Tactically aware athlete needed

2217

I don’t know anything about Stefan Johansen, who is one of several central midfield players Celtic are tracking, but I’m pleased we’re scouting for this area.  There’s no question we are missing a penalty box predator but you could make a case that the sense of calm and control exerted by Victor Wanyama in the middle of the park is a more telling absence.

Nir Biton has all the potential to get there eventually but it’s going to take him time.  He reminds me of Ki, who a couple of seasons ago was fifth choice central mid for Celtic, behind Brown, Wanyama, Ledley and Kayal.  This season I’ve watched him collect and distribute, close space and bring shape to a struggling Sunderland team.

I’ve also watched a bit of Barry Robson since his return to Aberdeen.  Despite his advancing years he remains one of the most intelligent footballers in the game.  His arrival in the Celtic midfield six years ago changed Celtic into a winning team.    You don’t need Pele for this role, just a tactically aware athlete.

How many accountants does it take to tell you that losing circa £1m per month is not a good idea?  Lots, apparently.

I think the Galatasary fans were so loud during the game and after was because they were playing Celtic – the team who have the best atmosphere in Europe when they play home CL games. The Galatasary fans wanted to show us their stuff – that they are a force to be reckoned with. They did very well and they are a force to be reckoned with.

Good job in the end up! I like stats, just hard to find predictable leagues, I suppose that’s healthier for football though and anti-corruption! I know you’re supposed to go for singles to beat the bookies but I always think there is room for being right more than once. My seven fold yesterday I was looking for btts and team to win(I put them in lucky31s) and the team I picked that the opposition wouldn’t score I listed for an acca. The straight seven fold that won yesterday for me all team won to nil. I said to a pal it was safe. It was very safe, all the winning teams like to score and the other failed in that game generally. I saw a guy won 51 grand on a “win to nil” yesterday. If I had super heinz’d mine in that market with the acca as well I would of won six figures because that’s what the stats actually told me-team would win opposition wouldn’t score. Surprisingly I’m fine about this but it probably won’t happen for a while. Profit is profit though;-)

  7. Didn’t get to see the game as it was on in the middle of the night in Oz. Looking forward to getting home and watching it on Celtic T.V.

Delighted to hear that Biton and Henderson played so well. Biton seems to be coming along nicely and hopefully he kicks on now for the second half of the season. I’ve said it a few times on here but I think we should sell Kayal asap. On the back of his CL goal this season we should be able to get 2-3m for him. That would leave us with the following central midfielders for the rest of the season Brown, Ledley/Johansen, Henderson, Mulgrew and Biton.

Also, the 4-2-3-1 formation used on this trip should be the formation we use moving forward. The vast majority of big teams in Europe play this system. Two defensive midfielders (Ledley, Brown, Biton, Henderson, Mulgrew), two wide players with the ability to get goals (Boerrighter, Forrest, Sammi), a number 10 (Commons, Pukki, Stokes) and a striker (Balde + a new striker who can play this system). In fairness I think Lenny has tried to implement this system but has been hamstrung by the lack of a quality striker to lead the line.

If I put a bet on and break even, I am delighted, if I make 10% I am over the moon, had enough of giving my weans inheritance to the bookie, that’s why I tend to stick to singles.

I still can’t resist a few accas though, small money for big returns is the bookies fav, but every now and then, it comes home.

    I won a few bob te other week with a mix of wins and btts and over 2.5 goals, paid for Christmas, but over the season so far, I am not doing as well as I have done in previous seasons, but still a long ways to go >}

  11. I mentioned last week that something inside me tells me Boerritger has something to offer. Problem is, it’s borne out of gut feel more than anything. This afternoon, after watching him, I’m still of the same opinion. Today I felt that he wanted to be wearing that famous shirt. He offered aggression and passion, which were probably 2 of the qualities I felt he lacked prior to today.

