SWEET 16 FOR CELTIC EURO HERO

TONY WATT, who scored one of the most memorable of Celtic’s European goals, has signed a two-year deal with Partick Thistle.

Remarkably, the Firhill outfit, now managed by former Hoops defender Mark Wilson, are the striker’s EIGHTH Scottish club – and his SIXTEENTH side in total.

In order, the home teams are: Airdrie, Celtic, Hearts (loan), St Johnstone, Motherwell, Dundee United, St Mirren, Motherwell (loan) and now Thistle.

Away from Scotland, Watt has had quick fire spells in Belgium at Lierse SK, Standard Liege and OH Leuven, in Bulgaria with CSKA Sofia while he also had stints across the border at Blackburn Rovers, Charlton and Cardiff City.

The nomadic 31-year-old frontman first exploded into the headlines when he fired in the Champions League winner against Barcelona in an unforgettable evening at Parkhead on November 7 2012.

However, he failed to impress Neil Lennon’s successor Ronny Deila who allowed him to move on a temporary deal to Lierse in 2013 and he moved out permanently to Standard Liege a year later.

Jags gaffer Wilson said in a club statement: “To secure a player like Tony is a real coup for the club. I played with him briefly when he was a youngster at Celtic and he’s gone on to have a distinguished career since then.

“He arrives here as a very experienced player who had an excellent season the last time he was playing at this level and we want to give him the platform to perform like that again.”
