s match in a well known good ol’ Celtic friendly pub in Edinburgh city-centre and felt frustrated by our attempted dinks and placers on the four or five occasions Celts were clear through on the goalkeeper.
How I wished one would answer my question of the evening, how hard can you make the ball smack the net? (SJ is excused once).
Same form will see us untroubled in Iceland.
phew
Cheers Patrick
3rd Q round CL tie
Celtic v Qarabağ FK (AZE)/FK Rudar Pljevlja (MNE)
Dates: first leg 28/29 Jul : 2nd leg 4/5 Aug
Signing deadline: Thursday 23rd Jul @ 11pm
Azerbaijan then?
Looks a nice place on the adverts at least
Actually just found out that the first leg was 0-0 with Qarabag at home – up in the air…
GUYFAWKESFOREVERAHERO
True, but the goal-scoring machine that was Jimmy Greaves rarely hit the back of the net.
He was mainly content to put it over the line.
Azerbaijan!!!!!
Montenegro might be better,IMO.
Either way,we could have had worse.
A fair howwwwf for either game , but deal with next week 1st.
Montenegro!!!
FK Rudar Pljevlja at home to Qarabağ FK (AZE) in 2nd leg with score at 0-0
If we win in Iceland, are we playing first leg at home again?

Where was that – IB or Malones?
I had assumed it wouldn;t be on in the puib so had to make do with a dodgy sausage

As I understood the draw, yes.
PCS,
Yes, we were first out in the draw.

Yes – first team drawn is at home. Higher coefficient was only used for a few years a while back
Best draw we could have had.Rudar in with a great chance.Their record in Europe,is a tad above dire..Azerbaijan,I would rather miss
Bit of a journey but very relieved not Poznan – we should be fine for this round

That’s not how you spell pube…
FK Qarabağ have a striker called Reynaldo dos Santos Silva. How good does he sound!
Wait, why wasn’t he scouted?!
BMCUW
Delighted you mentioned Charlie Gallagher, what a sublime player
and with todays refereeing laws though not applied too much in
Sotland he would have been worth many millions but as you know
he would have played for Celtic for pennies.
As regards the wee mhan, for someone who has never been to
Celtic park he is fervent and i’m dying to see his reaction to his
first visit home hopefully next year.

Hopefully Rudar.Dont think the Azerbaijanis travel too well.Really delighted with this draw.We avoided all the,on paper, harder ties.
EL MADRIGAL
Shocking stuff, mate. A name like that could be worth millions at 50p a letter.
Without knowing anything about the teams, Montenegro would be a more suitable destination.
Er Qarabag knocked out Salzburg at this stage last year
And drew with inter in El – robbed of victory in last min dodgy offside goal they would have qualified
If they get though they are no mugs

LOL! Using my Allo Allo accent to practice in case we get a French side in the Group Stages… :-)))
Professional job required for Wednesday. I expect us to win.
Thanks for that, folks. It means I can make plans to be there (always presuming we go through).
Great to see my favourite player, the one and only Charlie Gallagher, being talked about. As was said yesterday, Charlie was a better passer of the ball than even Bobby Murdoch but, of course, Bobby is the finest all round player I have seen in the Hoops. Charlie couls strike a ball too.
First get through against Stjarnen but if the Montenegrin team got 0-0 away then they are probably a technically adept team.
They are one of the lowest ranked teams should they progress.
A big win at home and the second leg will be a lot easier given the travelling and the heat in these countries at this time of year.