I’m sticking by Derk for a bit longer yet. Whilst admittedly I’m not fully convinced just yet, I’m not unconvinced either. I think he can prove my judgement correct. ( then again I was convinced Cardiff would win yesterday:-)

Aye, the CQN acca was unlucky yesterday, I do it every week just for an interest, was counting the money, 3-1 up against 10 men, dearie me, tis why there are betting shops and a lot of skint punters.

Today was one of those days where it was all good for me. Liverpool minus a goal, city minus a goal, and a 14/1 shot ridden by Graham Lee at Wolves. So, the enemy has at least given me a right few quid of my money back at least temporarily.

Arsenal minus a goal tomorrow will cap of a good weekend.

twists n turns, I have the same feeling about Derk, he is an excellent crosser of the ball. He has been carrying an injury and it does take time to settle in a new Club and a new League. Not long ago there were plenty of experts here saying that Lenny had bought 4 duds and only Virgil cut the mustard. Now Biton has an army of admirers and Pukki and Balde are being looked at in a more favourable light, its far too early to write Derk off.

  18. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Just before I check out for the night, I’d like to congratulate Lukasz Zaluska for a fantastic performance in goal today. He gave the young defenders confidence. Biton was immense but got caught in possession in dangerous areas. James Forrest didn’t miss the penalty. He took it well but their keeper made an excellent save. Liam Henderson was pure gallus as was Amiso Balde. Darnell Fisher, playing out of position at left back just gets better and better. All in all the team played very well in this tournament and enhanced the reputation of the club. I don’t think we have played against Turkish opponents before and now we have. These two games will serve all of the players well in the future.

Never got to see the game overnight, already at work on Monday morning but by all accounts a great display from the young Celtic team, give the Bhoys some more game time.

Spare a thought for the folks out here in Perth who lost their homes on Sunday to bushfires, horrendous temperatures around Oz at the moment.

Was just checking the ages of our team, am I right in saying Henderson is only 17, I knew he was just a lad but didn’t think he was that young. What a prospect.

Those big betting firms are a disgrace, they cannot call themselves bookmakers, they are more like amusement arcades, online and in their shops.

Nobody can beat them, unless you stroke them like Barney Curly did…either that or just hope that you get lucky, low stakes, high return ie a fiver 20 timer.

It’s called the gaming industry these days, nothing to do with bookmaking…FOBT s and virtuals.Every sport they lay odds, they fix the odds in their own favour that it is virtually impossible to win in the long run.

They are trying to do away with showing the racing in their shops now, dogs should be safe because they run most of them…BAGS and BEGS,ask yourself what this means?

It is unwise to predict the future anyway.

I would really love to know the stake money that is being speculated by some of the experts on here.

And I know that for a fact that you are not making a decent profit online on a consistent basis, how do I know This? Because if you were that successful, they would bar you, simple as that, they operate like this.

    I despise them,really I do.

    Happy punting. :)

SFTB – apologies for the delay in getting back to you, but I was immersed in the hugely enjoyable Sherlock on Beeb1.

As ever, I have no issues with your logic and the arguments you subsequently put forward, but your first response was fairly dismissive – “Maybe we need a throw-in coach and a different coach for right and left backs.”

In my initial post, I merely asked why shouldn’t we employ a Forwards coach? It’s a fairly straightforward question and it’s just a pity that you felt it merited such a derogatory response.

Your last statement to me was “And I do so without any comment on your personal or posting characteristics.”, but you had previously written “You were disagreed with. You’ll get over it.”. Surely you can see my point about condescencion?

Like PF, I have no wish to enter into any disagreement on this matter, but considering our inability to score goals in the CL group stages I feel it is worth raising the subject of a specialist coach for our attacking players. In the modern game, is there no merit in exploring this as an option?

We obviously cannot afford the finished article, i.e. a CL proven striker, so what is the best way of creating one?

Within the management team we have tremendous experience in the areas of defence and defensive midfield. Is it a co-incidence that the main complaints from fans about Lenny’s team are the lack of penetration from midfield and the lack of goals from our strikers. We are hugely dependent on Kris Commons for both, but we need more options.
