Sweeten the medicine, Celtic

991

There is an unusually sombre tempo head of tomorrow’s Champions League last 16 tie, a consequences of the 0-3 reversal at home three weeks ago and the general sentiment around Scottish football this week, but this match is an excellent test for both manager and playing squad.

We are a Champions League team again with aspirations to achieve at this level next season.  Having finally overcome the hoodoo of never having won away from home in the competition, we must use occasions like tomorrow to continue our growth in the competition.

We defended our 18-yard line in the Camp Nou and almost got away with a point.  The plan was wrong in Lisbon, where a talented Benfica controlled midfield and recorded a narrow win, but the win against Spartak in Moscow was deserved.

Celtic might not be able to qualify for the quarter finals but they can win the match tomorrow; this is an achievable objective which would sweeten the inevitable medicine.

  1. Just to remind the stupid zombies who actually put all that money into their club.

    ‘Investor’

An individual who commits money to investment products with the expectation of financial return. Generally, the primary concern of an investor is to minimize risk while maximizing return, as opposed to a speculator, who is willing to accept a higher level of risk in the hopes of collecting higher-than-average profits.

  9. Reiperman, SoT,

    Thanks for the responses.

I really have nothing more to add, other than I feel that direct action, rather than lobbying, at this stage, would deliver a stronger message to the SFA and clubs.

    SoT,

nothing accusing about my banner statement.

UEFA followed the rules re Sion, now let them ensure that their rules are followed by the SFA.

The mood amongst supporters of other clubs on TSFM, seems to be edging towards abandining the game.

They do not wish to be made fools of and robbed any longer.

Will soon be time for Celtic supporters to abandon the seige, victim mentallity and act in a positive manner.

Believe me, if people like myself feel this way, then we have a major problem for the club.

  18. Sudan have lost an appeal against Fifa’s decision to overturn their 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Zambia in June and award a 3-0 win to their opponents.

The ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) means Zambia go top of Group D in the second round of the African qualifiers for Brazil 2014.

Fifa had found Sudan guilty of fielding an ineligible player in the match.

Saif Ali was included in the team despite being suspended.

He scored the second goal despite having been sent off in their previous competitive game.

  21. stretching credibility here but stay with me…

Why is that an important question?

lets look at Celtic or in fact any other SPL club… Everyone, bar 500 mill global fans, accept that a club and its company are one and the same so when Celtic PLC post accounts they are doing so on behalf of the club; one set of income against one set of expenditure = profit or loss…. Accountancy for dummies!

These accounts are assessed by the financial markets for probity and the SPL/SFA for licensing purposes… With me?

So… whose accounts were published yesterday?

The MSM, Rangers supporters, the SFA and the SPL defend, staunchly, that club and company are separate entities hence liquidation of oldco and continuation of club… Still with me?

The “Whose accounts were published yesterday” becomes a VERY important question now.

if it were the holding company when does the football club release accounts to the SFA and SFL? And what figures will IT be using to produce accounts?

Moreover should the holding company only show accounts pertaining to the OPERATING of the football club i.e. Ticket income, merchandising, hospitality, tv, sponsorship and company expenses, matchday expenses. Whereas the CLUB holds all the costs borne from player registration i.e. Wages, bonuses etc and very little in the way of income (because ALL the income has been claimed by the COMPANY)

Lastly, the rules tell us that players MUST derive ALL income from the CLUB and NOT from ANY OTHER PARTY…

We are constantly told that RIFC are the COMPANY and The Rangers are the club and both are separate and distinct… If that’s the case… Are the players not being paid by a THIRD PARTY?

Portsmouth tried to argue it was their holding company that was being liquidated not them so points deductions should not apply… We know the FAs response to that…

… and then there was the curious case if Carlos Teves? And we all know what happened there!

  22. StumptownBhoy-(ex-SanDiegoBhoy)For_wee_Oscar on

A few points to reflect upon and cheer Planet_Tim up,

1- Lord Nimmo found oldco Rangers guilty, but on advice from, ahem, “impartial expertise” was advised not to strip any titles. This was to avoid the decimation of Hampden by fat, tattooed hordes exhibiting curious-like zombie behavior.

2- The financials just published reveal that Sevco5088 is slowly slipping into another crisis and at current levels of expenditure will cease to exist by the end of the year, perhaps earlier.

3- The chairman of Sevco5088 makes Whytey seem like the tooth fairy by comparison. His rabble rousing on certain fronts is merely a smokescreen, so that he may trouser investors cash as he plans an escape to a secluded village in the Yorkshire Dales and believe me it will NEED to be secluded. Ole Whytey was smart enough to hole up in Monaco.

4- By comparison Celtic are in the hands of the shrewdest financial minds around. As football feels the ever present pressures of increased globalism Celtic is poised to both participate and prosper in any proposed regional leagues. And it will happen, perhaps sooner than anyone anticipates.

5- Tomorrow will be an occasion to savour. We are participating in the elite 16 of Europe and the worlds most regarded competition. This came about by young management team who exhibit the finest credentials expected of Celtic men. As Juventus are forced to open up more sections of their stadium to our fans, what else do you need to know about our support?

Miki67 you are in my prayers every night.

  23. s.o.t.

I duly defer to your superior knowledge of Italian football.

I dare to dream……what true Celtic fan wouldnae?

    However…

…..i think this is the finale of this year’s Euro adventure, and we can prepare for next year’s.

I think NFL has been quietly assembling a far superior (than this year’s squad…….mightily though they achieved, an’ highest praise to them) outfit and that next season will be prove to be an even slicker campaign.

  30. For me Celtics next move is critical. I would do what the SFA desperately dont want us to do, take it to the CAS. If the club dont want to do it the fans should. Get as many shareholders willing to participate and start a fund. Take this out of Scotland and you will get a different result. What we cant do is nothing, tired of being the victim.

  31. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Kano 1000 on

    Evening folks,

Celtic will do just fine tomorrow night. No silly mistakes like at Celtic Park– little to lose and technically a better team than we have taken to the home of one of Europe’s big teams thyan many in the past.

If we get an early goal we start to ask questions, and if we build on that and could possibly get another– then we are asking questions of ourselves as much as them.

Silence the crowd– get them riled– and hey who knows.

As long as we give a good performance I will be happy– but I can’t help it– I am a dreamer when it comes to folk in Green and White– and sometimes dreams come true.
