Tactically aware athlete needed

2217

I don’t know anything about Stefan Johansen, who is one of several central midfield players Celtic are tracking, but I’m pleased we’re scouting for this area.  There’s no question we are missing a penalty box predator but you could make a case that the sense of calm and control exerted by Victor Wanyama in the middle of the park is a more telling absence.

Nir Biton has all the potential to get there eventually but it’s going to take him time.  He reminds me of Ki, who a couple of seasons ago was fifth choice central mid for Celtic, behind Brown, Wanyama, Ledley and Kayal.  This season I’ve watched him collect and distribute, close space and bring shape to a struggling Sunderland team.

I’ve also watched a bit of Barry Robson since his return to Aberdeen.  Despite his advancing years he remains one of the most intelligent footballers in the game.  His arrival in the Celtic midfield six years ago changed Celtic into a winning team.    You don’t need Pele for this role, just a tactically aware athlete.

How many accountants does it take to tell you that losing circa £1m per month is not a good idea?  Lots, apparently.

I too was at the Albion Rovers game today. Usually 350 today 718. In fairness I watch them hoping my bhoy will get on the pitch as he is currently back up keeper.

I received my usual complimentary ticket but donated £10 at the gate.

The 1-0 win reminded me of some of the recent Celtic 1-0 wins, painful to watch.

Looking forward to big Amido starring tomorrow.

  12. I can only see one way out for the south side city omni shambles of a club

and that is administration by April.

If they can get enough points ahead in the league by April

they will gladly take the hit and still be promoted.

There is no way that they will take the chance of going

into administration during the next season.

The poor guy is suffering a terrible illness and the Bears have got him on the park doing a half time draw in front of 40000 people. He looks dreadful as you would expect and his face is contorted with pain most of the time.

Is this distasteful watching the guy suffer in public ?….I just don’t know what to think here.

  15. Stringer Bell @ 21:13…

I was at a League Cup Quarter final (first leg) tie at Cliftonhill in the 76/77 season. Celtic won 1-0 with Tommy Callaghan scoring the only goal.

Kenny didn’t feature in that tie but did play in the second leg at Celtic Park when we won 5-0.

I spent a lot of time watching the Rovers in the early 70s, usually when Celtic were away from home.

We used to sneak in most of the time by nipping in behind the advertising board outside the ground and through a broken fence behind it.

I feel a bit guilty about it now, but we did pay to get in on the rare occasions we had money. There were often more people standing on the hill looking in that there were inside the ground.

    Good times though.

My prediction is Sevco will at best receive minimal fees for anyone shipped out this month. They just want rid of their bigger earners (on the playing staff that is) and will happily negotiate pay-offs to anyone willing to leave.

The idea that any clubs will pay more than minimal fees for guys playing in the Scottish third-tier is laughable.

Should be some more belly laughs coming up real soon.

  24. The newest club in the SPFL spent millions

on winning the lowest league in Scottish football.

    Their manager was paid £850,000..

Did no one at the SPFL find this a wee bit suspicious.

Bearing in mind what happened to Gretna.

This club have continued to spend ridiculous amounts of money,

ie £1 million a month, in the third tier of Scottish football

where the rest of the players are part time.

Please tell me there is someone involved in running

He was possibly a better player than I gave him credit for initially, after being roasted by Bobby Petta…who wasn’t the best but had one of his rare decent performances that day.

The fact that Ricksen got capped in a very good Dutch team tells us he must have had something.

He was an erse of a man though who played to the Hun galleries but I reckon he would have been a mad Tim if he played for Celtic…..he needed to be loved by whoever he played for.Never the sharpest tool in the box and it showed.

You’re right it is a shame for him as It is one horrible disease.

Still confused if today was undignified Hun voyeurism or genuine concern for a former player.
